Shoe-horned in between private beaches, this public beach is rarely crowded. But you get all the beauty of the Bay: sunsets to die for, flats in low tide which enable you to walk 100s of yards out. Views of sail boats and motor boats moored about 100 yards out, sunbathers, kids playing...there's parking for about 20 cars, and a portapotty.

We went to Breakwater Beach several times over a week. It is a little less than a half mile from the Brewster General Store, with a good amount of parking (you need to purchase a pass to park in the summer, we just walked from our inn). At low tide, the water recedes about a mile, leaving lots of area for walking. Although the beach area is not huge it was not very crowded while we were there. The beach was clean and they have some porta-potties by the parking lot. Some days, an ice cream truck comes by but there aren't concessions or other facilities. One evening we saw a beautiful sunset from the beach.

Beautiful, quiet, not crowded... It helps to know the timing of tides so that you can plan to be there at a time when the tide is at the levels that you prefer.

We really liked this beach. During high tide, there were waves big enough for older kids to enjoy and during low tide you could walk out a significant distance to sandbars and tidal pools. Great for playing beach games. There are portable toilets but no other amenities so pack a cooler. Parking is limited, recommended getting there early.

Amazing opportunity to walk up to 2 miles on the ocean bottom during low tide, gorgeous. The views were stunning!

Best beaches on the Cape are in Brewster. Enjoy the Brewster Flats and just a day on the beach. Low and Mid Tide is the best time, just check tide charts.

Cars are limited due to COVID, but the beach is open to the public after 4 PM daily. Otherwise it's only open to residents of Brewster.

This is a favorite Brewster beach with families swimming, Paddle-boarders with their dogs along for the ride and plenty of parking. When the tide is in, the water is warm. When the tide is out, roaming on the flats is fun, relaxing way to spend some quality beach time.

OK, so none of the bay beaches will compare to East Coast ocean beaches from NJ to Fla. But they are interesting and unique at low tide, when you can walk out for hundreds of yards in ankle-deep water. Breakwater has one of the bigger parking lots, a portapot, and a moderate amount of space, depending on the crowd. But all the bay beaches are about a block long and then stop for "private" beaches, so it generally feels crowded.

Breakwater Beach is a great find, just down the side street in Brewster. We rode bikes and there was plenty of space to park them on the rack. We saw many people had left their shoes at the entry to the beach, which made us feel very safe stepping away from our beach chairs or other items.
The Bay was such a wonderful sight at low tide, allowing us to walk for at least a mile to a sand bar. This seemed like a great location for families, beach wise, because many children were playing in the small tidal pools, swimming, or catching sand crabs. It's important to note that there were only two portable toilets. One was handicapped accessible. Also, there is a lovely pre-made path made out of some sort of "mesh" material that rests on the sand making it easy to get from your car to the beach and vice versa.
I would recommend coming here if you're seeking an oasis. There are parts of the beach that are private, but we had no problem finding a slice of heaven.
