Description:

The Orpheum Theater opened in 1916 as Chatham's first and only movie house....

The Orpheum Theater opened in 1916 as Chatham's first and only movie house. Our Main Street movie theater was a magical place for 72 years - a year-round destination where generations of Chatham families and summer visitors could enjoy gripping dramas, slapstick comedies, joyous musicals or swashbuckling adventure films week after week. In 1938, the building was purchased by Interstate Theaters Corporation and was known as the Chatham Theater until 1987, when it ceased operations.

The entire town mourned the loss of this iconic Main Street treasure, but the tradition was never forgotten. Now it's back, better than ever!

The return of the Chatham Orpheum Theater began in November 2011, when a grass roots movement formed a non-profit organization to buy the historic building at 637 Main Street in April 2012 and restore it as a state-of-the-art two-screen cinema featuring an attendant cafe in 2013. Led by president Naomi M. Turner and a local team of volunteer professionals, Chatham Orpheum Theater, Inc. has raised more than $3.6 Million in donations from individual citizens and private foundations, plus major grants from the Town of Chatham and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

The Chatham Orpheum Theater opened to the public as a non-profit cinema on July 26, 2013 ... bringing movies back to Main Street in the most state-of-the-art movie theater on Cape Cod.

Every facet of this jewel box movie house and cultural center is unique, affordable, and community driven. The Orpheum is a quality cinema with two screens with 3-D capability, 6.1 SurroundSound(C) audio, and extremely comfortable seats with widely-spaced aisles. We feature first-run major motion pictures plus art house films, independent productions and documentaries, including locally-produced films. In addition, the Orpheum offers creative alternative programming for children, elders, and families.

You'll find all the traditional concessions (including popcorn with real butter!) plus a delightful array of unique treats created by local Chatham confectioners. Movie-goers may also enjoy a glass of wine or beer from Vers at the Orpheum, our lobby cafe boasting a full menu of exceptional offerings with an emphasis on natural, seasonal, local ingredients ... utilizing what is flavorful and familiar to the contemporary palate.

The Orpheum's interior is tastefully designed in traditional Cape Cod style, and the vaulted lobby showcases great works of created by notable local artists, including Hans de Castellane's signature mural, The After Party.

We had a very enjoyable time. The atmosphere was friendly. The space was clean and the seats very comfortable. I am not a movie person but I would go back and plan to bring my grandchildren.

A little dark and depressing but incredibly well acted. The Orpheum Theater is simply THE BEST! Fantastically comfortable seating, great sound system (no hearing aids needed!) and even a little bistro for ordering sandwiches and wine.

Pleasant theater experience. Fabulous atmosphere, the wall mural is fantastic. Food delicious. The best movies. No, that's a big no, old theater popcorn smell!

While in Chatham over the new year we did have one very rainy afternoon. So, it's off to the movies. Saw Manchester By The Sea in this marvelous, comfortable and cozy revamped theater. The Orpheum was once a very popular destination, but fell in to disrepair and became a CVS of all things. It was brought back to life three... More

I loved this movie and the entire layout of the theater. The seating was super with plenty of leg room and every seat had a great access to the screen

The Chatham Orpheum Theater and Cafe makes going to the movies what it should be! The theater itself is comfortable, but it's the small size, the bar with top-shelf cocktails and tasty bites, and the atmosphere surrounding all that makes this a real night-out experience. My husband and I went on a Wednesday evening, and not surprisingly for a mid-week... More

My wife and I stopped by on Saturday 11/19 to take a break. The lobby of the theater has a small bar for alcoholic drinks and coffee. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but my wife said that her coffee was one of the best cups of coffee that she's ever had, Well done Jonathan!

This cozy and clean theatre was more than we expected! Adorable and clean inside, a liquor licence and a great snack bar! Such a nice way to end a Sunday night!

The theater is very nice, but small. We did not get to see the movie we had planned to, tickets for the 7:15pm show had sold out by 1:00pm. The bar looked inviting while we waited for our second choice movie. Did I really just pay $17 for a glass of pinot noir at a movie theater??? We were not... More

Visited this cinema twice whilst on vacation - never crowded, comfortable seats with great view of the screen. Bar and basic meals available and reasonably priced - great environment to see the latest film, staffed by local volunteers (?) And renovated following local donations, great venue.
