Gorgeous and fun waves to frolic
Jun 2021
Great place to go with kids. Shallow ocean pools for playing and sheltered areas away from the waves. However, if surfing among the waves is your thing, walk to the shoreline for fun.

Very Nice Beach!
Jul 2019 • Couples
This was a really nice place to swim! Lots of warm, very shallow water. Gentle waves to play in too. Tidal pools and Marsh areas to paddle board, kayak or explore as well. At first I didn't want to go in the water due to the shark warning sign, but that is on every beach on the Cape, and it is the ocean. I know the Nantucket Sound is supposed to be quite safe for swimming, compared to the Atlantic ocean side. Definitely worth a visit on a hot day! We will definitely go back.

A real beach for all ages and it's free
Jun 2019 • Family
Lots of sand and ocean for the big guys and tidal pools for the little guys to play in and catch crabs at low tide. It's a real old-fashioned beach with a foot bridge across the tidal creek. No amenities - just a parking lot (get a beach pass or pay the daily fee or have someone shuttle you back and forth). Bring your own fun and food, although there is a snack shack nearby that we found to be expensive. We had a great week here on the beach on all the sunny days and one overcast day and so close to our rental. When we were there not a lot of folks knew about this place - a good thing.

Nice soft sand. Family friendly. Nice area for little kids. Rentals and snack bar on site. Lots of seaweed, I know it's a beach but other beaches are not this bad. Also no cleaning station to rinse off

Decent beach with paddle board rentals nearby

Lots of seaweed but it's the beach! Tide pools are good for the kids to play in. My biggest compliant -- There was no fresh water rinse down to get cleaned up.

Beach is clean now

The rake has finally gotten to Ridgevale!!! Late June it was a mess when we were down for a long weekend. The rake can only get to Ridgevale from Cockle Cove. Just last week enough sand had been pumped onto Cockle Cove to allow that to happen. Friday of last week it was cleared of all the seaweed

Not for swimming but tidepools are great!
Jul 2018 • Couples
Definitely trust the reviews - this is not a beach for swimming. The tidepool / river is great for kids to explore and find hermit crabs and shells. We stayed here for two hours and headed to another beach for swimming.

Beach has changed since last year
Jul 2018 • Family
So since Cockle Cove Beach eroded due to the storms in March, the mechanical rakers no longer have access to clear the seaweed on Ridgevale. I went there for the first time this year and it was pretty awful. I felt badly for the people who lugged all their beach gear to the waters edge only to leave upon seeing and smelling the really gross seaweed. The seaweed is quite thick and takes up a good portion of the beach. They are issuing refunds to people at the hut but a heads up upon entering would have been nice. I asked the man at the shack what was up with all the seaweed and I received the snarky reply, "It's the sea." Upon further prompting, he was ble to communicate the above. I feel badly for the snack shack and rental business there but I would not recommend this beach for a vacation destination. So many sad families turning around and leaving...

Nice for Families
Sep 2017 • Solo
This is the beach I grew up going to and I still love it. This is more of a family oriented beach than a party spot.

The beach has two sides, the ocean front one and a more protected inlet. The protected area has very gentle waters and is great for little kids. Each summer you see kids having a blast with their fishing nets and building sand castles.

There is even a snack bar by this beach which is great and super convenient for grabbing a bite to eat.

Parking costs are steep during the peak season if you don't own property and can't pick up a resident sticker for your car. One week of parking is $75 or $20 a day for non-residents.

There are 2 bridges to access this beach, one by the parking lot and the other on a nearby side street.

One negative to this beach is the portapotties, but it's better than nothing.

Beautiful beach - needs attention for handicapped
Sep 2017 • Couples
This beach is picturesque. It has tide pools that the small children really enjoy, and the bay is back to back with the pools. It's funny to see everyone facing whichever way as they focus on whichever beach.

There's a snack bar associated with the beach that serves some really well-cooked food (the onion rings were delicious!). The owner/manager is delightful and very kind and helpful, and it's clean and well-organized.

The problem for the handicapped is the distance to the bay beach from the ramp. It would be so helpful if there were a handicapped mat (blue weaved mat) to help. Also they do not have bathrooms - there are porta-potties. I did not investigate, but the visible ones didn't look handicap accessible.

We enjoyed our visit, and we'll go again. We'll just take it slow in the sand.
