I love visiting this area. The battlefield is really three locations/notches where battles occured. I'm a fan of Fox's Gap, but also War Correspondent's Memorial at Crampton's. Also, is along the ATC

The South Mountain site is extensive so be prepared to walk a bit. There are a lot more trees now so it is difficult to get a sense of the battle. It provides an enjoyable walk, however.

This is indeed a walk back in history. There are great vistas of Frederick County and Washington county. It is a small hike to the Monument and worth the trip. Don't forget to walk through the displays at the entrance.
