Nice in the Fog
Oct 2019
We played 2 rounds there in one day. First round was in the fog, a thick fog, the kind hat makes every shot a blind one. I played well. After lunch, the fog cleared and I saw the course for the first time. Decent design/decent conditions, but, you may still prefer to play this place in the fog.

It's awesome you got to see how big of a spectrum of conditions we have. Thanks for sticking around to let the fog clear and reveal the beautiful course our maintenance team works so hard to provide. We're looking forward to having you back for a third, even better round soon. Best, Mark R. Owner

Be careful who you give your credit card number to in advance
Jul 2019
Great course. Well taken care of. Excellent condition. Delightful bag boy, pro shop attendant, and starter. Daily fee higher than most. We had 14 people playing. Ten players used a discount coupon purchased for $60 from course in February. Pro shop accepted coupons as they had for the last two years. Done deal we thought. Course waived any restrictions on the discount coupon when they accepted the coupon as payment in full as they had in 2017 & 2018. Owner of course then sent one of his people out to our leader for the day on 3rd hole to tell him coupons were unacceptable since we were considered group play & coupon said ineligible for group play. We disagreed. He charged our leader of the day's credit card $85 + $3 bag boy fee he elected for a total of $88 less $60 for coupon for 10 players, total of $280. Credit card company allowed the charge after our leader disputed it. This could have been handled in a number of ways that would have been more amicable. Owner is not a good businessman. Will never go back. Plenty of other courses.

It's a shame your disagreement with our policies would cause you so much dissatisfaction. We understand your frustrations over how your group was charged in previous years. However, our policies are subject to change yearly. We must maintain current and equal treatment of every group who comes for a round. You're right, this could have been handled in a way more amicable than dishonestly disputing the charge of a product you clearly used, and turning to a review site to lodge baseless allegations about the integrity of our business. Out of towner in need of a golf fix
Sep 2019 • Friends
Rented clubs- Callaway Strata - not a full set or clean.
The starter was delightful with a sense of humor. Times are well spaced.
The beauty of the course is not on the fairways but the integrity of the woods along the fairways which make the area beautiful.
The greens are in good shape - clean, fast and well cut.
The sand traps have light good sand (not packed).
Each hole has lots of traps - middle and along the edges of the fairways and surrounding the greens.
The fairways are beat up - does anyone replace their divot or use the bottled divot repair, on each cart? Not on this course. Is it because of tourists? The fees are high for the conditions.
For 145$, I had my golf fix, spent an incredibly beautiful day on the course and had lots of laughs with a friend.
I’m the winner. I will not go back tomorrow.

Thank you for coming out to enjoy our course. It's good to see our team was able to take care of you. We appreciate your positive words about the conditions of the course, and will be passing them along to our hard-working maintenance staff. We are sorry that your rental clubs did not meet your expectations and we will be reevaluating them for future use. Now that you've gotten a sample of our course, we look forward to seeing you again. Waverly Oaks Groupon
Aug 2019 • Friends
Bought a Groupon $60 coupon and used at golf club. We have been going there for over 5 years, this year owner sent an attendant out to coarse because OWNER wanted an additional $28 per person. Says Groupon was not eligible for complete costs. Nice course, nice employees, cheap OWNER.

Best Public Golf Course Around?
Jul 2018 • Friends
Course is always extremely well maintained, whether in the beginning of the season or the end. Very challenging yet forgiving fairways (Yes, I know this is an oxymoron, but go see for yourself!). Actually becoming one of my favorite courses because it is so fun to play. Don't even get me started about the carts, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Electric with interactive screen of the hole (including yardage to any point). Seats are Corinthian leather wrapped around the most comfortable cushion known to man (#Truth). The fairways are so plush that the divots look like pieces of steak!

JDLT Tip: Pick yourself up an Old Neighborhood hot dog on the turn, it will add yards to your drive!

We're happy you enjoyed every part of your round. Our grounds crew loves how our players enjoy their efforts. We'll definitely pass that along. Hope to see you on the tee soon. Best, Mark R. Owner

Great golf, ownership is miserable
Jul 2018 • Friends
Golf course represents a challenging layout to test your golf game on a beautiful and interesting tract. Regrettably, ownership/management is one of the worst ever experienced.
Our group had purchased Groupon Coupons on line AND Waverly Oaks issued Saver coupons also on line. All were good for calendar year 2018. These coupons were initially accepted in the pro shop. Yet, upon trying to use these coupons two weeks later, we were advised that the coupons would not be honored. WTF? Further, the pro-shop staff told us that the owner, who was in his office upstairs at the time, was not willing to come down to discuss this situation with us.
Eventually, following heated discussions, telephone calls, and emails with the owner, it was reluctantly agreed to accept the $60 coupons AND a cash payment of $15, in return for which we could use the coupons and get a $10 meal voucher (food only) for use in the on premises restaurant on that day only.
Bottom line appears to be all the hoopla, unnecessary rise in blood pressures, and heated discussions resulted in the owner getting an additional $5 from us.
There also appears to have been an unusually high turnover in positions of head pro, pro shop staff, and other support staff.

Enjoying a round of golf should always be a smooth process, Bob. We want to make sure the only thing you're worried about when you come see us is making birdies. It's unfortunate this situation prevented that from being the case with your group. As with all coupons and specials there is the fine print. Groupons and Waverly Saves are not eligible for advance booking group play which was the case with your group. We hope you've found the solution satisfactory as your group played several more times at Waverly during the season. Best, Mark R. Owner

First time and will be the last time!
Aug 2018 • Friends
I will give two stars because the course was pretty nice, but will not go back for being so mistreated.

A friend loved this course so much that he asked some of us to play. I have never played here, so I was super excited. Unfortunately, one of our foursome got sick that morning, so only three of us were able to make it. To our surprise, Waverley asked us to pay for that fourth person. We were told that so many people didn’t show up that morning and they have decided to “reinforce” their policy. Their policy is that they have 24hour cancellation policy and if all party of people doesn’t show up, we are responsible for it. We understand why they have such policy, but I have never experienced such a nasty rude customer service from management for showing up to play at their course! When my friend wrote an email to complain, the general manager name Mark told him to not come back.
Wow! This was the friend who raved so much about the course... I guess we are not going back or we are not allowed anymore!

You are always allowed and welcome at our course, Kalin. Our no show policy is enforced when we have a busy day. We apologize if our staff communicated our policy in manner that was distasteful to you. Our goal at Waverly Oaks is to treat all guests with courtesy and dignity. We sincerely hope that you give us another try. Best, Mark R. Owner

Wonderful weddding

Attended a friend's wedding on a stormy day. That staff did an amazing job adapting to the weather conditions and moving the ceremony inside. There reception area and dining / dancing hall were both spacious and the food was excellent.

An occasion as special as a wedding shouldn't take a backseat to a little weather. We know how important this is to everyone involved. We'll always do everything we can to ensure the perfect day. Thanks for letting us make the occasion memorable. We hope you'll come see us again soon. Best, Mark R. Owner

Change in fees for discount program
Jul 2018 • Friends
I played Waverly Oaks 7/19/18, with a group of retired, college friends. When we tried to use the Golfing Magazine Certificate we were unpleasantly surprised to learn that a $25 cart fee was added. I have played Waverly many times along with several corporate tournaments. I have used the Golfing Magazine Certificate since 2016 and never had to pay a cart fee. When we questioned the fee change we were informed that the policy was changed this year. We were given the option to pay the added fee or not play. Given that we had traveled 1-3 hours for a day of golf, not playing was not an acceptable option. I suspect our group will not be travelling any distance in the future. Given that the greens fee rack rate includes carts and the certificate states “One greens fee with one paid greens fee…” the fee should include cart. I’m very disappointed with Waverly Oaks as it is one of our favorite courses and my preferred course. Waverly Oaks should either honor the Golfing Magazine Certificate or remove Waverly from the program.

It's regretful this miscommunication left your round feeling disappointing. We understand new policies can be a hard transition. If any member of our staff failed to properly communicate our policies, and the difference in greens fee prices, that's our mistake. We hope since this review you've returned for many enjoyable rounds. If you're looking for a break on our rack rates, we have several online booking options. Due to the confusions you experienced along with others, Waverly Oaks no longer participates in the Golf Magazine program. Best, Mark R. Owner

Course is nice management is awful
May 2018 • Friends
A group of 6 decided to use a groupon to play on a cold rainy Sunday. Although a family friend told us to stay away from Waverly because it is poorly managed, we decided to go anyway.

We successfully played 17 holes, was on the 18th tee box when a high school kid drove up and told us management didn't want us to Tee off. In hindsight, we should have played in but decided to see what the issue was.

We asked to see a manager who told us our pace of play was too slow. We explained, we were 20 minutes behind but it was 55 degrees and raining, that no one was in front or behind us and we had never been warned of our pace. Regardless, he refused to let us play instead provided $20 credits to return. Really? After spending over $600, they couldn't let us play the 18th hole?

Stay away, far, far away! I think they offer groupons hoping people don't use them and if they do, they make it an unpleasant experience. There are many other nice courses in Plymouth. Their management will actually appreciate your business.
