We were told at our resort that this falls was hard to find. On the contrary, we had no trouble. A short stretch of dirt road leads to a parking lot on the right. You can hear the falls when you get out of the car. The walk down the hill from the parking lot is a little steep, but a very short hike to the falls. Absolutely beautiful! Pleasantly surprised.

This was the third waterfall we visited that day and was by far the easiest to get to and easiest trail to walk. They did have a bathroom area at the entrance and picnic tables and grills closer to the waterfall. There were lots of huge river rocks for our kids to climb around on and explore which they loved. It is a beautiful little spot. There was a pool at the base of the fall though there were signs saying swimming was not allowed.

There was no one around when we arrived, so we had plenty of time to explore and take photos.

The main waterfall is pretty, although probably more interesting when there is more waterflow. It is a very short walk from the car park to the waterfall.

There is a longer trail that goes along the stream leading the waterfall, and my family walked it. The trail is not marked, but it is easily identifiable based on looking at the ground. There are lots of spider webs along the trail, so make sure to watch where you are walking.

My daughter is somewhat adventurous, and she had fun climbing on rocks and fallen trees. There are numerous ways down to the stream (although most of them are steep) along the trail.

If you have time, I recommend visiting!

Wahconah Falls is located just half a mile off route 9 on the west side of Dalton. We live close by and frequently take our family and friends to see the beautiful falls only 2 miles from our home. There is ample free parking available. The State Park is unattended and a trail walk of several hundred yards from the parking to the falls is necessary. When the water is high the falls are spectacular and the loud roar can be heard all the way to the parking lot. Last summer with our drought here in western MA the falls were a tame and quiet version of what we normally encounter. Swimming and wading in the pool below the falls is allowed. But the most pleasant activity for me is quiet time in the presence of the clear rushing water.

This is an AWESOME waterfall if you're there after the snowmelt or after a lot of rainfall. It was epic after Hurricane Irene. The pictures I posted were from late April after a pretty snowless winter. Last summer during the drought, it was pretty unimpressive. So bear this in mind before driving any great distance to visit. It is not handicapped accessible by any stretch of the imagination. To get a decent glimpse of it, you must hike a short while (fine for little kids) but there are steep, muddy hills. The rock climbing here is fun. When I was a kid you could swim here. But there have been many drunken diving accidents. Bring lunch. It's a great place for a picnic. Because it's very shady, this is a nice cool spot on a hot day. Bring bug spray. It can be pretty buzzy here.

This was a lovely place to sit in the forest overlooking a waterfall. It's not a major hike and it's very hard to find - but we were glad we finally found it.

The big feature of this state park are the falls. Always pretty, during the snow melt the falls are magnificent. Take North Street off Route 9 just after the Dalton line if you are coming from the east, the parking lot is less than a mile off the highway on the right [the dirt road is a little dicey at times [mud season] but trust me, you won't regret the bouncing. There is a short walk on mostly smooth terrain to the falls. There are a few picnic tables and a couple of charcoal grills near the falls. Bring bug spray.

No signs, no directions, no nuthun'. A local directed us to an empty parking lot. We couldn't see the falls, and the leaves covered any trails. We weren't about to go wandering through the woods in search of the falls we didn't even know existed.

I visited on October 28, 2014.
If you're using a GPS be forewarned: both my Garmin and built into my Prius GPS brought me to a place on the highway not near the entrance. You must look for a small side on the northbound side, that says "Wahconah Falls 1 m" and has an arrow. You then take that small, narrow road up to the falls.
The concierge at my resort, Wyndham Bentley Brook, told me to skip this and instead go to Bash Bish Falls. Well, I went anyway, and I'm not sorry. Drive in, park, take a short walk up to the falls. And that's about it. But it's beautiful and peaceful.
