What a wonderful fly fishing adventure! Capt Avery sure knows these waters and the fish. Following her precise instructions, it certainly increased my hookset rate. Even if you don't fish, you'll learn so much about this amazing fishery, the history, and it's unique topography. I caught/released plenty of striped bass and my wife just enjoyed the beauty of the Barnstable Harbor. We are ready to do it again!

We went out with Captain Avery, who was a very kind and effective guide. We hooked into a school of striped bass the first hour of our trip. The fish struck hard and often, and they were a blast to reel in. While we had much less luck as the morning went along, that first hour was worth the trip. We mostly used light tackle as opposed to fly poles, but that did not bother us because the fish were just as fun on light tackle. If you’ve never experienced catching stripers, you should check out Salty Fly!

Jason, Thanks for your review! Yes, the first hour was certainly the most productive hour of the trip. I'll have to remind those fish that they are supposed to stay at work for the entire duration of the trip. :) Come back again next year! avery

What a quick and easy trip -- no big ride out to the fishing spots. We were casting within 5 minutes into the trip and hooking up within 10-15. At one point it almost got silly with a fish or at least multiple strikes per cast. (That point did not last forever, however!) Avery brings both fly rods in multiple weights and some spinning gear, either for when your arm gets tired or if you want to get further out. We'd move from spot to spot, drift, re-drift and sometimes re-re-drift the better runs. Avery was also great to talk to throughout the trip whether it was chatting in general or giving tips on casting. Overall, a great trip -- and so fast and easy. Two seconds onto the boat, drive out, get fishing, drift around, move again, and then eventually power back in (her boat can move when she wants it to). We caught so many fish I lost count.

Had a blast searching for birds to identify exploding Striper on the surface and sight fishing for them on the flats. We were amateurs but Captain Avery made us feel like experts. Very patient and full of knowledge. We are already booked again for next year!

I've been out fishing with Avery a couple of times, and it's always been great. I usually go with my son in July and we try to catch a few stripers. I like to use the fly rod and my son spin-casts. Avery does a great job putting us right on the fish. Her knowledge of the area and the tides is second to none. We always catch fish and we always have fun - that's why I keep hiring her to take us out. I highly recommend Avery.
