David is an artist with impressive skill working with oil on canvas, and a romantic capturing the special atmosphere of coastal Maine. I love the detailed rendering of houses, outbuildings and landscapes in a seasidey setting. I love the interiors with the play of sunlight beaming through old wooden double-hung windows. He captures childhood memories. A visit to his gallery and chat with him is a highlight of a visit to Rockport!

My family has come to Cape Ann for 14 summers and always make Rockport part of our trip. I found David's shop 3 years ago and bought my first piece from him. I absolutely love his work as it represents what we love about the area. This year I bought my second piece and I am so excited to display it with my first piece. Stop in and browse and talk with David.

mwhipple2018, Thank you for the high praise! Know that it is a pleasure having you and your family in the gallery, and a privilege to share my work with you. It's great knowing that images of our beautiful seaside town live in the state of Minnesota and help encourage you to find your way back to the North Shore each summer. Enjoy, and much happiness and success to you all.

If you love Cape Ann/the North Shore, and you want its essence captured on canvas, David Arsenault is the artist for you. We have his painting of Straitsmouth Island hanging in our home, and the compliments never cease. Which is nice to hear, but the real value to us is that every time we look at his painting, we are taken back to Rockport, to sea breezes and soft North Atlantic light, to refreshing solitude and contemplation. He is also a joy to deal with in person. He adores Rockport and its environs, and pitches in regularly on local conservation projects.

William M, Thank you for the very generous review! It's a real pleasure when my work is appreciated as much as it is by you. And it's a true privilege to live in Rockport and immerse ourselves—my wife Sue and I—in a place that is beautiful, filled with quality individuals and artists, and visited by so many fine people from around the world! I look forward to your next visit. My Best, David

I visited David's gallery as it was getting dark, as it does early in October. There was a painting in the window of a tabby kitten on a bed, in a ray of sunshine. Very inviting, and I entered his space of light. His landscapes and interiors are beautiful - I love his use of color and light. It was overall an inspiring experience -- his work, his gentle conversation and the ambiance of peace. I now have two of his glicees at home in the Hudson Valley.

Dear nancydance, THANK YOU most sincerely for your kind review. Your visits were October highlights, in part due to the conversations. I appreciated your interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for, art (mine and others). And it was stunning to discover your connection to people I worked with as a young adult many years ago! All the best to you, and I look forward to your next visit whenever that may be. David

Wandering through downtown Rockport, we chanced upon the gallery of a local artist named David Arsenault. He specializes in seascapes, although his interiors and nighttime landscapes are impressive too. While some of his paintings bring to mind Edward Hopper, he has a style and sense of color that are uniquely his own. We were fortunate in having a chance to talk with him at some length about his work. His paintings aren’t inexpensive, nor should they be. The bottom line: Mr. Arsenault is an extremely talented artist whose gallery is well worth seeing.

Dear RGinCT, Thank you very much for your visit to my gallery and especially for the excellent review. Mr. Hopper got me started when I was young, but he was just the "appetizer." Doing the work while laboring to more completely communicate what is seen and felt is the "main course!" And Cape Ann serves up a banquet, at least in my eyes. I hope you have the opportunity to visit again so we can continue the conversation. Best Regards, David A.

David's work is colorful and dramatic yet imparts a peaceful sense of place and is recognizably local to Rockport and Gloucester. His gallery is full of original work as well as high-quality giclee prints. He can usually be found working on a painting on the easel right at the front window and is happy to chat with visitors. Located right in Dock Square-be sure to stop in.

Wonderful artist. He concentrates on local scenes. A highly regarded collection. A personal take on representational school. Very precise and beautiful paintings.

The owner/artist is approachable and interesting to talk to. No pressure to buy.

A cut above most of the local art IMHO.

If you love Rockport or are new to Rockport, its a great place to visit. David, the artist, is warm and engaging and can share the stories behind his paintings. He has a great eye for light and shadow (reminiscent of Hopper). His paintings reflect beautiful landscapes of the town, ocean and land.
