Year round scenery, trails, and solitude. Another Trustees of Reservations winner!

My husband and I were there on Sunday, November 27, 2016. It is a great place to bring your family for a family walk in the woods. There are also nice picnic areas if you chose to have a picnic. We stayed along the outside of the park itself and walked close to 5 miles. The trails are all very well marked and there are maps at each trail head. You can choose how long you want to hike for. Dogs are allowed on some of the trails, not all.
There is a $5.00 parking fee if you are not a member of the Trustees

Great swimming! Great hiking! Beautiful location and so easy to get to! Good parking. They have a summer camp there. We were there as part of an outing.

I had heard Rocky Woods had boat rentals however their official website had no mention of this so I emailed the address on their website to inquire. Two days later and no response. I decided to make a trip with my son and when we got there they indeed had boats! Problem this time was the ranger left a sign saying they would be back in an hour. We didn't have an hour to wait so I left a note asking them to call my cell when they got back so I could ensure a better time to return. Two days later now and no phone call. Guess they don't want our money.

P.S. The email was finally returned as undeliverable due to connection time outs with the recipient's email server. Lovely.

I drive by Rocky woods every day on my way to work. It is down this quaint quiet little road off the main route 109. I saw a sign that said "Picnic Shelters" and just kept wondering, what are picnic shelters? Finally having some time on the weekend, myself and my three sisters decided to venture out to Rocky Woods for the day, not really knowing what to expect. It was all part of our "Exploring Medfield" day my new town that i recently moved to and was still getting to know. We paid $5 dollars to park, and away we went, following the signs to our unknown destination! After about 5 minutes in, we quickly learned that a picnic shelter is a picnic table, with a rook on it.. lol not a glamorous as i had envisioned, but still something we were excited about.. it was a huge and my first thought was, you could have a giant family cook out here and it would be Amazing! The pond is nearby for fishing, and we found a secret park that was tucked away with just a few swings and a slide. All in all we found it to be a very peaceful, beautiful place to relax and walk around on a nice day.

This place is okay for walks the Trustees rips you off on parking. And it used to be a vibrant recreation area for the people of Medfield with skating in winter and a lodge. The stuffy heads at the Trustees shut it all down and ruined it.

You might want to visit Rocky Woods. There is a variety of terrain here - hills and trails, some that meander by ponds, one with a boardwalk going across it. But, let's face it. From what I hear, before my time there were skating parties that were a gathering spot for town youth and their parents. Now the lake is full of "No Skating or Swimming" signs, which is a bummer. I'd love to have lived here when there were gatherings of people of all ages around the bonfire, when a boy might have taken a girl into the darkness to steal a kiss. There are liability issues here for the Trustees of Reservations, I'm sure, which make it impossible to do this these days.

Overall, with the overdevelopment of the area, I'm glad that someone sold or granted this land to the Trustees, and I recently thought, when I was driving by, "Thank God for the Trustees of Reservations for buying up land that otherwise might have been developed." And yes, I do support the Trustees with my membership, plus some. No complaints here, though I gave it 4 stars because there are other places that I find more interesting.

While I am totally at a loss to rationalize a rating of 4 rather than a 3 or a 5, nevertheless Rocky Woods is a great place to burn off calories on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the fall or winter. It's easy to get to, not crowded, and readily navigable with "average" as well as more challenging trails.

I love walking in Rocky Woods however I wish they did not take the swimming area away from the dogs.
The new swimming hole allocated for dogs is a very muddy area. The big body of water up by the parking area was always a wonderful place for dogs to meet and swim.
Other than that one issue… I find Rocky Woods to be a wonderful place to meet and greet other people and it is well-maintained

We are local to the area and have visited Rocky Woods on many occasions. We have noticed an increase in horse droppings/manure on the trails recently. Other than the horse issues, it is a beautiful place to hike any time of day.
