My young teen daughters and I popped into this studio to check out the paintings and were forever changed by the grace and patience shown by the artist as she shared her passion and explained her process to my inquisitive daughters. Although we weren’t able to purchase any of the gorgeous works of art that day the experience cultivated a budding appreciation for fine art within my daughters. After walking through and discussing what they saw and pointing out their favorites we were greeted by the artist who answered all of their questions. She showed us her work area as well as her husbands and she described their different styles of painting. She showed us her current painting and explained what and how she works on different paintings. My daughters and I were captivated by her words, her art, and her studio.

Osborn & Rugh Gallery Review

My husband recently gifted me a commissioned oil painting of teacups. Although I don’t drink tea, I have a long-standing fondness and a collection of a few dozen teacups. All have meaning and a deep sentimental value to me. We came to know both Doug and Hillary when we wandered into their gallery in Falmouth, MA a few years ago and purchased one of Doug’s pieces. Having been in their gallery several times since, we both knew that Doug would be the artist that would paint such an important piece. His special talent as an artist was going to be the perfect match for this commission

I now own the most stunning piece of art titled, “Teacups”. I was able to choose my favorite pieces and work closely with Doug on exactly what I wanted. Doug was wonderful to work with and it was a dream project for me. His wife, Hilary, even played a part in the painting! After our initial project meeting, Doug emailed me a few mock-ups so I could see what he had in mind. He took my voluminous notes and created a few compositions. From there it was a true collaboration and I enjoyed every minute of the project. Doug was patient, kind and extremely responsive to any questions or inquires I may have had. It would have been easy to “direct” this piece, but Doug has my utmost respect and so I trusted his amazing artistry to do the piece justice. He knows what works, what doesn’t and how to achieve all kinds of particulars within a painting. His attention to detail is impressive.

This project was a dream and I would absolutely do it all again. I would also recommend Doug and Hillary as artists. In addition to being just lovely people, they have the most warm, intimate gallery with an abundance of just beautiful, original pieces. I would encourage anyone to drop by the gallery…you will not be disappointed. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet either Doug or Hillary!

This is a good gallery, and friendly too! Plenty of local scenes and a few that I could afford. I have several pieces that I am considering for my study. Of course, I have been considering them for several years now! Maybe this time I will take the plunge.

What should one take home following a vacation on the Cape? For me the choice was easy. I wanted something meaningful that would last, not another tee shirt or bag. The gallery is amazing and while looking closely at the paintings I could recognize some of the beaches I visited and sites I had seen. It was like visiting a top-notch museum, but a small one where all the paintings are in one room. I talked to Hilary, one of the two painters who runs the place, and she was extremely nice. So in a sense, it was like visiting a museum and talking to the artist. Definitely a place I would return to during my next visit to Falmouth!

In an area that abounds with fine artists and craftspeople, the Osborn & Rugh Gallery more than holds its own. It is owned and operated by two painters, an extremely talented couple named Hillary Osborn and Doug Rugh. Osborn does mainly landscapes and seascapes – Falmouth and its beautiful environs provide endless opportunities for them. Rugh’s subjects are more diverse; they include portraits, interiors, seashells, and animals. They’ve both received critical acclaim and won a number of awards, deservedly. Their Gallery makes for fascinating exploration. You may not go there intending to buy a work of art but wind up doing so anyway – it happened to us twice.

This art gallery is really enjoyable. Both husband and wife are talented highly proliferation artists. They are very interesting and pleasant people as well. I love to wonder through the gallery. Our home has many of their pieces hanging in almost every room. Doug is the MOST amazing portrait artist. If you want an exquisite portrait of someone- or your dog- he is the best!

This art gallery is on the corner of Palmer Ave and the Queens Buyway, next to Coffee Obsession, so you can admire the art of Osborn & Rugh, then go next door to relax. This husband-wife team are both widely recognized for their talents, even in a crowded market like Cape Cod. Their works are priced accordingly, but any buyer should appreciate whatever they buy as an investment. Besides that, the gallery is enjoyable in its own right.
