My family and I had a great experience with Beth Ann Charters. We felt very secure in the hands of Captain Steve and Mate Zack who were our hosts on our 2 hour kids sea creature cruise from Provincetown. We were originally scheduled to go on a 4 hour whale watch tour, but owner Captain Rich had been in touch with us ahead of time to advise us that the whales were currently further north than usual, and that we would be more likely to have a good experience with our 2 children if we switched to the shorter tour since we would have spent the entire tour just getting to the whales and back due to their current position. We knew Captain Rich wanted us to have the best possible experience (how many businesses recommend you spend less money with them than you were planning to?), and we are very grateful for his sage advice as we certainly enjoyed our trip. We were just on our way out of the harbor when we spotted a whale. Captain Steve said it is was very lucky as they are not always so close in to the harbor. We spent a little time following the whale and felt it was a great start to the trip. We cruised along the shoreline and my daughter got to catch her first fish ever. Mate Zack was very helpful, and made it a truly special moment for my daughter to get to reel him in, and pose for a picture. After a quick bit of fishing we headed off to pull a lobster pot. On the way there we saw another whale and got pretty close for a few surfacings until he dove deep and we continued to the lobster pot which had a lobster in it, and a bunch of different crab. It was fun to see it in person. When we got back to the dock we were greeted by Jack the seal. He likes to hang out by the boats when they return, and was right next to us looking at us. Captain Steve was great the whole trip telling us stories, and interacting with my whole family (except my 19 month old who was lulled to sleep by the sea). He and Zack are very personable and made the trip very relaxed. Our thanks to them, and to Captain Rich for offering such good service, and honesty. They really look out for their guests!!

This was the second time I've been out with Captain Rich. I've taken fishing charters and fly fishing guides in many parts of the country, so I wonder why I don't do it more often in my hometown of Provincetown when we have such great fishing here? I guess you just don't think of your own backyard sometimes!
I'm also a kayak and nature tour guide here and I understand you can't control the weather and the fish, but you can do your best to make it a great trip regardless.
Rich certainly did his best, he got us on lots of stripped bass, way more than I expected, and also just has a great mannerism and a way of connecting with people. If we didn't catch a fish I still would have been happy. Three of us went and it was money well spent! The picture shows two of us (I'm the handsome one on left) and both of these strippers were too large to keep, both over the 35 inch limit. We still got our limit of delicious bass and even had one late season bluefish to keep, in the next pic. I didn't count the number but we landed somewhere between 15 and 20 bass, a VERY good day. That's because Rich just knows where to go at what time and he works hard for it.
The number one job of any charter boat captain or guide is give their customers the best experience they can, and they work hard at it. Rich certainly did!
I'm certainly going to go out with him again and highly recommend him to anyone, be it a fishing trip a whale watch or a sunset tour, I'm sure you'll have fun!
I work hard to give my customers the best experience they can have, I take pride in that and I can certainly recognize that Rich takes pride in doing the same, and it shows.

David, thank you. It was an awesome trip, not just because of what we caught but because of you three. The best trips for me are when I feel like I’m just out there fishing with my friends, talking, laughing, shooting the #$*@, and busting on each other. Thanks again for trusting us to provide fun, fish, and memories!

On Thursday June 17th my son and I went on the 2.5 hr stripper/bluefish charter aboard the Bethie Had an outstanding time. Steve was the captain and did a great job finding fish. He is very relaxed and calm, easy to work with. Explained all aspects of the trip thoroughly. The boat was beautiful. Highly recommend using the Beth Ann charter services. These guys know the Provincetown area waters and will provide a trip that is well worth the money

Thank you so much for coming on our private shorter trip. Captain Steve, a year rounder Cape Codder, is the best! Come back to see the whales!

On their Website, Beth Ann Charters lists all of the steps they take to ensure a clean and safe ride, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately the only thing the did was power-wash the boat; they did not wipe down frequently touched surfaces (fishing poles, handles), and there was little room to sit outside the cabin. The captain, Captain Mike and the mate wore their masks as chin guards most of the time, and when the mate did cover his face, he did not cover his nose. This was especially uncomfortable, as the mate kept coming close to us to adjust the fishing poles.

Its possible that when Captain Rich runs the charter, he makes sure to provide a positive, informed, friendly experience, but this was not at all the case with Captain Mike. He and the mate hardly said two words to us, nor did they explain how their charter runs. The mate basically set up the fishing poles, and then told us when to reel it in. Really. Even in a pandemic, there is a way to safely talk to your passengers, so it can hardly be blamed on that. Towards the end of the charter, the mate came to chat with us for a bit, ask us where we were from, etc. But at that point, it felt like he was just chatting us up for a nice tip.

Moreover, when we asked the mate about one of the two fish we caught, he told us that he thought we wouldn’t want it, so he threw it back into the water. (note; there was no issue of it being too short/small and not permitted to keep) Why the hell would we not want one of the fish we caught?!

It was such an awful experience.

I recommend waiting till next summer to consider using this charter, when you don't have to worry about Covid -19 safety procedures, and when the captain hires a different mate; not the current teenager who seems bored, disengaged and unappreciative of his summer job.

Wow, where to begin, this is Captain Rich. Sometimes after 15 years in the business you have a gut feel and it’s best Not to take a customer. Lesson learned here. First, these two brought their two year old with them, which is normally not a problem. However, on the day of their charter it was blowing 20, and really bad out. I called them to tell them that it was probably not a good idea to bring a baby out in this. She would hear none of it, and had to talk to her husband to decide - I said I will make it easy for her, as Captain, and cancel the charter for safety reasons, period. End of story, not so. The next day we had a cancellation, being a good person I contacted them to see if they would like to fill that slot, even giving them a reduced rate because of the previous days cancellation, they accepted. When they arrived at the dock, the two year old was a holy terror, running down the dock, 15 feet away from the parents, no life jacket, water just waiting for him. We loaded them on board with Rhys and Captain Mike, and wished them luck. The next day all Rhys could do was shake his head when I asked how they controlled their kid on the charter. As far as Covid, we follow our rules, especially so I don’t get sick and infect my 93 year old mother in law. Rhys’ mom is a nurse, he follows the rules. Mikes better half is a nurse, he follows the rules, better than all of us. I ask all to read all of our reviews, see what people say about Rhys, his manners, his personality, etc. , as well about Mike. Sometimes there is no pleasing people, and sadly what they give out in vibes, manners, etc comes back to them in the same way. We/I went out of our way to accommodate these two, squeezing them in between two other charters, calling them the next day to see if they wanted to come out. Basic manners would say they would call me directly with feedback if not satisfied, in addition to writing a review, which is always appreciated. But, sadly that wasn’t the case here.

This was the perfect Birthday gift for my husband who loves to fish. As we were allowed to bring a party of six, we were able to include our 7 year old granddaughter and several other family members. The trip to the fishing grounds is beautiful, out past Long Point and along the back beach.

Probably the best part of a charter is having the Captain and mate do all the work except reeling in the fish. Captain Rich has many years of experience in finding the fish and the Mate Rhys was very attentive to preparing the rods, watching for a strike and best of all, cleaning our catch once it was on board. He was also a charming conversationalist during the periods when we were steaming to a new location, answering everyone’s many questions about the operation. I should also mention that the new “BethAnn” is roomy and comfortable with on-board head, refrigerator and plenty of room to be either in or out of the sun depending on your preference.

We went out with our 2 girls, ages 5 and 8. Booked a fishing whale watch combo trip. As soon as we arrived Rich told us they have not had much luck with the whales the last couple days and if we decided not to go look he would refund that part of the trip . Did not rush me for a decision, said we could see how the day went then decide. So off we went. His mate Reese did a wonderful job with the girls teaching them and did a great job explaining everything. We stayed ashore fishing for mackeral and got us right up close to the seals! At one point a seal was following the caught fish on line and got right up close to the boat! It was awesome! We then ventured out deeper. It was a super windy day and the waves were just too much for myself and daughter. So we asked if we could go back and just fish for mackarel. Water was a lot calmer there. Absolutely, no problem. They did what we asked turned us around and we fished some more. They worked hard to find us fish and keep us happy. I think if the water was calmer that day we could have definetly stayed out and caught some striped bass as they were determined to give us a great experience that we were comfortable with. At the end of the trip, since we did not go look for whales, Rich told me he would refund that part. Which I thought was amazing. Most would take their money and run! I highly recommend this charter! They work well together ensuring their customers have a great time. A big thank you Rich and Reese for giving my girls a day they will never forget!

Thank you so much fir the kind words. We love to do the private whale watch and fishing trips, but without the whales it’s just not right - another day perhaps! Have a great year and hopefully we will see you again.

I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this trip. Captain Rich and his crew gave us such a great experience and we had so much fun…even in the rain!
We started out with visiting the seals, moved on to seeing the whales, caught so many fish, we lost track of how many (blues, stripers, and mackerel), and cruised back sleepy and sated from the salt air and beautiful views.
The crew was so patient and helpful with the fishing newbies, and soon they were pulling in one after the other.
Beth Ann Charters is a must for a family or group of friends!

Captain Steve and Mate Simone went above & beyond to make sure we had a great sport fishing & whale watching experience. We caught blue fish & saw whales. They were professional and friendly and it was obvious that they enjoyed their work as they shared stories & history of the waters of Cape Cod. I would do this again in a heart beat & I highly recommend this unique experience.

We chose the 2.5 hour short trip on an afternoon with myself, my wife, and our 10 year old daughter. It was the three of us plus the captain and a helper. We drove out a bit and searched for fish in a few spots, but it was a windy day and there didn't seem to be many fish around. The captain was determined to find some fish and managed to take us to a nice spot off Herring Cove in which we caught several bluefish. They were helpful to us and our daughter who are novice fisherpeople. We chose to throw back most of what we caught, but did keep one to feed the seal friend in the harbor. All around a successful and memorable excursion in Ptown!

What a great trip as usual. We have booked trips with Captain Rich for many years now. His boat is the nicest most comfortable boat in the charter fleet. Rich always looks hard for fish and even in a day where we thought all we would catch was mackerel WHAM BAMM the bass were on the line. Rich and his knowledgeable first mate Rhys always had the right tackle that the situation called for. No keepers but many fish in the 25inch range. Book with Rich it is well worth it for a trip surely to be remembered for years to come. Thumbs up to hard working Rhys for educating us on how and what to do.
