I chartered the Pilgrim Belle for a private 3 hour harbor cruise on August 29th for my daughter's baby shower, and I couldn't be more pleased! If I could give 10 stars, I would! The day was absolutely perfect and my daughter had the best time! First let me start by saying the boat is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect choice for my theme "Ahoy, it's a boy!" It has a spacious enclosed lower deck with a bar and air conditioning and a great open top deck for all of your guests to mingle and enjoy the cruise while also getting to watch the cool giant red paddle wheels in action! All of the staff at Captain John Boats that I had the pleasure of interacting with are truly amazing and went above and beyond to make our day such a great success! Jaime was my go to planner from the beginning and she was always super timely and responsive answering all of my questions and made sure everything was in place and ready for the big day! Karen our bartender and John were 2 of the main crew members working my party that day, and I really can't say enough kind things about either of them! They were so friendly, accommodating and super professional! They worked with me setting everything up to make sure I was ready to go before letting guests board and made all necessary announcements I needed over the microphone during our cruise to make sure everything went smoothly according to our plans and timing. All the crew were very attentive to all of my and my guests needs. They helped out with everything from loading the boat with all of my caterers supplies and my decorating to helping get all of the things I brought on board and all of my daughter's gifts loaded up into cars for us at the end! This was a party of 50 so there was A LOT of stuff and gifts! There were several other crew members involved in helping out for our party, but unfortunately I didn't get all of their names. I want to include them in this review though because they all did an outstanding job! I highly recommend Capatain John Boats and Pilgrim Belle Cruise for any private event you're planning! What a super unique experience that I know my daughter and all of my guests will remember and talk about for years to come! Thank you Captain John Boats and all of the crew for making my daughter's baby shower such a great success!!!

I took Fast Ferry from Plymouth to Provincetown with my daughter. On way over it was very nice trip with sea's very calm, we sat on top deck. Capt read State and CDC rules also Capt John's Boats rules pertaining to mask at all times. Social distancing was in effect! This was first time going to P-Town, it was a good experience. We spent about 4,5 hrs on the Cape.

On return trip we decided to sit on lower deck seeing it was a little cooler for this trip. Once again State and CDC rules were read. As we got underway the lower deck got pretty loud, which was normal. I looked around and noticed quite a few passengers had removed mask and were sitting in larger groups very close to each other. Two young kids had entered boat with mask on, but when they sat down they both removed mask for entire trip back to Plymouth. Several crew members were present on lower deck that said nothing to anyone about wearing a mask, even though this was announced prior to leaving that morning as Capt John Boat's policy. Other then that needing to be enforced it was a nice quick trip which I would do again.

The COVID pandemic gave Captain John’s crew a chance to show off their stellar customer service. Although they can’t be making much money running ferries at 50% capacity, they offered their usual great experience PLUS additional crew to constantly wipe down the handrails. Since the weather made the ride a bit bouncy, people were holding on to move from place to place, followed not long after by a crew member with a sanitizing wipe. It was very impressive, and will hopefully earn Captain John lots of loyal customers. Be sure to bring some cash, because you’ll want to tip these folks at the end of your voyage.

I was very impressed with the staff of the Capt. John Boats during our whale watch yesterday. The boat capacity was kept very small, masks were worn at all times and the railings were wiped down and sterilized very frequently, so I would give them a 5 star rating for pandemic safety. The crew was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We saw multiple humpback whales and minke whales, and had a beautiful day on the water.

What a great day with a great crew. As we ventured further away from land I kept thinking "what are the odds of being on this little boat in the middle of the Atlantic miles from shore and actually happening upon whales?" About the time I began to express those thoughts to my wife I noticed the crew looking and pointing and a few minutes later someone on the boat shouted "there's a whale behind us". We slowly turned and our naturalist explained some things about how long whales may stay under when they dive so we need to be patient. For the next hour we watched 2 hump back whales surface and dive and leisurely float around and even saw one slap his flippers. We got an education from the naturalist while it all took place. It was a fantastic experience! Thank you to the entire crew!

We booked a whale watch tour via suggestion based on that persons experience. Captain John Boats & crew did not disappoint. Our family's first ever experience was a good memorable one and better than the experience the suggestor had in Maine on a tour from what she heard from us.
The staff was nice and very informative through the whole trip. There was plenty of space for the watchers aboard. The food was better than expected also.
As a first timer aboard a boat like that and first whale watch I appreciated the constant information of what was to happen next so I was not taken by surprise by any sudden changes. We saw plenty of whales, none decided to jump out water completely so that was a bummer but you can't do anything about that, the whales do what they want. They offered a picture for purchase of your group that is taken upon boarding and photos taken while your tour happened. Which was nice and fairly priced.
Our teen aged kids enjoyed the tour as well as my husband and I.
I definitely would recommend this tour! Especially if you want your kids (little) to say "best day ever" or get a 10 out of 10 from the teenagers.

We took the ferry back from P'town to Plymouth on Sunday 24th August.
It was part of a long bike ride from Plymouth to P'town, with the ferry to bring us back to the beginning.
The staff took the bikes from us and loaded them so we didn't have to worry about where to put them. Same thing on the unload.
An unexpected pleasure was a pod of Minke whales putting on a display inside Cape Code Bay! We saw about a dozen jumps just a boat's length away. One of the boat staff is actually a whale naturalist and she told it was a rare occurrence to see Minke's jump - she'd only seen it twice in six years. It was quite a thrill, when all were expecting was a ride home!
I've done this loop ride/ferry trip every year for about five years and I was very glad Captain John was running this year.

Be forewarned that despite what the website says about everyone social distancing and all staff wearing the proper ppe’s, I saw none of that when the ferry pulled in to ptown with our 14yo onboard. We felt good letting him take the ferry’s after reading about all the precautions they said they were making. So I was pretty shocked when it pulled into port that he was one of the few passengers wearing a mask. I only saw one crew member with a ppe that was covering their face. Most of the crew had their masks pulled down to their necks and chins. Some put them pulled them up and then took them down to talk on the walkie talkies. Several passengers were huddled in groups all without masks. Be careful. Be safe. And beware of others that think this thing is all over and don’t care for your health.

The watch was great, except 4 dollars for a bottle of water?? Really? Then as you board, you are forced to have a picture taken for some unknown reason which is made clear at the end when you are ambushed by some teen trying to sell you a portrait of your trip, which I gleefully told her, if the water wasn't 4 dollars ,Id buy it from you. I'm sorry she had to waste her ink printing out pics that no one wanted. It should have been disclosed at the beginning of the trip for people to make that decision, instead of wasting time with the boarding process, which was marred by this huge Indian family with 10 kids that ran amuck and was the loudest and disrespectful I have ever seen. The mothers were all into themselves, dressed like they were at a wedding adorned in gold and the latest pocketbooks. There should be some sort of "control" when this type of behavior is present. If the ignorant mothers cant/wont control the kids, then the crew should. All of the passengers were dismayed at the absurdity of these people. They trashed the place with all their potato chip bags, juice boxes and such.

We had a fairly good experience during our whale watch. We went about 1.5 hrs out to sea and one crew member gave us information over the intercom, however even though we were in the first row right in front of the speaker, we still couldn’t hear them over the loudness of the boat, it was too bad because we could’ve missed out on a lot of good information. However once we stopped and spotted whales they then gave us more information over the intercom which we were able to hear! Over the intercom they told us the numerous ways in which they’ve working to continue to protect the whales, while simultaneously still taking people out on tours, so it was assuring that the crew & other whale watches are being mindful of the whales. Overall it was a pretty good experience.
