A friend and I had lunch in Sturbridge and were looking for a place to walk after and admire the foliage. The waitstaff at the restaurant directed us to this location.

It is within 5 miles off the Mass Pike, there were numerous trails and what appeared to be a large field that could accommodate a sports match. There is a map in the parking lot which has all the trails named and their distance, so you know before starting.

We were there mid-afternoon on a weekday and the lot was almost filled up, it can only accommodate about 30 cars. The trail was beautiful and there were all age groups, bikers, joggers and walkers. Even though it was busy, there were enough trails that you weren't constantly in sight of other people, so social distancing wasn't an issue.

I will be back after the winter!

The Westville Recreation Area is a lovely place to walk (with or without your dog), run, fish or have a picnic. The walking is relatively flat but not completely. The walk around the dam is about 2 miles. If you walk in the opposite direction, along the river, you have two choices - beside the river and back or above the river and back. There is a lovely bridge along the river to admire the rapids. Around the dam plus either the upper or lower walk and back is about 4 miles.

So far this year, I've seen a red tailed hawk, heard a wild turkey, lots of geese, ducks and turtles. Someone who is more knowledgable than I could tell you about all the other birds I hear.

The picnic area is wheel chair accessible and has a lovely few of fields and the dam.

A lovely spot brought to us by the Army Corps of Engineers thanks to a hurricane and resultant flooding in the mid1950's.

Beautiful place to go. There’s a great recreation area with a couple grills that you can rent out, and the dam itself is a great place to visit if you have kids because it’s such a big structure they will most certainly be amazed.

This is a great spot to visit. We frequent here with the kids and dog. They have had runnng water at drink fountains and a restroom. The path is quite large and open on one half but the other half is a bit more tight and hilly. We still were able to do the whole walk with a 2child stroller. They do have a picnic are with tables and hibachi grills- bring along some fire starter and have a great day. Boat launch access too but a smaller area so it’s not water for thrill seekers or long trips down a river. No paved areas except maybe one spot by the dam otherwise it’s dirt/ sand/ gravel mix- nicely groomed. Carry out what you bring in we saw some garbage but not much- shame on people. Enjoy visiting here

Nice outdoor photo ops. Water, trees and rocks make for great landscape images. Good walking trails, easily done.

This is a great place for bringing a dog to let it run around, kids to pass some balls with. You could even practice your golf swing. There are 3 trails there that are comfortable to walk. There are grills that can be used and an area for parties like family reunions. They also have rest rooms.

There was a skatepark, a beach, lots of activities for kids if you have children. The water is beautiful and the area is quiet.

This recreation area is part of the Army Corps of Engineers flood control project. All roads have gates that are closed at times of high water since this is the flood plain. There are on site bathrooms and picnic tables but no trash cans. Dogs on a leash are allowed and waste bags are provided at the trail heads. There is a pavilion which is sometimes full and is pre-reserved for events. A boat ramp and fishing access make this area attractive to sport fishermen or women. There is filed suitable for a pick-up game of baseball or kite flying. The part of this area that makes it a "5" in our books is the hiking trails that go up either side of the stream at the parking lot. These are level paths. The "low road" is partially paved ( remnants of a former road) . The "high road" has a hill at the beginning but levels out and gives exceptionally lovely views of the water below. For hardy soulswho have a whole afternoon to spare the high and low routes can be linked for a circle trip. [ Take the high road to the end, cross the bridge and climb up the access road to the tar road and walk left. In less than a mile you'll come to a road on the left that will lead back to the low road which will bring you back to the parking lot. Lots of shade, beautiful New England forests , and a stream as your centerpiece.

Amazingly beautiful and well maintained place with a river right in middle. Perfect place to go with family for a picnic, make sure to carry your own trash bag as there are trash cans on the property. My 5 yr old enjoyed running and rolling down the gentle hills. Very calm and serene.

This is a perfect little natural park. It is full of walkers in the afternoons (dogs on leash! but still it is nice) on rock-sanded good paths that wind in and out of woods next to the Quabog river (fishable) and across a real little marsh with bluebird boxes. It has a good soccer field and good pavilons for family parties up on the hill. If you like to practice on nice wild landscapes, this is a good place to draw or paint.
