Lighthouses are always wonderful to see and Chatham Lighthouse is just beautiful. Guided tours are available from time to time so check and see if you are lucky enough to go on one. We weren't that lucky but it was a pleasure to see this beautiful structure that continues to be a working US Coast Guard facility.

We were there off season so you could not gain access to the grounds but the lighthouse was easily viewed and photographed even though the grounds are fenced and weren't currently open during our visit. Suprising that the lighthouse is built across the road from the water so it is difficult to get a photo that includes the water.

We got to view the lighthouse during our visit to the beach across the street. This is a very impressive structure. Clearly it is an attraction of interest by others. The day we arrived most all of the parking spaces were taken with people here for the Lighthouse.

After lunch we walked around Chatham and then drove over to the Light. We took a walk down to the left by a private club and walked a couple miles to the yacht club, circled back and walked the beach back to the Light. A super good walk and good way to see the Light from the beach.

The lighthouse and its lifesaving ships are justifiably famous. The lighthouse is beautiful with a gorgeous ocean view across the street.

You get a free guided tour on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday in Oct. The only other meritorious reason for visiting is the US coast guard boat to look at. It's not the most likeable of light houses on the Cod but worth a visit as it's near the now disused 3 sisters lighthouses.

The lighthouse is located acreoss the road from the beach. It was not open when we were there, but it was still a pleasure to view.

Luckily we arrived while free tours of lighthouse were conducted by retired Coast Guard personnel on a Wednesday (tours 11 am - 3:30 pm). Great view of the Atlantic and sand bars, which had hundreds of seals and thousands of birds the overcast, windy day that we visited. Bring your binoculars, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Walk on the... More
