Helen's kitchen literally takes place in Helen's kitchen in her home. There were seven guests/students in total, including myself and two of my sons, and despite being in her home, there were no disturbances whatsoever. My personal main goal from this class was to learn how to cook seafood, particularly fish, so it tasted as good as it would in a first class restaurant, which mine never does. During the three hours we were there, I learned 5-6 basic but extremely important factors when cooking fish that, based on the outcome, will ramp up my seafood cooking by about 300%. It's truly amazing what a difference adding a few steps to the cooking process, and being aware of smaller factors and tricks, accomplished in the quality of the end result.
.
Regarding Helen, she nicely threaded the needle between being delightful and informative, but also staying on point, as if she were the chef in a five star restaurant and we were sub chefs. (Helen actually did most of the cooking but explained everything and let us help when possible). The best and worst parts of the entire evening were that we were able to eat our creations: Eating the fish was the best, because it was so remarkably and surprisingly good, and it was the worst, because there were no seconds (JK). I was actually full at the end of the class, but would have eaten more anyway were it available.

Helen teaches many other cooking classes too, so I’d certainly take one again, although I want to absorb the lessons from the seafood class before I move on to something else--there was a lot happening and much to remember and try, so I’m planning to read the handouts and then create the dishes myself. This fish cooking class far exceeded my expectations, and I am looking forward to applying what I learned to create first rate meals for the family.

Helen knows what she's talking about and more importantly, knows how to convey this knowledge. The recipes were challenging but doable due to the clear explanation. A good combination of taste, technique and even some explanation about the background of certain ingredients. The set up of the online lessons worked perfectly, although I had to do it on my own, but thanks to Helen's online feedback and support, I was able to improve in a short time. Other than that, Helen is very friendly. I definitely recommend these classes to anyone who likes to cook or wants to improve in the kitchen.

Helen has genuine mastery and passion, and this comes across forcefully in her classes. I learned a lot. I think she is really teaching technique, more so than how to make a certain recipe, and this is so much better. I cook quite a lot and have taken two classes (fish and pizza). My favorite was fish because I believe I have already improved my fish cookery by applying a few of the techniques that Helen gave us.

So why not five stars? My only thought here is that maybe the experience might be even better if Helen chose not to pack quite so much into the three hours, and created a little more opportunity for back and forth, although as an educator myself (coffee) I know that can be risky in terms of losing focus and control.

Thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with Helen. We learned a lot about fish selection, preparation and how to tell doneness. Helen was extremely knowledgeable and never made any of us feel like we were asking dumb questions.

During COVID times, I felt that she had made appropriate accommodations to make us feel safe.

I am looking forward to taking another class soon!

The online class exceeded my expectations. It was like inviting Helen Rennie into my home. The Zoom format addressed the questions of all course participants. Helen is personable but more importantly, she provides information and encouragement that empowers you to become a better cook. I learned so much during the course. Thank you, Helen, and see you soon! Class: Orgasmic Vegetables

I learned so much from Helen’s online pasta class I immediately signed up for her pie class. I learned more in her online class than in other chef’s face to face class. Well worth the money and you will be able to duplicate the recipes right every time. I have never been successful making pasta in the past and now I plan to make it weekly.

I’ve taken a number of Chef Helen’s classes. They are fantastic for beginners or for folks who know their way around the kitchen. She has incredible patience to answer all questions while keeping the pace of the class brisk. 3 hours of top notch cooking skills/knowledge, hands on environment and delicious food for $90? This is real value.
Btw my golf pro charges $85 for 45 mins - and I don’t get much better 😄. The amount of money I’ve saved by not ruining expensive meats / fish is worth the price of admission by itself.

I recently took my first class (and certainly not my last) with Helen. The class was Sous Vide and I loved the class. Helen herself was charming, engaging, made everybody feel welcome and most of all she is an incredible Chef. I learned so many new techniques from Helen that I am now using at home, to the delight of my family.
The class was fun, informative and the 3 hours flew by. She sent home materials and followed up with an email that gave links to anything we discussed in class.
Did I mention you also get to taste all of the food?

Helen is as great in person as she is on YouTube. Very down to earth, erasing the mysteries of cooking and lending many tips to improve the student's success back home. Only wish I lived closer to attend more classes. We're from the Seattle area, but knew we wanted to attend a class when visiting Boston. We are glad we did. Thank you, Helen.

Helen is a wonderful teacher. She explains tricks that many chefs don't think to explain because they do them naturally and without thought. I watch Helen's videos regularly on YouTube, and I still learned a great deal in this class. I have already made two of the dishes I learned how to make, and they both turned out great. I would definitely take another class with Helen in the future. Her classes are a reasonable price with great value for the money. On top of all of that, she's a warm, funny, and helpful teacher.
