After dining at Uno Pizzeria & Grill near the Granite Street entrance, we did some shopping at South Shore Plaza, a Simon Property.

It had been several years since I’d last visited this shopping mall. Things had changed a bit. A second story had been added as well as expansions.

The mall had well over 100 stores and about two dozen restaurants and snack places. In the years since I’d last visited, it had become New England’s largest shopping mall. A visit here could turn into an all-day excursion.

It had higher-end anchor stores that included Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor.

More common stores included Coach, Lands’ End, Old Navy, Disney Store, J. Jill, Aéropostale, Clarks, Forever 21, Abercrombie & Fitch, Macy's, Sears, Build-A-Bear, Hollister, Primark, J. Crew, PacSun, Foot Locker, Brookstone, American Eagle Outfitters, The North Face, Newbury Comics, Finish Line, Yankee Candle, Claire’s, PINK, Victoria’s Secret, DSW, and many more.

We shopped at Target, Bath & Body Works, and CVS.

There are numerous restaurants. Some, like Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, offer fine dining. The Noodle Station, Dave & Buster's, Red Robin, The Cheesecake Factory, and 99 Restaurant and Pub offer more mid-priced casual dining.

We rate South Shore Plaza at 5.0. We recommend shopping and eating here.

As someone who has shopped at the South Shore Plaza for many years I can say that there has been a steady decline in the upkeep of several stores there. Macy's is atrocious! The customer service leaves a lot to be desired (not enough help) and the dressing rooms are deplorable. Many of the stores seem to need a facelift ( Bath & Body Works for one) and others are just plain messy. It's a shame because it used to be a wonderful mall but it seems like the Simon Property Group can't keep up with it.

It's easy to get to this mall - get the red line to Braintree and then get the local bus or a cab (about 10 dollars) The mall is set over 2 floors. Larger stores include Macys, Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom and Sears and the usual J Jill, Hollister, Victoria's Secret etc. Plenty of places to eat - a foodcourt and also others around the mall including Au Bon Pain, Starbucks, Cheesecake Factory and Joe's Diner.

I spent my entire childhood and teen years going to the plaza. I grew up in Braintree and it was a great place to go shopping or get food at a restaurant or the food court. Within the past 7 years or so it has gone so downhill it’s so disappointing. The stores have slowly been dwindling which I understand is from people doing more online shopping. However the security needs to step it up on the gangs hanging out here. I would never feel safe in here again. I go to the anchor stores now if I have to. I would never go into the actual mall itself again. People allowing their kids to learn how to walk in the middle of the mall, huge groups of teenagers walking right into you, yelling, running...when I was a teenager we would be scolded by security if we did any of those thing. We weren’t even allowed to walk in big groups. They would tell us we needed to break up into smaller groups. Time for a change

The mall is spacious, two levels, closed and decorated. It houses most of the leading stores / big chain Stores like Nordstrom, Macy's, Sears, Lego store, Apple Store, Aldo, Lord & Taylor, Target,

The Mall remains active till late in the evening say 9 PM with lots of people around. Weather it is shopper’s friendly or no, cannot be said as the prices appeared to be on higher side.

We did not find any movie theatre at this mall. May be a possible inclusion/addition in future.
It also has a large food court that has sufficient and comfortable seating in its center. It has a good choice of vendors but the Indian Stuff is missing! It has Thai Kitchen, Japan food and sandwiches / pizzas

Cheesecake Factory is also adjacent to the mall.

Sufficient parking space is available but it can be a bit challenging during weekends and long holidays.

Out of all the malls in MA, I feel that this is one of the best. There are a lot of great food choices, a wide selection of stores for people of all ages (which is very important) and there is a ton of parking, which makes visiting so easy.

It is also so easy to get to since it is right off the highway. Any time we come here, we always seem to leave with something.

A visit to Braintree’s South Shore Plaza can be a fun, if overwhelming experience, depending personal variables. It is truly a destination and has everything that Minneapolis’ Mall of America has - except for the roller-coaster!
If your goal is simply to make a purchase or two, I suggest an incisional strike : Park outside your targeted destination and avoid the actual mall. BUT, if you truly want to savor the mall experience in all its sights, sounds, smells, flavors, and MERCHANDISE choices, there is no better place to go!
Anchor stores include Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, (higher end department stores), Target and Sears (more affordable) and everything in between. There is a food court with all the usual suspects plus a Cheese Cake Factory, 99, Legal Seafood, and other restaurants attached to the mall. Across the street you will find more shops and a giant cinema multiplex.
You won’t be bored!

It is always sad to see a mall in decline. South Shore Plaza is no exception to this.

Over the past year, or maybe a little longer, many of the better stores have left the plaza. These stores have been replaced with odd pop-up shops, trinkets stores or sadly left vacant.

The major retailers in the center don't have the enthusiasm to warrant inventories and upkeep of their South Shore Plaza locations.

There are a few new restaurants in the mall, from the moderate to low-end chain restaurant world. Red Robin, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't see this mall rallying anytime soon. With better stores heading to the surrounding outdoor, lifestyle centers, South Shore Plaza doesn't offer much anymore.
