- Sitali71 contributionsSpendy for such a small place. This place is good for a 30 minute visit, not much more. It was fun to see all the beautiful butterflies, and if you sit down they often will light on you. Wear bright colors they say. They have zebra finches here too, that are delightful. A fun visit for young children, especially girls. It's a relatively small place however, and much more than 30 minutes, one can get bored. They have a smallish pond with goldfish in it, and the butterflies seem to congregate around this portion. Wish it was much, much bigger. Not really worth the price...as it was spendy for such a short amount of time there. The butterflies are exquisite though.Visited February 2020Written February 21, 2020
- ChrissySprack4 contributionsBest birthday ever!We celebrated my daughter’s 5th birthday there today. I can not adequately express my gratitude. With covid and all, planning a “party” was quite challenging. But this was the perfect day. We were able to arrive early to set up and decorate their tent space. Then had the place to ourselves for an hour. We brought a simple picnic lunch. Plenty of tables so everyone was able to space themselves and eat safely. The bathrooms were clean and warm even on this cold rainy day. Everyone wore masks and there was sanitizer readily available. There isn’t much to touch in the atrium anyways so it was really quite perfect for keeping contact minimal. Anna welcomed us warmly upon arrival and Jackie was a great host once we got inside. She kindly and enthusiastically told us all about the facility with all it’s plants, birds and of course, butterflies! You would not believe how affordable it was. They charge per person at a discounted group rate and children under 3 were admitted for free. So please if you want to have a party for your child but covid concerns are holding you back I highly suggest contacting them!Visited April 2021Traveled with familyWritten April 25, 2021
- Barbara WillwerthAmesbury, Massachusetts7 contributionsGrandparentsMy husband and I took our granddaughters ages 5 and 7. As soon as we walked into the room with the butterflies one got on the 5 year olds sneaker, then walked up her pant leg! She was very patient and my husband told the attendant who came over to release the butterfly. We all enjoyed looking at the other butterflies and a few birds. The 7 year old wished one would land on her, then just before we were leaving , as we sat on a bench, one did!Visited February 2020Traveled with familyWritten March 15, 2020

I’ve wanted to go here forever! So maybe I amped up my expectations to high. Much smaller than pics/ videos give the impression. Narrow paths, only saw about 6 different species. There seemed to be a lot of butterflies when we first went in, but then they dissipated after about 30 minutes and we couldn’t find any in some areas, so we left. There were about 20 other kids there at the same time, all different ages, plus about 20 adults of all different ages/walking abilities. Maybe there were too many people. It kind of felt like the butterflies were hiding after the first 30 minutes. We were there for 45 minutes max, 2 and 5 yo. Kept the 2 yo in a stroller which was best for everyone. The place looks tired and in need of updating. The concept is amazing, appreciate they are self-sustaining, wish they could get some outside financial support to upgrade. Staff have to be extremely patient— there were a couple of kids chasing the butterflies and trying to catch them which is not permitted and was very distracting. We went at 10am when they open, on a weekday in mid August.

The building that the butterflies are located is small and a little uncomfortable when crowded. There are walkways which wind through the area. We saw massive amount of butterflies of all shapes and colors. There also were a few small birds mostly around the bushes/flowers. There are a few benches where we sat and just observed the butterflies. Some landed on people which was enjoyable. There is soothing music playing which added to the peacefulness of the area. We spent at least an hour inside the butterfly area. The temperature inside the area is kept pretty warm. There is an attached building which has displays and gift shop. Admission is reasonable. Senior, military, youth discounts are available.
We highly recommend The Butterfly Place if you want to unwind and enjoy peace for awhile.

Great little place. Very beautiful and majestic. Got to see different species and yes they do land on you. Watch your step, they like to land on the path. Friendly staff. We went during the pandemic so they limited tbe amount of people. This was better. I feel if they allow more guests than they did now, it would br cramped.

We love the Butterfly Place in Westford. 3 kids and 3 adults enjoyed peaceful gardens and lots of moths and butterflies! Such a great experience. Wear bright colors because it’s good luck for you if one lands on you

Always worth the trip. This was the third trip for our oldest granddaughter and the first for our second. Lots of busy butterflies in full color and active! This place is not huge but is a nice place to visit. It is a little beat up and tired but still worth it. Great to support local establishments and science exploration. Maybe some wealthy person will gift it a lift, it is a worthy cause. They have tables… we bring a picnic lunch and then go back in one more time to maximize our visit. The staff are friendly and helpful. And they have a nice little gift shop, we found patriotic butterfly wings, yeah!
Don’t miss out, put this on your list.

The Butterly Place is worth a visit. It's very educational (and fun), even though it is a bit crowded space wise and people wise. We took our grandsons (age 3) and they really liked finding all the different kinds of butterflies hidden everywhere. It was a good lesson for them (and a difficult one) not to touch the butterflies, but to enjoy them by just observing. Hope to go back again soon.

I took my two granddaughters to The Butterfly Place on March 26, 2007. They had an ok time, but it was nothing like we expected. We paid $21 admission for the three of us. The displays were shabby & uninteresting. The atrium smelled like a musty old basement. The windows were dirty on the outside and covered in algae & mold on the inside. It felt like a visit to a dirty fishbowl. There weren't too many butterflies, most of them were of only two varieties. It was fun to sit in the atrium and watch them flutter around us, though. All in all, it would be hard to recommend this place to anyone other than a photographer who wants to take pics of butterflies close up. It's a great idea, so hopefully they can make some improvements and keep it going.

I went with my daughter and 2&4 year old grandchildren, it was made clear there is no running or touching the butterflies. My grandsons could not have been more well behaved but as we were leaving, a butterfly landed on the back of my grandsons hand. He was thrilled but within seconds, an incredibly nasty employee was reprimanding him for touching the butterfly!! He was broken hearted having been exceptionally well behaved and obeying the rules!! What a waste of time/money and experience for my grandsons!!! DO NOT GO THERE!

Hi! Sylvia here from The Butterfly Place.
We ask customers to please never try to get the butterflies to come to them...If handled they may be harmed.A picture tells a thousand words.
Our staff talks to the adults.
If you were the one who screamed at two of my staff then yelled at me over the phone, you should be ashamed of yourself.

The owner and employees do not know how to handle guests. They should take classes on how to work with people. People skills are key when running a business. The whole point of The Butterfly Place it to be with the butterflies. A family should not be reprimanded by an employee when a 6 year old child is admiring a butterfly on her hand that someone placed there. The employee acted as if the child was squishing butterfly which I have witnessed in the past. Then lied to the owner and stated they already had warned this child already. I believe that was a cover my butt for treating a guest so poorly, as this family had only been there for 10 min. When the situation was brought to the owners attention that night in an email the owner was very rude in her response. A phone conversation took place the following morning and the owner obviously feels she does not need that family to operate her business. I will be sure to tell everyone I know if you are taking your kids or grandchildren you need to put them in a bubble so they do not touch any anything. Poor customer service at its best.

Have been going here for 4 years now and never been treated so poorly. To be told by the owner that my 6 year old should be put in a carriage to control her after another customer put a butterfly on her hand. My daughter was threatened by the employee that she will be kicked out if she does anything like that again. WHO in there right mind talks to a 6 year old like that and WHAT kind of owner doesn't apologize for what happened? We drive over an hour to get there and we will make sure that many of our friends and family know not to ever go there, so they not only lost one customer they have lost many!
