Learn more about the fabulous island

What can I say? This is an absolute gem of a place.
I learned so much from Felix who appears to manage the facility.
I cannot praise him and this facility enough.
Anyone visiting must call in to take a look and learn so much more than visitors books can offer.

Heaps of presentation boards with information about history and life on Fetlar. The staff is very competent and friendly and may help with any question you may have.

Currently only open in the afternoon!
Jul 2018 • Couples
We had checked the opening hours online, and had planned the morning before we got the ferries back to Lerwick to take in the Interpretative Centre and the archival material there (some of my partner's family were from here).

We were disappointed to turn up at the front door to find a notice saying that due to essential roadworks the Centre was currently only open from 2pm.

We would have gone here the previous afternoon before if we'd known.

Fun and full of information
Jul 2018 • Couples
For the princely sum of £3.00, you gain entrance to a fascinating account of Fetlar life, history and geology, which will keep you occupied for some time

The volunteer running the place was friendly, helpful and very funny. There is also a cracking little shop if you need gifts for the folks back home or souvenirs for yourself

Great area for GEOLOGY
Jul 2017 • Friends
I will not detail the centre as it has been covered but somebody has made a huge effort with the Geological wall at Loch Funzie. This explains how the Oceanic rocks appear above the continental rock. which is quite unique. Carry on to the Bay of Funzie and study the Funzie Conglomerate- all distorted and pulled by all the Earth movements. At loch Funzie you can see the rare bird the phalarope and there is a field trip with the warden on a wedensday morning. People have seen otters where the ferry comes in. Definetly try and Google information before you go but if you visit the centre first at 11am you will learn all these things. O forgot . Tresta beach is an award beach and if you like looking at pebbles there are some amazing ones on the shore in front of the centre.

Excellent local information and displays
Jul 2017 • Solo
Lots of local knowledge and displays of old families and customs and stories.
The staff are very helpful if you let them know you have slink to the area. There is free wifi which is useful as the island does not have great cellular coverage for some networks.

Very interesting place and helpful staff

Well worth a visit. There's an information area with tea and coffee machine plus chocolate bars. There's also a museum for a small fee which is interesting and took us about 30 minutes to look around. The member of staff was very helpful and suggested some things for us to do during our visit.

Excellent small museum

While on Fetlar we made a stop at the Interpretive Centre to read about the islands inhabitants and see the various displays. Quite a small museum but the displays are well done and very informative, definitely worth the time and small cost.

Fascinating Museum

The Fetlar Interpretive Centre has high quality displays on a range of local subjects. The display about Sir William Watson Cheyne of Fetlar, assistant to Lord Lister who developed antiseptic surgery, co-ordinated by Jane Coutts is fascinating. A large detailed book has also been produced from the well researched information.
I enjoyed the range of videos available to watch especially about a Time Team dig on Fetlar. The Centre staffed by friendly, helpful locals has a small display of Fetlar craft for sale and the woolen and felted items are quirky and original.
The Fetlar Interpretive Centre is well worth a visit. Hot drinks are available.
