NSMT Is The Best Theater Around Featuring Top Notch Performers In Top Notch Broadway Productions.
One of our favorite theatre venues. The atmosphere and special effects are wonderful. We saw A Christmas Carol for the 3rd time on 12/9. We’ve been here for multiple broadway productions and have never been disappointed. Every seat in the place is a great seat as the theatre is not very large, so it’s very intimate and captivating. The round stage makes such that everyone is sitting and facing front. Highly recommend seeing a show here.

    Four Seasons Show
Three couples viewed the Four Seasons show on Saturday afternoon. The seats were excellent Door 4 Section F. Viewed the same show many years ago. The whole show from start to finish was fantastic! The performers were amazing! The songs were wonderful to listen and sing to. The performers dancing and movement was great. The microphone system was absolutely perfect to listen to the performers voices. When the saxophones came on I got goose bumps. The band played awesome. The lighting and props were excellent. An excellent venue to view this show! Having detail Officers assisting us in leaving was a huge bonus! Sincerely, Rich Mosey

My husband and I went to a performance on August 24th. I came down with COVID three days later. I had signed up for a performance of the Full Monty Oct. 5. I Wanted to postpone my tickets to next Spring. I could either donate them or loose my tickets. I have supported this theater company for 30 years. This is how you loose support.

I admit it had been a few years since I visited the NS Music Theatre. Over the past few decades, my husband and I have regularly seen plays and musicals in Boston, the last being "The Book of Mormon" (meh!). What I remember about those excursions is being crammed into a seat intended for someone Tiny Tim's size. Not only that, the seats in those old theaters are ancient; when you're sitting for two hours straight, you feel it. Additionally, you develop a stiff neck from tilting your head in order to see around the person in front of you. And did I mention the cost of two tickets at a Boston theatre? You could stay at The Four Seasons with what you'll pay at the box office, providing you reach the box office after driving up and down dark, crowded streets searching for a parking space.

Thus I was in for an eye-opener when I attended a matinee performance of "A Christmas Carol" in December. This was a special year for the production: The actor who plays Scrooge was celebrating his 25th year of performing the role at the NS Music Theatre. My son got tickets for the two of us after I dropped a few hints about what I wanted for Christmas.

Right from the start, I was impressed with the comfortable seats. Even though the theater was full, you never felt crowded. At the Boston theaters, the rows are so tightly packed that if you feel an itch, you can't scratch without involving your seat mate.

And best of all, you don't have to crane your neck to see the stage. The floor is on a slant, providing an all-over good view. Plus, the "theater-in-the-round" concept creates a feeling of intimacy between audience and actors. Last but not least, you don't leave the theater wondering if your car has been towed, as you do in Boston. The NS Music Theatre has plenty of parking. Did I mention the popcorn? It's better than the movies.

I've seen a number of productions at North Shore Music Theater, and I've also seen a number of productions on Broadway. While the sets at NSMT may not be as elaborate as those in NYC (primarily because NSMT doesn't show the same production for three years straight), the choreography, direction, and talent of the performers is on par with what you would see on the Big Stage. That's not an exaggeration; I stand behind that statement.

This is also a North Shore gem and an artistic respite in a place that's dominated by cement and angry commuters. We should not let NSMT fall into arrears. I urge everyone to get out and support local culture. Take your significant other or your kids to one of their fantastic shows. (I have no affiliation with NSMT; I'm just a big fan.)

June 2, 2015 (Tuesday) - While staying at the Springhill Suites at Peabody, I glanced at a local newspaper and saw that "Dream Girls" was playing that night at the North Shore Music Theater. Since we were in the area for only a couple of days, I called the theater and reserved two seats. Other than Broadway at New York City, it is rare to find a performance offered on a Tuesday night.

We made a good decision to go to see "Dream Girls" at the North Shore Music Theater. Although I do not have any pictures of the outside or the inside of the theater, you can take my word for it, you will be impressed. Outside parking can be close at $10 or regular at zero dollars. We chose the zero and it was fine. It may be a little wait to get out to the main road because theater is accessed through a residential neighborhood.

Once inside the theater, we were impressed with the quality and the visibility. Our seats were in section L right next to one of the aisles that the performers used to enter the stage. Our seats were $59 each but here is a slight booking charge. The show was very professional with props coming from under the stage but not so much to interfere with seeing the performers. The cast was excellent with good voices and facial expressions. The costumes were also well done.

If we lived in the area, we would go back for another show.

Watching Sunset Boulevard at the North Shore Music Theatre was extraordinary. North Shore had the opportunity to do something quite remarkable by having Alice Ripley play Norma Desmond, after she had played the original Betty Schaefer on the Broadway run of the musical Sunset Boulevard. Add to this, the dynamic element of the theatre in the round (although technically in 3/4 as one section had been closed off and a stage created on it), with images of Norma all over the theatre reminding the audience of the faded star Norma Desmond. The director interpretation of the dead version (ghost) of the Joe Gillis character walking around throughout was an interesting choice but at times difficult to see the connection. Stellar performances from Alice Ripley and her version of “As if we never said goodbye” absolutely haunting. Nicholas Rodriguez as Joe Gillis was one of the best I have seen and his voice and expression brought this character to life. The cast overall were energetic and there was a vibrancy and the quality of the orchestra was to be commended. In the round is always a challenge, in a positive way, and requires direct interaction with the performers. There was a standing ovation at the end of the production. I still think of Ripley’s amazing version of “As if we never said goodbye” and am very thankful to have had the experience.

Thank you for your review. We rely on patrons to share their opinions open and honestly, and we accept yours with great respect. NSMT takes pride in producing shows that are thought provoking—works that get the audience thinking about a time and place that may be very different (or quite similar) to our current climate. Oklahoma is no exception. The show itself is dated, as it was written in 1943—but it’s strong themes of love, optimism, and a community coming together, while also addressing the darker realities of life (violence, bullying, and injustice) allow us to reflect on our own world today in 2019 and what we can do as people to keep moving forward. It is very important to note that Patrick, our trained stage/stunt horse, thankfully did not fall off the stage—but rather tripped while walking up the ramp and quickly recovered within seconds during the scene. We’re so grateful no one was hurt or injured, namely Patrick, his trainer/owner who accompanies him the entire duration, nor the actor who plays Curly. Safety is top priority at NSMT, and we don’t take such events lightly. Rest assured, we will continue to conduct routine rehearsals with the horse and cast to ensure smooth sailing for all. We thank you again for coming to the show, and sharing your experience openly with us.

I can't believe it has taken so long to get to the North Shore Music Theatre! A christmas Carol is a big annual production and well-loved - and now I know why. But I want also to say what a amazing experience this theater -in-the-round provides. EVery seat is close to the action, the aisles are well used by the cast, giving an intimate experience in a large space. THe amazing mechanics of the stage itself allow for almost impossible scene changes and effects - and the lighting and performances roll on constantly - you never notice where one scene ends and another begins. A wonderful place for families and adults alike to immerse themselves in musical theater!
