About
As Seen On: Ancient Aliens & Unsolved Mysteries. On February 6, 2015, The Historical Society inducted Reed into the state's official archives with the following words: "The Historical Society in Massachusetts has formerly and officially inducted the first off-world UFO case in US history. The historical society confirms that the Reed off-world incident is historically true and warrants induction." In November, the governor also issued two citations to Thomas Reed. One could argue that the induction into official state records by the Great Barrington MA historical society and subsequently Massachusetts Governor Charles D Baker of the "off-world incident" of the Reed family in Sheffield Massachusetts on the evening of September 1, 1969, marks the beginning of this long-awaited official recognition. These formal statements by sitting government officials about the Thom Reed off-world incident represent the first official step in disclosure.

We came to the covered bridge and park. Cute little place to walk around with benches and lights. There is a monument marker from the history channel marking the UFO sighting. Interesting fact.

My wife and I were on a road trip around New England and just entering the outskirts of Sheffield on Route 7. As I drove I was compelled to glance to my left and saw a covered bridge down a side road. We decided to turn round and visit the covered bridge. We love seeing covered bridges. We parked up and we were taking in the scenery and taking photographs when I noticed the plaque mounted on a pole on the other side of the bridge. It had been dedicated by the History Channel and was to commemorate the first UFO siting by Thomas Reed and his family on 1 September 1969. The small park near the river is a beautiful place to visit. On researching the site on the Internet after reaching our hotel I discovered that the original concrete block and large metal plaque had been torn down and removed by the local council on 4 June 2019 because of a planning/boundary dispute. Anyway we really enjoyed looking at the parkland, the river and the covered bridge. We were both really interested in reading the plaque and experiencing the location of the first UFO siting. We then drove to our destination in Connecticut. During that evening in our hotel room we decided to watch the History Channel on the TV and there was a program about Thomas Reed and his experience with aliens! How spooky is that! In addition the date of the UFO incident of 1 September 1969 was the date that I started my first job and stayed with the company for 42 years. Coincidence or spooky?

who doesn't love alien abduction stories? Sadly the concrete monument has been removed, apparently under some scandal in the newspaper in early 2019. However the bridge - which is one of the oldest covered bridges remains and on the far side of the bridge is a new sign commemorating the REED's experience. A short distance past the bridge is an eerie crop field - coincidence? Not sure you believe the story? Look it up on youtube.....we are not alone. :)

The Town of Sheffield installed the Monument in 2015 via the DPW and a Boston Law-firm. But for unknown reasons Nadine (A Sheffield Selectmen) put the Town in a vulnerable position when she lied to the papers asserting "Reed" installed the Monument. Nadine later confessed, and a new Park Centerpiece was added in 2019. See documents: www.ufopark.org

The road to the bridge is close while the bridge gets a new roof, not sure when it will re-open, perhaps by the end of August. The UFO plaque has been moved to the other side of the river, next to the east bank of the Housatonic.

A small park with big name sponsors, such as History Channels Ancient Aliens. What we talked about when back on the road, was the many familiar names who sponsor or are affiliated. That's what had us talking, so its very unique in that why.

There's a sign on US7 for the covered bridge. Take it. The bridge is about 100 yards off US7. The bridge does not take cars, but you can walk on it. There's a parking lot right by the bridge. It is in very good shape, and this is an excellent way to view a traditional New England covered bridge. The UFO site/monument is across the bridge, with 2 benches. It's a nice spot for a picnic or to just chill. It's a surprisingly peaceful spot. Has a weird energy. Across the bridge, by the monument, is a dirt road leading off into woods and farm field. The Housatonic River runs by, quickly.

A picturesque riverside park with startling history. Although separate from the UFO Park, the Old Covered Bridge makes for a stunning centerpiece. The UFO Monument sits behind the covered bridge at the cusp off an old dirt road where the historic incident accrued. Solar lights highlight black and gray benches. Benches sponsored by such names as the International UFO Museum in Roswell and TVs Fact or Faked Ben Hansen, who shares a bench with famed Travis Walton. Its Norman Rockwell meets Steven King in the soul of the Berkshires. The home of the first UFO incident to be Officially Inducted into United States history, as Historically True. Fascinating.

Tiny park with two plaques and a rock with the words "I believe" painted on it. No monument .... not sure what this was or what happened. Park is adjacent to a covered bridge on a road off Route 7. Do not trust your GPS app if it tells you to take multiple side roads - you will arrive at site but only after driving an extremely rutted dirt road. Instead look for road off Route 7. The setting is pretty.

I am sorry, if you had anticipated something more. It is an extraordinary place, with a remarkable history. A spot we look after, and keep true to form. As not to see it spoiled with gift shops and high-priced green milk shakes. In total, there are six donated benches, six solar lights a sculpture and a historic marker. Over a dozen plaques, and a round picnic table was just donated by Melanie from Unsolved Mysteries – Berkshires UFO. It is growing and with that we do hope to have the outdoor telescope in by Oct 2021. Thank You

After reading about the UFO incident in the Boston Globe, we visited the UFO site and read more about the incident. The actual location is on the EAST side of the river, just across the covered bridge. 42.123999, -73.354500

There's some controversy about the governor's issuance of an official Citation as well as the location of the marker. In any case, this is a beautiful spot, perfect for a visit, walk, or picnic. It's also one of the best-known canoe/kayak access points for the Housatonic River.
