Built in the 1800's, our "Art Barn" exudes a cool artistic vibe. With its paint stained walls and doors, the wide plank wood floors, and exposed wooden rafters above, this special building says "art" to all who enter through its inviting red doors. Since we enjoy really good black and white photography, we took notice of the work of Bobby Baker in a magazine that featured artists on Cape Cod. A visit to his inviting web site revealed some interesting work and so we decided to visit his gallery. The gallery is located in a small old barn adjacent to his house along route 28A just north of Falmouth Massachusetts (in Cataumet). The barn itself is interesting and is filled with his photography and the work of (at the time we visited) two other artists (painters).
Bobby Baker does black and white and also Color photography. The color work we saw at the gallery was landscape work, with seascapes and sunsets. But, there was more to it than the routine color that one might readily capture oneself if one happened to be at the right place at the right time. Instead, the eye of a real photographer was evident, with thoughtful and careful composition and experienced use of the available light.
A major part of his work in the gallery was black and white – which seems to be a real love of his. There was a substantial variety of work – from minimalist seascapes with very subtle tonality to more dramatic work with substantial well-controlled contrast. Again there, the keen eye of the photographer was evident, an eye that recognized opportunities and utilized real expertise to capture and then present the image. I often look into an image to see if I can feel what the photographer might have felt. I was moved by some of what I saw.
If you are a bit north of Falmouth this is a very interesting and worthwhile gallery to visit. And, if you take the time to engage a bit, you will find Bobby Baker to be a warm and friendly fellow, one who is more than happy to chat about his work and photography in general. We look forward to a return visit.

This gem of a gallery is on 28A north of Falmouth and not hard to locate – look for the “Art” and “Open” signs on the left side of the road if you are heading south. We have stopped several times and love the nautically themed photography that adorns the 19th century barn. Truly, it is a place to relax and enjoy fine art. Bobby Baker is an award-winning artist, who offers something special in his work. Many of the pieces I saw on display really “spoke to me,” awakened introspection and offered a personal connection. While clearly a Baker gallery, with an emphasis on his photography, the unique space also includes contributions from one or two other local artists, nicely rounding out the feel of the Art Barn. I found Bobby to be personable, pleasant in conversation and very engaging, and he was able to guide us through some of his other work not on display. (As lovely as it is, the comforting gallery only can display a small portion of Bobby Baker’s outstanding work). An easy and satisfying stop, even if only for a few minutes, into another time and an artist’s perspective.

Whether you are coming or going to the cape a visit to this gallery is a must stop. The quaint roadside barn which has been converted into a fine art studio features epic scenes of the Cape Code land and seascape as seen through the eyes of the award-winning photographer Babby Baker. The shop offers a variety of price points so that people on any budget can take a piece of the Cape home with them. We purchased a couple of original prints and photography greeting cards which will make great gifts. As an added bonus you will most likely be able to discuss the work the artist himself. The shop also offers paintings from other local artists as well.

If you are traveling along 28A, keep an eye out for a big "ART" sign and the "Open" flag. You don't want to miss this lovely barn from the 1800s featuring some of the most dramatic seascape photographs I have ever seen. The owner/photographer Bobby Baker was actually in the barn when we arrived and we had a very interesting chat about the property and his striking fine art photography. This gallery is definitely a "must see" when visiting Cape Cod.

I saw his work at an art show in Marblehead. I was instantly taken back by his work and have been a fan ever since.
I was looking forward to the gallery opening this spring,it was everything I was hoping for and more!
There is so much to take in,his work done in metal will leave you wondering if you have enough wall space for all your favorites.The black and white also leaves me wondering the same.If you can ever break away for a few moments and visit this Oasis, your only regret will be not enough room in the car for all that capture your heart!
I can't wait for my next road trip to Bobby Baker Gallery 😁

Bobby Baker’s Gallery is a treasure in Cataumet, Massachusetts. If you live on Cape Cod or plan a visit to the area, I highly recommend this gallery located in a quaint restored barn. Bobby Baker is a professional photographer and sells his photographic works in the gallery. His work is stunning and shows a preference for black and white photography. His photography clearly shows his professional skill and passion. In addition to his selection of photography, Bobby also carries the art of a few local artists. Their original art works are very eye-catching, and several have found their way into my home.
I have visited the Bobby Baker Gallery several times over the past year and always look forward to my next visit to see what new items Bobby has in his inventory, as well as to talk art and photography with him. He is a great photographer and loves to talk about art and his passion for photography!
