Had lunch at Freighyard Pub

We had a nice lunch at the Freightyard Pub. they were renovating the grounds so we didn't get to see much. I've been to the museum in the past. It is nice.

A small museum that was open despite the fact that everything else around was closed. A small exhibit on the building of the oldest tunnel still in use.

Well designed informational presentation of the history of the Hoosack Valley and the building of the Hoosack Railroad Tunnel connecting N. Adams and Albany. Lighting in the tunnel representations could have been better.

This is a hidden gem, unfortunately located hidden away in a side street that is easily missed but well worth the visit. They have done a fabulous job of explaining and demonstrating all about the Hoosick Tunnel and the amazing feat of engineering it took to create it. The interpretive displays are excellent and very informative. We've been back more... More

Best know for the Freight Yard Pub but the heritage museum is worth a look, especially if you like trains.

If you are a history buff, and if you are a railroad fan.... you need to visit Western Gateway. A well laid out museum with a terrific and well informed staff. This place brings you a lot of history of the North Adams area and of the Hossac Tunnel, it's construction and the ingenuity used in making a 25,000 foot... More

Well presented indoor state park presentation of the local history set in historic freightyard building. Nice exhibits and a good introduction to understanding the history of the area.

Let's just say that we were underwhelmed by MassMoCA, and eager to find something informative, fun, interesting for the remaing time we had in North Adams before returning home in the Boston suburbs. Thank goodness we had discovered the "Western Gateway Heritage State Park" on the web when planning our trip to the area. The museum is free, and gives... More

My husband and I spent two hours in the museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. It tells the fascinating story of the Hoosac Tunnel. It took about 25 years to complete this tunnel which had to be dug and blasted through the Berkshire mountains. It took MANY years for the project to begin as people tried to figure out if it...
