- ShipsGalleyPlymouth, Massachusetts59 contributionsPUBLIC BEACH?Okay without giving a history lesson let's put a few things to rest... White Horse Beach is mostly a private beach with limited access and virtually no parking for nonresidents. The "Public" portion of the beach is only about 400 yards long with lifeguard stands (in season), the rest of the 2 mile beach is private down to the water's edge at mean high tide - think of everything northwest of the creek as private w/o lifeguards. The town of Plymouth (recent staff) has always pushed people toward WHB to alleviate the strain on Long Beach with out knowing the dynamics of the area. WHB was mostly summer folks without cars, so cottage owners were not consulted on proposals proffered by the year round residents. The town has also ignored the original premise for building on the ocean side of Taylor Ave, thus causing the shanty town (AKA The Sands) that clutters the beach east of the creek. Your question about "Car required", if you can park you'll have to walk 100+ yards and if you have a much cherished parking spot you might stay in excess of 3 hours. Another consideration: The beach offers no shade and the water is about 55-60 degrees in the summer.Visited January 2017Traveled with friendsWritten January 4, 2017

SAD, It’s called a public Beach but the public cannot use due to no parking. Parking restrictions keep the public out of the beach.
Sad, after 50 years going to WB, we can no longer go on the beach for vacation, a family tradition coming to an end.

Thought we found a great beach to spend a few hours at until we got back to our parked car. $50 parking ticket, when there was clearly NO SIGNAGE stating could not park here. The town of Plymouth likes to stick it to the tourists by these entrapment ploys...unfortunate because the tourists pour a lot of money into your town!! Disappointed visitor

The only bad thing I can say about this trip is I’m sad i didn’t come here sooner. Visited a lot towards the end of summer. Lovely beach, really nice place for a walk, take pictures, saw kids playing football/frisbee but quiet enough even if you just want to sit and read a book, ran into nice friendly people everywhere. Will definitely be my main beach next summer. 5 stars!

I would rate a zero if I could. This beach used to be opened to the public but now it’s strictly a resident only beach. Not worth the $50 ticket. Day passes aren’t even a thing here. Wont be coming back to Plymouth for my summers.

You will be given a parking ticket regardless of whether or not you park in legal parking. They know you’re from out of town and can do nothing about it.

Great for morning walks with a cup of coffee. Could be difficult to find parking, however we stayed at a private residence with access to the beach. One thing caught me by surprise was when a vehicle was driving the beach and had a dog running behind. I guess the dog needed more exercise than the human

There’s a reason this beach isn’t listed on the town of Plymouth beach list or chamber of commerce list. It’s a beach yes, has a few public access points the size of an alley, three portable toilets on the beach... put no public parking.
We went on a damp night and couldn’t believe all the no parking signs.
Unless you are renting a house in this neighborhood I can’t imagine going here on a sunny warm day!
Nice area just not really a tourist attraction.

Absolutely no parking and walking to the beach takes forever!!! No amenities, no restrooms, no food, no alcohol, no barbeques! A few lifeguards, and great white SHARKS!!

Public beach in Plymouth that gets crowded during nice days. The beach is wide and spacious, but definitely noisy/busy during the day and it can be hard to find a good spot. Soft sand, but layers of rocks that are tough to walk on and lots of rocks in the water. The water was too cold to swim (late May) but was refreshing to dip in quickly. No lifeguards on duty, no bathrooms or any kind of public facilities. Very very difficult to find a parking spot (street parking only), but at least it was free to park. Police showed up a couple of times. Overall a beautiful beach with lovely, scenic views, and definitely worth the drive.

Trust me… It’s not worth the $50 ticket. The local police are literally barked across from the “public entrance” to the beach!
What to expect:
1) $50 ticket regardless of where you park.
2) Stones… not sand!
3) White Sharks… No kidding!
4) Dark seaweed patches only a few feet from shore.
5) An overwhelming feeling of not being welcome!
6) A beach that is advertised as public, but simply is not!

What’s the deal with a camp fire at night? Is it considered “private” beach for residents (including renters of homes with private access) where a small fire is ok?

What is the parking situation ?
Parking is minimal, which is probably part of the issue in reopening it as a bar. It would have to be set up as a walk-up establishment, if such a thing is possible.

Does anyone have any newspaper clippings of the short-lived Plymouth Rock Factory? I opened that as well as The Full Sail in the mid 70's...Sorry to read of the fire at The Full Sail. Very sad...

hello Jeffrey...i remember the full sail on the beach...i am 57 years old and me and my family started going to manomet in the mid 60s and in the late 70s and early 80s my brother and I and our friends went often to the full sail. i am now interested in the building and the possibilities of reopening the place. i cant find any info on this fullsail llc...have you had any luck? how long did you own the place?

I am the person who originally opened The Full Sail on White Horse Beach in the mid 70's and would love to hear from any of my old 'neighbors' there. Also owned the house across the street from the bar. Interested in contacting the owners of Full Sail LLC as well. Sad to see of the fire...

I spend a lot of time at Priscilla Beach every summer and would love to see someone reopen the Full Sail. I think it could be a little gold mine if it were turned into a sandwich and drink shop, so that the beachgoers from Priscilla and White Horse Beach could just walk up and buy lunch. Coffee and danish in the morning would also be great. Is the property hung up in tax court or are there legal issues? Seems like such a waste when it could be put to great use and would be very appreciated by everyone in the vicinity.
