Have been here several times for swimming and picnicking during the summer months and once for a bird-watching trip during the spring, when we hoped to glimpse the nesting plover. Before reaching the beach, however, we spent considerable time on a number of trails on Plum Island, including the Dune and Marsh Loops, seeing a wide variety of birds The... More

With the confluence of the Merrimack River and the Atlantic Ocean, this is a lovely area, especially at sunset. The beach is very granular and wraps around the island, making for a variety of views. You'll see fisherpeople, beachcomers, and people having family portraits taken.

Parking is very limited but there are a few lots where you can pay to park. No bathroom facilities at beach but you can walk to a restaurant and grab a bite and use the restrooms there. Can be a bad undertow so not the best beach for kids.

We stopped at this beach on a very cold and rainy spring day to let the kids and dog get some energy out. Great stop! Dog-friendly off season and we were able to let our dog off-leash a bit to run since no one was on the beach. Pretty, New England coastline with lots of tiny, historic beach cottages on... More

After a delicious lunch in Ipswich and before making our way to Gloucester we stopped at Plum Island for a beach walk. My niece and I enjoyed the beach --part of it was closed off for Plovers nesting and there was someone watching over the boundaries. We were glad to see her and told her about a wounded seagull we... Drove up here on a balmy November day for something to do / somewhere new to explore. Walked over to the lighthouse, snapped a few photos, then walked along the beach for an hour or so. Dipped my toes into the water as well, but it was chilly. Nice spot to relax for a while. Good photo opportunities as well.

The peace and serenity of the beach on a chilly Fall day. Primes you for some hot cider, coffee or cocoa!

We vacation every year on Plum Island. Grew up in this area and moved to Plymouth nearly 30 years ago. This is my favorite beach area in New England. Sandy Point is another beach at Plum Island it is at the end of state reservation road, about 8 miles to the end. For the greenhead flies you need Avon Skin... More

A Beautiful place for views and long walks. They also have a beautiful lighthouse nearby. Just went here to walk the beach and found the lighthouse open so we got to go in and to thte top for incredible views.

Quaint small town. Many small unique shops although he selection is very basic. Nice number of casual resturants for lunch. The Drive to Plum island is neat. The saltwater marsh is at roadside. Nice ocean beach but busy time parking will need to be paid for.
