Last week my family attended a performance of, "Out of Sterno". Not only is the theatre a wonderful venue with excellent seating throughout, but the performance, casting and overall experience was simply outstanding! It's easy to get to and ample public parking is right around the corner (some on the street as well).

My wife and I enjoy an Sunday afternoon performance of Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris. This performance took some of the wonderful songs by Jacques Brel and treated the full house to 2 hours of pure delight. The venue is intimate and there is not a bad seat in the house. The company stayed after the performance for a question and answer/ meet and greet session. This was a nice experience and the audience fully participated - some great observations and thought provoking questions. If you are in the area don't miss this chance to see first class theater.

While in Gloucester for a few days, we decided to spend an evening at the Gloucester Stage Company. The play being performed was Alan Ayckbourn's "Round and Round the Garden." We've always enjoyed theater in NYC and at home.....but we had no idea what a treat we were in for.

The cast included Sarah Newhouse, Barlow Adamson, Steven Barkhimer, Richard Snee, Lindsay Crouse and Adrianne Krstansky. If you are a theater-goer, or watch TV, you would be familiar with all of them.

Their performances were marvelous and it was the funniest play I've seen in years. We laughed from the time the play started to the very closing curtain. It was one of the best evenings we spent in Gloucester!

And it's not only the cast that were excellent. The staff of the theater were warm and welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the theater, it's history and it's future plans. We wish them all the luck in their renovating plans for the future. When they are finished, they will be the "gem" of Gloucester.

Maybe it's just a small city theatre, but what they turn out is far more than that. Some good playwrights and wonderful actors make this stage company a destination. Do yourself a favor and suscribe for the season, prices are reasonable and if you are a resident there are price reductions....go see some theatre this summer!

Gloucester Stage has been around decades and consistently presents serious (and sometimes funny) legit Equity theater. They do classics, premieres, even an occasional musical, so there's something for everyone.

Recommend this to anyone. Handicap accessible. We saw a production of a nostalgic play about WW II era individuals attempting to reconcile themselves with their young adult selves. Two British actors and Two American actors. Very, very professional. Nice nostalgic set. I can't say enough for this theater in terms of comfort for the audience. Will go back.

Gloucester stage company offer wonderful and professional performances at a cost that is affordable. The staff is friendly and the productions breath taking. It is very close to niles beach and the rocky neck art colony. I would highly recommend a dinner out on rocky neck and then a show. Visitor's should be sure to check out the view of the inner harbor from behind the theater. The building it's self used to be a fish packing plant but since then has been turned in to a delightful black box theater. Locals should check the website to look for the pay what you can nights. One challenge is parking. Handicap parking is made available near the theater but parking can other wise me spares. The shows are well rounded and range from light hearted to dark and like all good theater company ask the audience to refelct on the going ons in the world. Gloucester stage is an important part of what makes Gloucester an arts community. I know that I would highly recommend Gloucester Stage Company to all vistors and locals alike.

Intimate stage setting.

First rate productions and performers (e.g., Lindsay Crouse)

Good drinks bar.

Feels like you are right in the middle of the performance.

Parking can be an issue.

Gloucester Stage is a precious part of the Gloucester community. We have had a season subscription for five or six years, and have never once been disappointed with a performance. The acting is world class (almost all are Actor's Equity members), with lengthy Broadway, off Broadway, movie and TV credits. The theater is small and intimate, and every production is characterized by inventive use of props, lighting, and sets. It is the best bargain in Gloucester, and maybe in the theater world. Go!
