Great park, lots of paths, peaceful with some great views
Apr 2021
I rode my bike there, there's no bike racks unfortunately so I locked it to a street sign at the parking lot. Lots of great trails, some through the woods, some along the river, and some through remnants of gardens and past old building foundations. Beautiful and peaceful, it wasn't crowded at all on a Tuesday evening at sunset. I ran about 4 miles of trail and didn't cover it all, will definitely return!

Great place to meet for a hike during Covid summer

Went here several times to meet friend and nieces, very spacious to hike and nice river view. No entry restsrictions, ample parking in lot.

HUGE park, tons of paths to walk.
Sep 2019
We took our dog there for a big hike. The woods were amazing! We were there in late in September and prefer to go to spots where dogs can be off leash. Most all of the dogs we saw were on leash, so we made a point to go to the farthest out of the way paths that were less used to avoid any interactions with others not of this nature. I would say that trail maps (either via an app or paper at entrance) would be MUCH appreciated. This park is very large and we struggled to make our way back to the parking lot. Google maps knows the roads around the park, but not the internal paths, so it was no help.

Quirky Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show (closes 9.27.2019 @2pm)
Sep 2019 • Friends
We visited Maudslay State Park for the artist-led tour of the 20th annual Outdoor Sculpture show on view through 9.27.2019 @2pm. It's a quirky unjuried show in a beautiful park that's normally self-guided but all the nicer to hear what the artists have to say about their work. The attached photos are just two in a series of irreverent slate memorials by Michael Updike.

An oasis along the Merrimack River to walk and bird watch
Sep 2019 • Friends
It’s an old estate with Trails wandering through the woods, fields and along the river. Peaceful and beautiful. Good for a picnic or blanket nap.
Sometimes areas are roped off due to the eagles nesting.
I go every time I am in the area

Enjoyable walk, poorly marked trails
Aug 2019
Lovely area but the trails are very poorly marked. We had a map and had no idea where we were for most of the walk. They really need more signs or color code the trails, something. Eventually we did find our way out.

Can't get enough of the trails
Aug 2019
What you don't realize is the beauty in nature. I love walking the trails and I love to explore. Seeing a sunset with the Merrimack River and the trees as a backdrop is beautiful.I have been twice in the past three days. Seeing the remains of the estate and the floral gardens is beautiful and seeing nature at its best. The best for me was seeing three fawns and three doe eating near the entrance to the forest. The pictures I took were beautiful and cannot wait to go again.

Beautiful refuge for walks and beach
Jul 2019 • Friends
The refuge is open year around from sunup to sundown and there are different things to see depending on when you go and you should go no matter what the time of year. If you go mid July to mid August, you might have to deal with green heads unless it's windy. Much of the refuge beach is closed during the piping plover nesting season which is late spring through the middle of August (it depends on when the new ones have hatched and left the nest) but you can park at the first parking lot of the refuse and walk towards the beach houses along the beach for quite a distance. And after a beach walk you can drive down to where the paved road ends and take a walk (not long) to the other side of the island that faces the Parker River. Great place for birding in the morning.

Excellent place for walking
Jun 2019 • Solo
Just spent a few hours roaming the park with friends and their dog. It's a quiet and calming place with nice views of the Merrimack River. There are horse trails there as well.
