About
The American Heritage Museum at the Collings Foundation featuring the Jacques M. Littlefield Collection is a history museum chronicling the fight of the American soldier for freedom from the Revolutionary War through modern conflicts and the role that technology played in the battles fought. Told through over 85+ large artifacts throughout the 68,000 square foot museum, the AHM maintains one of the largest collection of operating tanks and military vehicles in the World from many nations including many rare examples such as a German Panther, a Russian IS-2, a U.S. M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo, an Iraqi SCUD B Missile and Launcher, and the only U.S. M1A1 Abrams tank on public museum display in the world. Visitors hear and experience the personal stories of those that fought or helped others fight through first-hand experiences like the World War I trench experience, engaging docents who were crew on tanks in modern wars, and the moving story of the crew of the M1A1 Abrams on display.

- Kelly P1 contributionCompletely awesome. Can’t wait to go againMy son wanted to go to the WWII reenactment weekend for his 21st birthday. Tank rides are amazing and the museums have so much information in them. You will need a full day if going on an event weekend.Thank you for the awesome input and review! We have an exciting summer ahead with other event weekends of all types - we hope to see you and your son again soon!Written March 5, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 10, 2023
- Les FMedway, Massachusetts1,191 contributionsA first class museum of military vehicles & equipment. This Museum is excellent. The exhibits are chronologically arranged which makes for easy viewing. The story of our veterans and history is told through a series of exhibits beginning with The Revolutionary War and ending with The War on Terrorism. The Museum is stated to be the largest and finest Museum of armored vehicles in North America, with many one of a kind displayed. Very impressive displays of tanks, aircraft, artillery and many other military vehicles. I give this one a big "thumbs-up."Thank you so much for the awesome comments and review! - Fenway1959Boston, Massachusetts714 contributionsArmor at arms length. A really fine experience.Really well done with clear explanations of each military vehicle, plane or weapons set in areas by conflict. You can take your time walking about. No rush. It was well worth it and it shows how many conflicts the US military has been involved in.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2024
- JP H4 contributionsOne of the best a must seeOne of the best military museums I have visited. Amazing attention to detail in the displays and storytelling from the American Revolution to Afghanistan. Large concentration on WWII Army tank warfare with restored German, Russian, equipment. Many special events during the year that I would return for. Amazing place. Highly recommend.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 5, 2024
- GeeBee BSomerset, Massachusetts153 contributionsGreat visit to view their enlarged static displays and also got to see actual WW2 tanks and other items in operation.Visited on their tank parade day and got to see 6-7 actual WW2/tanks in operation (and one very convincing replica). They opened their larger building since our last visit about 6 years ago and added greatly to their inventory of ground vehicles, especially tanks and half tracks. Very informative placards for the displayed items. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, recommend highly.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 25, 2024
- Shannon H3 contributionsIncredible!I cannot recommend this place enough. I took my 10 year old son to the WWII weekend because he is a tank/military fan and he left saying “This was the best day of my life!”. I am decidedly NOT a history/military buff and even I was fascinated by the exhibits. The staff and volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and they go out of their way to ensure you have a memorable experience. If you’re on the fence, this is your sign to visit!!!!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 27, 2024
- KidsalotVerona, New Jersey17 contributionsWar enthusiast ? Great museum to visit. Get up close to the vehicles used in combatLooking to be able to see Tanks and vehicles used during different wars and to learn a little about them? How about driving or riding in a tank? A bonus is to view vintage planes and Automobles. This trip will not disappoint for any war time enthusiast. We happened to book driving the sherman tank and exploring these things on Memorial day weekend, which is a special event day there and were not disappointed at all, everyone had a great time. No matter when you schedule your visit you will enjoy it, but scheduling a visit on the weekends that have special events makes your visit that much better.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 27, 2024
- Gundoctor 913ALexington, South Carolina431 contributionsAmazing Museum!!!My wife took me here for my birthday a few years ago. I was extremely impressed with this museum! Every piece of equipment they have is completely restored, and a lot of them still function. There are dozens of life-size dioramas throughout the museum, and it is absolutely packed with various military equipment and vehicles. This museum has the only fully restored German Panther Tank on this side of the planet. In addition to the military part of the museum, there is also a antique car collection as well as an aviation facility. Words cannot explain how awesome this museum is! I cannot recommend this museum enough! It is absolutely amazing!Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 23, 2024
- Maps083378290421 contributionWorth it - a hidden gem, indeed!I took my 14 year old boys and met their cousins, who had already been once. Although the artifacts and videos are incredible, it's the docents who are the real heroes. Most of them are vets, all were helpful and knowledgeable. This was an excellent day trip and I'd highly recommend it for anyone even remotely interested in US History.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 27, 2024

A fantastic museum. Well thought out with photography in mind. An amazing collection of vehicles, particularly U.S. I took two of the tank rides, and they were well worth the price. I would (and do) recommend this museum to any and all, especially World War II history buffs. Two thumbs up!

Drove for over 4 hours from central/south Jersey to see tanks and military machinery because one of my sons loves it. He was extremely happy and satisfied after visit. I was pleasantly surprised to actually see Soviet Union/Russian tanks from WW2, People who work in this museum are very helpful it does feel that they really want to share with you everything that they know and answer to all of your questions. Museum is not crowded so if someone is concerned about social distancing, this place is good.
If you like military technology and tanks I will recommend.

Well worth a trip to the countryside. The museum tells an epic story of American history through a professional presentation worthy of a "Band of Brothers" film set along with a superb collection of meticulously restored/preserved combat vehicles.
Of interest to all from casual history buff to expert, young people will especially enjoy the large vehicles / tanks and enjoy some of the Hollywood like special effects

I have always loved tanks, especially the M4 Sherman. I have been trying to find a way to get inside one for decades. The American Heritage Museum provided me with that opportunity and then some! I paid the fee to have instructions on driving the tank and then I got to drive around a track on the property for twenty minutes. It was more fun than you can imagine. They have modified their tank so that there are dual controls in it so the instructor can control the tank too, you know just like driving school when you were a teenager, but a lot more fun.
The museum itself has the best display of tanks and armored vehicles I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of displays over the years. The staff is enthusiastic and knowledgeable and eager to provide you with all the little details about each display.

This was such an amazing museum. My dad and I went yesterday during his day off and it was a great day spent. Each room led you through each war with a little film. Then all of a sudden a set of doors opened and all of a sudden you saw this beautiful room with 30+ tanks, planes, other artifacts. Every volunteer was so nice and knowledgeable and it made the experience that much better. I would highly recommend coming here if you’re a history buff or just love museums in general!

This was their first Revolutionary War re enactment. It seemed very well organized. They did have to cut it a bit short due to excessive heat. But frankly I was surprised they had it. The museum is also first rate and displays mostly armored vehicles and aircraft.

Saw an advertisement describing the American Heritage Museum and being a veteran and also a volunteer at a couple of museums, I thought I'd check this one out. I'm glad I did. They recommend 2-3 hrs to take it all in and that time will go by very quickly. The equipment is in operable condition. The guides are excellent. They have excellent video documentaries.I'm told it is one of the world's largest collections of tanks and military vehicles.

This is the best memorial museum we have ever been to. Period. The message throughout the presentation is just though provoking and immense. For a veteran it creates emotion and memories of standing sohoulder to shoulder with the ghosts of the past. This is a legacy for future generations of the sacrifices made. Everyone must come and visit this amazing place. Five stars is not enough...

Gifted hubby a tank driving experience for this birthday and he was THRILLED! He drove a M-24 tank in their open field, then tested his agility via the obstacle course. A fun once in a lifetime experience! The museum also has an amazing collection of tanks, planes, trucks to explore including a M1A1 Abrams. Well worth a visit. We have also viewed a WWII re-enactment in October of 2019 and that was incredible. Highly recommend this gem of a museum!

A group of us had a private tour with the marketing director, Hunter. With us was a WW2 Veteran who is about to be 100 years old. Although the museum was closed they allowed us to spend roughly 3 hours observing the displays. The place is fantastic and worth the visit.

We plan to go to the WWII Re-enactment on Oct.12/13 and also to the museum. Are there facilities onsite for eating? Also are the Classic Car Barn and the Hanger included in the admission price?
Written August 25, 2019
No on site facilities for eating. I plan to go back to see the reenactment. I talked to staff about it they say it is amazing. Not only does the museum bring out their tanks but many people bring out there own private collection. They all said it is a must see
