Beautiful lake!
Aug 2021
As a PA resident I'm not used to paying to visit a state park but $5 a head was certainly worth it when we visited. Park was clean and well maintained.

Great hiking
Jul 2021
We spent a couple of enjoyable days hiking here with our dogs. They have a nice variety of trails varying from easy walks in the woods to some rocky trails with more challenging changes in elevation. None of the trails were overly difficult though, not even Thayer Trace which is designated as "difficult" on the trail map.

Beach Day
Jun 2021
Water is warmer than air. Fun for kids but can get crowded. Beach has a life guard. Can also rent kayaks but must stay close to shore since motorized boats are on the lake.

Nice Hiking
Apr 2021
Nice day for hiking- once we found the trailheads, the trails were well marked. The bathrooms near the beach were well maintained. For families with children, there are multiple playgrounds near the beach, so lots to do. At first we drove past the park entrance because Google Maps told us to keep going- so trust your instincts rather than the electronic device.

Nice Hiking
Apr 2021 • Family
We visited over Easter Weekend. Too cold for the beach, so we mainly hiked in the park. The trails are well marketed and not too hilly. No real views or running water, but very nice for some solitude and recharging. We did the Turnip Loop, saw a few deer, and woodpeckers. I imagine that the entire area is more crowded in the summer time. If time is short in the area, Swallow Falls has much more impressive hiking.

A really nice lake surrounded by a town that supports public displays of white supremacism
Jul 2020
My friends and I visited Deep Creek Lake in the summer of 2020. Shortly thereafter we learned that this is not the best place to bring a family if you are black, indigenous, people of color (or anyone who stands by the 13th amendment) because of tangible threats and intimidation by members of the community at large on visitors including families with children. I will be specific:

In December 2020 a family on vacation was watched and later harassed by a fully robed and hooded member of a white supremacist organization. The robed and hooded man came onto the family's rented property in order to terrorize them.

There is a lynching effigy hanging from the tree in the front yard of a residence, clearly and intentionally visible on a main road of the town, that has been there for 4+ years.

Garret County and the Maryland state police are aware of these issues and have made piddling attempts at affecting them so as to keep the area 'quaint'.

I hope that if you are looking for a safe vacation spot for your family, you take this into consideration when looking towards Deep Creek Lake.

Heaven for leaf viewers
Oct 2020
I don't know much about activities in other seasons, but I can tell with certain that the park is a great place to enjoy fall leaf either along the road or from the lake. In addition, if you are a hiking enthusiast this place is for you too. Get out of the park and the mountain, you can enjoy the boating, farmlands, and good food around town on lakeside. If you are looking for alternative place to enjoy fall, put this place on your list (including all the I-68 corridor).

Extremely Well-Marked Hiking Paths
Oct 2020
We went here hiking on Columbus Day weekend during the Autumn Glory festival. We thought it would be crowded. It was not. Very nice hike with varying terrain and nice foliage views. Options for all levels of hikers. Extremely well marked trails. In fact, the best I've ever seen. Would recommend! $3 in-state for access. $5 out-of-state. Honor system.

Easy hike
Sep 2020 • Couples
Walked part of Mt Meadow Trail, which was very beautiful, not hard, and not crowded on a weekday in late September. It took us a little while to figure out the signage, but once we did, the trail was easy to follow. The beach was deserted because it was cold and windy. But it was nice to visit during the off season, absent the crowds
