This is the tour you need to learn about the rich Black culture and history of Martha’s Vineyard! Mr. Larry Jones was an amazing tour guide. He doesn’t just know the history of African-Americans in Oak Bluffs from area to area. He had stories to tell us from HOUSE TO HOUSE. Our van included 3 groups total. Mr. Jones offered insightful explanations at every stop. It was a very relaxed and educational atmosphere. It was an honor and privilege to learn from him for 2 hours. The info he shared also led members of the group to visit the Gingerbread House museum, as well as other sites in town. My only wish is that we had gone on the African American Heritage Trail Tour earlier in our trip.

It was a very informative and fun tour. Led by Larry who is super knowledgeable, personable, and always able to answer questions.

He provided a thorough understanding of the full experience of the residents of Oak Bluff especially those of African descent.

It was a great tour. If you're on the fence, do yourself the favor of taking this tour.

The tour was wonderful!! It was very informative and the walk was nice and calm. Both of our guides were polite and never rushed through anything. We are looking forward to another tour. I recommended for everyone to take this tour. Also, the price of the tour is reasonable and worth the wealth of information you'll receive, as well as the experience you'll have.

We visited Oak Bluffs with friends and decided to take the MV African-American Heritage Trail Walking Tour. It was, indeed, the highlight of our visit. It was very informative and great to learn from Mr. Larry & Caroline about the rich African-American history on the island. We were aware it existed, but the level of detail provided was helpful and fascinating. The time went fast and the walk was not at all strenuous. Everyone in our group was impressed, and when we return, we plan to take one of their other tours. Highly recommend!

I have taken this tour before and I still enjoy it. As a travel agent, I always book this for my clients going to MV. Everyone comes away amazed with the knowledge gained about the history of African Americans on the Vineyard.

Thanks, Elaine, Ms. Carrie, and Chris for an amazing tour

Despite this uncertain time of COVID-19, we arranged a walking tour of the African American Heritage Trail. It was the primary reason we wanted to visit Oak Bluffs. We were fortunate to have a walking tour (safely done with our masks on & distancing) provided by the founder of the trail, Elaine Weintraub. Elaine's passion and dedication to the Heritage Trail is admirable. We learned so much about the African American history of the island. The experience was amazing, and it is a must see when coming to Martha's Vineyard. It far exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to coming back to complete the longer tour around the island.

This tour was a great time! We did the one-hour walking tour and Elaine was our guide. She and the intern, Diamond, took us through The Highlands neighborhood where we learned about the rich history of that area of MV.

The stories were great! Dr. Elaine is a passionate historian who has intimate and sometimes hilarious stories of the historic figures from not only Martha's Vineyard, but are nationally significant. What made the experience most memorable was the sincerity of the project.

I have talked to friends about the tour and recommended it to fellow travelers. When I return, I shall go on it again. Thank you, Elaine and Carrie, for your contribution to Black History!

I am just totally shocked and amazed at Martha 's Vineyard African American Heritage Trail. Who would have thought that an upscale and tourist town would offer or have such history in their wealthy town. There is a lot of history to be heard and learned. Ghee wiz was I in for a shock. Our tour guide Elaine was so knowledgeable and interesting with her presentation to me and my group. For years I thought MV was just for the rich and famous but after going on the tour of the town I am so relieved to know that Black Americans existed there as home and business owners. To learn there were very prominent black people living in MV just blew me away. Just think from the 1800+ years blacks had it all going on. If you want to learn some history tour the African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard, I invite you to take a tour of the town and you too will learn a lot. Taking that tour, you will not regret it.

We have experienced many African American tours and this was one of the best. If you are fortunate enough to get Elaine as your guide, your experience will be doubly enjoyable. She bought an incredible amount of personal history to the tour which was absolutely fascinating. The tour provides information that is not in the average history book. If you appreciate African American history, you will love this experience.

YAAAAASSSSS! I don't care about your background, this tour is a must! Larry was great. He was well-informed, professional and personable. He ensured our group had a great experience. Our tour was very in-depth and there were endless teachable moments. I highly recommend everyone experience the African American heritage trail. The significance and history of Martha's Vineyard is beyond what any school books have taught.
