Superb stay of eight nights in a lodge. Lodge very spacious and well fitted out although furnishings rather dated! Our initial lodge had a spiral staircase hindering mobility but quickly changed to a more orthodox one albeit at extra cost.
The lodges are all pine wood and tend to be rather dark inside……moreso because set in heavy woodland …much grown since our last visit 15 years ago! Some general TLC need in grounds but nice patio that caught sun.
As early in season the lodge probably hadn’t been used much but confident as more visitors it will acquire lived in air! The setting is very calm and tranquil although wildlife in short supply.
The location is probably 9km from the town of Souillac. A pleasant medium sized town with an array of amenities including a very large supermarche and several artisan shops. It has hustle and bustle making it a worthwhile visit especially on market days. Several delightful towns and villages within 90 minutes drive.
Our visit was golf centred having previously enjoyed the location…… albeit much younger! We had four enjoyable rounds of golf despite the heat ……30c! The course is challenging first time but once familiar with its quirks enjoyable. Lots of hills, uphill lies, side lies and downhill lies plus several blind holes! Few bunkers all benign but greens are small and take some getting use to……generally slow but plenty of contours to navigate! Probably wise to have generous supply of balls as rough longish and numerous daisy type flowers making your ball magically disappear.
Anyway try to relax and enjoy ……but if like us in our 70s save your heart and take a buggy although we still did 12000 steps per round! As course peaceful and 10 minute starts you get round comfortably in four hours ….. yes occasionally the odd blockage. Re buggy mixed blessing as essential to keep to buggy path as they get annoyed if you take it onto fairways …..sort of understandable but results in lots of walking up and down steep slopes!
I gather the whole development is now owned by a collective of property owners which means only certain lodges are available. Suggest you download the site map and try to specify where you wish to be. Near clubhouse saves walking ….
So overall an enjoyable stay. The pro-shop and reception staff on the ball and very helpful Melissandre and Amendine need worthy mention. French preciseness and growing lighter touch ….well done!
Aside from a couple of other British people mainly French and the odd Dutch or German.
Journey from Dorset just over 600 miles each way doable in one hop on autoroute but better to break into two with Loire stopover.

Souillac Golf & Country Club resort is set in a breathtaking environment where the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. It is ideally situated to explore the Dordogne Valley region, with its majestic waterways, prehistoric caves, castles and charming market towns. Accommodation is provided in elegant lodges of the highest standard, offering stunning views. The houses are built in small hamlets around the 18 hole golf course and harmoniously blend into the natural surroundings. There are many pools across the resort all heated during the summer season and these provide an ideal place for children and families to mix and have fun together. The fun aspect for children is further highlighted with a kids club that runs in high season, providing entertainment and activities to keep the little ones amused! Other facilities include tennis courts, a children’s playground and of course a welcoming 19th hole, the club house where you can enjoy a mix of French and international food and discover some of the fine regional wines! So good that we bought one of the lodges!

We stayed in one of the wooden lodges overlooking the golf course. All of the lodges are set back from the course and do not intrude! The Lodge itself was very well equipped and very comfortable and we were fortunate enough to get some September sun so sitting out on the terrace wit ha cold beer was idyllic! The golf course is demanding enough (buggy recommended) by being tight and thought provoking - mant different shots are required. The clubhouse was spacious and well equipped and the two brand new tennis courts were excellent.
Everyone was very helpful!

This was our third visit to the Souillac Golf & Country Club. And again we´ve had a lovely time. The lodges are spacious, well maintained and provide everything you need. The lodges are located in separate hamlets in the forest. Most of them overlooking the golf course. The golf course itself is located in the forest and hilly. We found it, but we are beginners, sometimes quite hard to play.
Our two children (2 and 5) had a great time. The liked the swimming pool, children’s playground and off course playing in the forest. Furthermore there are many interesting sites to visit in the neighborhood. The restaurant has been improved. It´s only a pity the don´t serve dinner from 18:00 hours.

We have been to this resort 5 times now, our last visit in April. This time it was a group of golfers (including my husband & teenage sons) and me to cook & shop! As a non-golfer I enjoy the scenery, the tranquility & the comfort of the lodge but also the opportunity to engage with my family as the lodge overlooked the!8th fairway I could offer advice (!) & snacks as they passed. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal in Le Clubhouse, service was very attentive & the food & house wine very agreeable. Our companions enjoyed the golf course, one word of advice though, take plenty of balls!

Stayed here with 2 teenage lads. We thought it might be a bit quiet for them but luckily for us there were teenage girls staying in the next lodge!
We stayed on La Gariote,12 houses on this plot, close to the clubhouse and bar. Shared pool was nice and warm enough even for my wife to get into.
The golf course isnt long but is very tight with challenging greens and great views.
Our lodge was very well spec'd and good value, was able to watch live premier league footy on sky sports on large flat screen TV which after round of golf in the sun followed by cold beers in the 19th was very pleasureable.
Only slight criticism was the restaurant where the service could have been better but the food was fine.
Loads of stuff to see locally,a truely beautiful area of France and we have boked to go back in 2012.

We stayed here with old friends this week. This cosy yet spacious chalet has the best views on the site and one can sit on the balcony ,facing south ,and gaze on only a sea of green with not a house in sight!
My sort of holiday chalet. There are about 90 scattered around this wonderful golf course which, I am assured, is an excellent test for club golfers. There are 18 holes and it's rather up and down. Looking around the other chalets, I would not want to stay in some as they have limited views and surrounded by trees. But they are well scattered around the course and each is unique in aspect.
It's is getting more popular with ex pats ( some who live here all year round) and more natives are now using the course as its quality improves. Wonderful greens and tricky rough.
We also ate at the clubhouse where a most welcoming Alex looked after us superbly. He is completely bi lingual and a fund of knowledge . The food was good without being excellent , but the atmosphere was very pleasant .
Especially if you are a golfer wanting a holiday or holiday home in a beautiful part of France, do look carefully at this place as you will be pleasantly surprised.

I have just stayed here for a week and as a non golfer I can say that there is lots to do in the area and the evening meal I had in the clubhouse was excellent. The lodge I stayed in was warm and comfortable and the sun even managed to shine. What more can you ask for?

We went twice for lunch during a 2 week stay in Sarlat. The second time we took the extended family, including a 3 year old and 3 month old baby. The waitress has a lovely smile and is very efficient. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Both times we arrived at midday on the dot and by the time we left, two hours later, all the tables were taken so do book ahead even if it’s only on the morning of the day you plan to go. Highly recommend for families with children.
