I am a Native Floridian who grew up fishing in South Florida and my very first real fishing trip was in the Florida Keys. Many years later I relocated to the Mid-Atlantic. I am a saltwater fisherman to the core but living near the beltway near MD, VA and D.C. ........there ain't no saltwater. So you got a 3 hour drive to get to the Chesapeake, Virginia Beach or Ocean City.......I have consistently made the drive to Ocean City because I LOVE fishing with Capt. Monty on the Morning Star.......this is one of the few Captains who actually cares about the environment, sustaining the fishery and cares if his customers actually catch fish or not. He WORKS for his customers. He will pull anchor and move as much as he needs to, if the boat is not catching. I've caught my biggest Sea Bass and flounders fishing on this boat. He has the best mates and he comes out of the wheel house to share his experience with customers, fishing side by side with them. This guy is a mad expert when it comes to fishing. A modest guy, but a fishing expert. MONTY, I'm bringing a lot of my employees to fish with you this Spring! Thanks for all the awesome trips...

We had a great day. Caught lots of fish. The mates were great and very patience. Not your typical over crowded fishing chart out of OC.

Capt. Monty Hawkins will put you on the fish and his excellent mates will keep you fishing. Rates are a little higher than other boats because he takes a max of 25 fishing on a 55 foot boat. You have far fewer tangled lines and more room to play the fish. Mates are quick to re-rig you if you lose your set on the bottom. Both the Capt. and the mates will give fishing advice if you need it. I always have dinner on a Morningstar trip and often my limit. Good rental rods for $7 and plenty of fresh bait. This is the trip to introduce someone to real headboat fishing. Be prepared with your own lunch and drinks and also0 for a couple of hours to get to the best fishing spots each way. Definitely recommend this headboat!

Captain Monty is the best captain on the East Coast, period. He puts you on the fish. He has the most precise anchor sets of any boat I fish on, and I fish on more than a few. This is particularly important for winter tautog fishing. Although his expertise is sea bass, tautog is a close second, and you'll catch more than a few flounder. I've been fishing with him since he was captain on the OC Princess in the 90's. This boat is slightly more expensive than standard party boat but much less crowded.

This was a great selection for charter boat fishing. The crew is great. It's a well managed boat. Early and timely departure with a large selection of fish sites throughout the day. All you need to bring is a ice cooler for your catch and your own lunch. The crew supplies your gear and bait. When you make a catch, the crew even helps you get it in and stowed away. Run low on bait, and they refill quickly for you. Your fish is filleted for you before you get back to shore. I'll definitely do this again. Many people on the charter were returning customers who spoke highly of the experiences.

This was by far, one of the best fishing trips I've ever taken. That Capt put us on the fish and I dare say about every person caught their limit of Sea Bass. If you have the time, I would highly recommend this charter fishing event.

Have been on head boats in OC before, first time on Morning Star, will never go back to the others. Monty will put you on fish, regular first mate was ill this day but Doug did a great job! You have room on his boat, your spot is YOUR spot. We got 18 Sea Bass and 3 Flounder in the box, filleted and bagged to take home. Highly recommend!

Fortunately, the weather was good and the seas calm. Even though it took a couple of hours to get to the fishing grounds, it was worth it. So many fish! So much fun! We brought back several large bags of fillets. We caught mostly sea bass, but caught a nice flounder as well. I would definately go again. The key for an enjoyable deep sea trip is the weather and calm seas, so plan accordingly. Don't forget the dramamine, just in case.

Our Fishing trip with Morning Star Boat was more of a sight-seeing tour! The Capt. took 2 &1/2 hours of our charter time to lay bricks in the water--stopping serveral times--before we hit "his" desired spot for us to fish! What? What was he thinking? It's bad enough to leave early in the morning and start our return around 3:00; but the kicker was to make these several short-lived stops just to plant bricks at wrecks at our expense. Most unfair. My total catch of 5 useable Black Bass was not the average of 2 for most wranglers. Everyone on board complained of not enough time was spent in the water actually fishing! I would not recommend fishing on the Morning Star Boat.

Captain Monty runs year-round. When you subscribe to his email he will announce the days he's going out during the winter as he will only go out when weather permits. Winter is great for Tog fishing and he generally only takes about 12 people for the winter Tog trips. By April he will probably be fishing for Black Sea Bass. Again go on the Morning Star web site and subscribe so you can get weekly updates. He is very active in reef building and fisheries management so you will also get a lot of interesting updates on legislation and seasonal closures of some fish species. From my experience the trips are paid for ahead by calling the reservation number and are $110.00/ person. This is a great boat to go on for fishing and is well equipped but it might be a bit much for a three year old if you're out for eight hours and there is any chop (sea-sickness).
