My husband and I have a tradition of taking a ghost tour of whatever location we are vacationing. It’s been a very fun and exciting hobby of ours and we’ve been on many through the years from Europe, to Australia, and all over the US. I really enjoyed this tour, it was just over 2 hours long, so I really feel like I got my $25 worth. I thoroughly enjoyed our tour guide, Karen, as well! She provided a lot of information, was animated, and interactive with our group. We highly recommend adding this tour to your itinerary the next time you visit Ocean City!

I highly recommend this tour both for paranormal stories and historical facts about St. Michael’s, MD. Dee Dee gave several of us a great tour on a cold November night, and was an educated, engaging, funny, and informative tour guide. I liked that the tour shared so much of the rich, haunted history of St. Michael’s. The tour pointed out many things that I don't normally notice while walking around town.

I would not hesitate to recommend the St. Michael’s ghost tour. Dee Dee is very personable and a fantastic storyteller, and she gives the best tours in Chesapeake Country. Thanks to Chesapeake Ghost Walks for providing entertaining and informative tours for us!

We were looking for something different to do besides walking the boardwalk at night during our week long trip to the beach. We came across the ghost tour and decided to book it. It turned out to be a fun evening. Good stories plus a little bit of history about Ocean City which made the tour so much more interesting. We learned things about the area that we never knew after visiting for many years. I would definitely recommend taking the ghost tour on one evening of your trip. I wish I could remember our tour guides name but her name was unique. However, she was very good and we toured with her on Wednesday, Aug 12th at 8:00 PM.

Not impressed, Tour guide provided us with folklore "banter" . She was very light on knowledge of actual names, dates etc. After the tour we tried to verifiy events she mentioned vaguely but could not. The tour route was in NO way handicap acceptable yet there was an elderly couple in the group, the wife used a scooter for mobility. At one point , due to flooding, the guide told this elderly coulple that they would have to meet up with us afew blocks over and sent them on their way- in th pitch dark, over completley uneven stone & brick . Because of concern for their safety, my adult daughter and I accompanied them and met up with the group 10 minutes later. Without the use of my ipone flash light this couple would have been lost at best if not injured. There was also afew adults in the group that came straight from cocktail hour and were not a plus to the experience either. Tho this was not our guides fault in any way, I do feel she should have been better prepared on how not to engage with them and keep the tour on a tone that I would expect after paying $106 for. In summary , I will never recommend this companies tours and feel I paid $25 per person + tax on a tour that may have been worth about $10 per person

I'm sorry that you were disappointed in your tour. I'd like to highlight a few things that appear on our website. We do not state that tours are accessible to people with disabilities. Everyone handles their own disabilities with different capabilities. We do let people know - if they ask, that most of the tour is wheelchair accessible except the graveyards. But it is up to the individual to assess his or her own strength for a 1-mile tour. In the case of your tour, there was unexpected flooding sue to a random high-tide (not typical) which hindered the disabled person's navigational capabilities. We had no way of knowing this would be the case. We are sorry that there were persons on the tour that had too much to drink. My understanding is that they left and returned. It's a challenge for a guide to cope with that sort of behavior. And regarding "folklore banter" our website clearly states what to expect on a tour. In fact, there is a whole page dedicated to it. It states on that page that much of the research for these tours (which I wrote) came from folklore collections. We are storytellers not paranormal investigators or historians. And that is stated clearly. Lastly, the guide that you had is our highest-rated tour guide. Read some of the trip advisor ratings that mention DeeDee. For the past two years, she has received more 5-star ratings than any of our guides that cover the 11 towns we feature. This guide is also somewhat of a historian herself. I'm surprised to read that you perceived her light on knowledge. That has never been the perception - at least not on our online reviews - of the hundreds of people that she has guided on tours. I'm still sorry that the tour wasn't what you expected. We hope that everyone enjoys our tours and we do our best with unusual circumstances like the flooding on that tour and some guests that were less than courteous. We hope you'll give us another try in the future. Thanks for your feedback and for joining us on the St. Michaels Ghost Tour. Regard, Mindie Burgoyne Owner, Chesapeake Ghost Tours

For a ghost tour to be hosted on a crowded, happy boardwalk, the tour guide has to be out out of this world to install fear and be a professional. Sadly this tour lacked that and was more so a lecture form grade school. She used the word “like” too much and relied on videos with lack of continuity. The guide was not interesting and the stories forgettable. Save you’re money and watch a Netflix horror film instead.

To improve your tours, please educate your guides. Engaging public speaking tactics would improve the tour.

We went on the St. Michael's tour with DeeDee. She was a great storyteller and an excellent guide to the area. She handled everything that came up - latecomers, the cold weather - very quickly and had a personal story for every part of town, the most terrifying one taking place in the hotel we were staying in, which was unpleasant but exactly what we were asking for. Provided you bring a coat, we definitely recommend DeeDee's tour if you're in the area.

Another outstanding bus tour with Chesapeake Ghost Walks. Our tour guide Dee Dee was excellent. She was knowledgeable of the area history and very entertaining with the ghost stories she shared. We have b the n on many of the ghost walk tours and several of the bust tours. I highly recommend Chesapeake Ghost Tours.

My best friend and I attended the Berlin,MD ghost walk during Ocean City Sun Fest. We were 15 min early and went to the address on the receipt as a meeting place. A very small corner where 3 roads meet. No one else was there and we could see a group congregating at a nearby hotel that was listed on the receipt. We walked over there and found a group of people who were also taking same ghost walk. Checked still no one else at other address. In a few minutes a angry women came over shouting were we the group she was looking for and why were we in the wrong meeting spot. Why was everyone all summer here infront of the hotel instead of the corner that was really too small a sidewalk area for people to meet. We go to the correct starting area and she berates us with a speech about how she is on a strict schedule and we need to keep up or be left behind. Her attitude was terrible the entire tour. Infront of the Bakery I asked a question concerning weather the apartments above the business was haunted she just ignored me. Then as we were walking across a street I asked the same question only to get a rude dismissive I do not know. Later on the tour she made a comment that she was open to questions and others on our tour burst out laughing because she had ignored me when I asked a question. She keep referring to stories of haunting events in Ocean City and talked alot about the boardwalk. I did not mind this but many people wanted to know more about Berlin. I was going to see if there were spaces on the Ocean City ghost tour later that weekend if we enjoyed the Berlin tour but did not because we were already told alot about Ocean City on our tour as well as our tour guide seemed rushed, rude and not very knowledgeable. I have been on many ghost tours in Gettysburg, PA ,Gaitlinburg,TN, Savanah, GA and A dinner with ghost in Wythville,VA so I know what a great ghost tour is like. Avoid the Berlin Ghost tour it is terrible. I took so long to leave this review as I do not like leaving a bad one but I hope this keeps people from having a unenjoyable experience.

Hello, Paula. I'm sorry that you were disappointed. I'd like to address the location issue. Back in July of this year, we changed our meeting place from the Atlantic Hotel in Berlin to the Berlin Visitors' Center under the big Welcome to Berlin sign. The two locations are less than a block apart and are easily visible to each other. Every once in a while guests go to the hotel location by mistake and the guide will look at the hotel after checking in the guests. We have the new "Welcome Center" location marked on "where to meet" both on our website and on the tickets. But we've met at the Atlantic Hotel for the last 7 years so many people - even people in the town - think we meet there. We hope this confusion will be resolved by next season. Sorry that you were frustrated. It was at the request of the Atlantic Hotel that we do not meet on their property anymore. They didn't like the guests using the bathrooms and crowding the patio area those few minutes before the tour. Of course, you were on a tour in October which is our busiest time with the highest attendance. That may have also led to frustration. Again, we're sorry for that. Regarding Mary (the tour guide) kept referring to stories about Ocean City... She tells the stories that are on the tour that I have written. Ocean City is tied to Berlin's history, and important people in the Berlin graveyard (particularly the Trimpers - icons in Worcester County) have had an immense impact on Ocean City and the love story told at the graveyard involves a ghost. I wrote the tours and the history piece serves as a framework for interpreting the "mystery" or ghost story. So Mary is not accountable for which stories are told on the tour. I am. As far as the tour not being about Berlin .... On your Berlin tour, you visited the Atlantic Hotel, The Calvin B. Tayor House with the Healing Tree, the Antique store (speakeasy), Adkins Hardware, the field of the elemental, Baked Deserts Bakery, and the Confederate soldier's house - - oh and the Lady in White, and Judge and Mrs. Sandford quarters, and the old Dairy Queen (now Island Creamery) and Ned France's old store site. None of these properties have anything to do with Ocean City. So I challenge your indication that "many people wanted to know more about Berlin." Similarly, I'm guessing that Mary didn't talk about the Ocean City Lifesaving Station Museum, the Tarry-A-While, the Henry Hotel, the Atlantic Hotel in Ocean City, Ripley's Believe it or Not (the old Ocean City Pier) or Dolle's Candyland. Those are all stops on the Ocean City tour. Too bad you opted not to go on that tour due to having heard all of it on the Berlin tour. I also have been on ghost tours in all of the cities you've named and many more. I used my experiences on scores of ghost tours as a guest to help craft the 8 walking tours we currently operate. So I'm offended by your statement that you "hope [your review] keeps people from having an unenjoyable experience" and titled your review the Worst Ghost Tour I Have Ever Experienced." Guests have qualities that can both enhance and detract from a group tour experience. A guest's attitude certainly influences his or her level of enjoyment and can also affect the tour guide's demeanor. Guests can be polite, interested, positive, and radiate good vibes in the best and worst of times. And all of that goodness returns to them. And those positive guests comprise about 90% of the guests on our tours. And when I reviewed the photo of the group at the Taylor House, which is posted on our Facebook page, 90% of the guests on that tour appear joyful, smiling, and having a wonderful time.

We took the Ocean City Inlet tour and had a blast! Our tour guide Emerald was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the different locations we visited. It was more upbeat than spooky, but that’s what we wanted, so I think Emerald tailored the tour to our preference. It was really interesting to learn about the history of the different locations in Ocean City and the entities that haunt them. Definitely would recommend for anyone interested in the paranormal!
