Excellent Theatre
Oct 2019 • Couples
We attended a show while on vacation and found a well-staged production with good acoustics and a polished performance which we thoroughly enjoyed. Even had live music. No negatives. Highly recommend seeing a show.

Great sound acoustics and always an interesting selection of plays and performances.

This August our selection was a live music performance with commentary on the early to modern Blues called "Low Down, Dirty Blues" as performed by a three person, African American troupe of talented actor/singer professionals, one woman and two men. The Playhouse staff and facilities are great too. We always feel welcome. It's fun to people -watch too.

Great summer fun

There is always something good playing at the MVP. Whether comedy or drama, sometimes only 3 characters, but they pull it off nicely. Have been going for years. MJ knows what she is doing!

Very intimate venue for a locally produced play
Jul 2017 • Friends
This is a wonderful place to come for a performance. It seats about 150 people or so. The seats are comfortable and everyone has a good view because of the riser approach. Acoustics are good but you are so close to the actors that it's not surprising. The stage is named for Patricia Neal, a famous actress who resided on the island. She supported the theater for many years.
People come to MV for many reasons but this playhouse is a very good reason to stay overnight. You'll have a chance to mingle with the locals and learn something about the play from the actors.

While planning for our trip I ran across a one night only improve comedy show. The theater holds 150 people, very charming and the talent was excellent. Loved the historic building and quaint setting

Best Night Out This Season!!
Aug 2016 • Couples
This ain't summer stock schlock! Saw 'Crumbs' and 'Red' this summer (VPH is year 'round) and was blown away by the magic of the theatre, electricity of stage direction and the energy of the performances! Great theatre in every sense of the word! Bravo for jobs well done! See you again ... and again!

An Island Treasure
Sep 2014 • Couples
The Playhouse is truly and island treasure. Hosting interesting plays in a newly-remodeled, cozy (150 seats) theater, the Playhouse is one of our favorite island venues. Last evening's performance of King Mackerel And The Blues Are Running, a musical celebration of the culture of the North Carolina barrier island coast was a classic Playhouse offering. We feel so lucky to have this wonderful venue.

Renovated playhouse is beautiful
Aug 2014 • Friends
i have long attended plays here in the summer time. But the building was always, shall we say, not very attractive. Now a wonderful renovation that closed the playhouse for a while has resulted in a great space upstairs (the theatre) and down (the lobby). elevator gives good accessibility to the upstairs. Now finally the quality of the building matches the quality of the plays and performances, which are consistently superb.
