DISCRIMNATION
Oct 2021
Very displeased. This place treated my mentally disabled niece terrible. She is 90 pounds soaking wet and unable to control a cart. They REFUSED to allow her to ride with her mother, who wouldn't allow her to ride alone due to not being capable to know safety awareness. We traveled to have a family vacation and she was so excited to ride the mountain coaster. They humiliated her. They caused her to cry and REFUSED to accommodate a disabled young girl who is the size of a 10 yo and has a mentality of a young child. HOW SYMPATHETIC ARE YOU! They refunded all of our money. They lost 400 dollars that day. The mother was signing responsibility for her daughter who was so excited JUST FOR YOU TO BREAK HER HEART AND NOT ALLOW HER ON THE COASTER.

Close, Convenient, and Not That Bad, Really
Feb 2021
WISP Resort! It's five hours from my home, and I've been going there in the summer for lake vacations for 15+ years now. Last year (Feb. 2021) was my first time being there in the winter and skiing. It was also, notably, my second time skiing, ever, with the first having been at Breckenridge in Colorado. I'm trying to keep in mind that direct comparisons between any two resorts isn't fair, let alone Appalachian resorts vs. Rocky resorts. Those young, hot mountains thing they're the bee's knees, but the East coast has a lot to offer!

With that in mind, here's my review:

- Expensive. Skiing at WISP for four days as nearly as expensive as skiing at Breck for three (direct comparisons aren't fair, but come on, price is pretty objective!). As others have said, I took from that WISP's slopes would be comparable to Breck's in number, snow, and quality.

- Number, snow, and quality of slopes is...a little lacking. The entire time we were there, there were exactly four greens open, two of which our WISP-instructor informed us "really shouldn't be greens" (Little Dipper and Possum) due to some of their steeper/narrower sections and the limited amount of snow/large amount of ice on them. All through our trip, folks kept telling us "If you can ski on the East Coast, you can ski anywhere!", in direct reference to how the lack of snow and difficulty of the slopes. So that's a positive spin! But it is frustrating that there are so few greens, the greens there are aren't great, and because of these two things, they are always very crowded, which makes life for beginners even more challenging.

- "Short" lift lines. We never once waited in a lift line for more than ten minutes, and we were using the most popular lift! I did hear that the weekend after we left, MLK day, that was a different story, but I had nothing but positive experiences with the lift and lift operators at WISP!

- Cool lessons. We did nab some lessons, and our instructor, Lynn, was pretty awesome. He hounded us constantly about bent knees and staying low, he showed us some neat drills, and by the end of our time together, I could actually turn in parallel, which I never thought I'd be able to do! I tried to show off this new skill by hockey-stopping my family at the bottom of the hill and coating them in snow (slash ice crystals), and I promptly fell on my butt, but Lynn was there to pick me up and commend my effort! I would absolutely take more lessons with him!

- Parking s u c k s. There is NO public transportation in WISP that I'm aware of, and I called the resort! Your options are to walk to the mountain in shoes and rent a locker, walk in bindings and hate your life, or, as most folk choose to do, drive, which is a serious pain in the ass. They just don't have much parking AT ALL, so I recommend getting there early or just staying at the resort (as opposed to a nearby house).

Overall, I obviously miss Breck, but a five hour drive versus aaaaaaall the nonsense it takes to get to any Colorado resort is a pretty sweet trade. I had a lot of fun and a lot of positive experiences at WISP, but I'd honestly never travel to it if it weren't simply the closest and most convenient.

ALSO OMG DO THE SNOW TUBING. WISP'S SNOW TUBING IS 100x BETTER THAN THE BIG RESORTS--IT'S SO DANG FUN, TRUST ME!

Inefficient
Aug 2021 • Family
The wait is far too long for a mountain coaster with such a short vertical drop. The whole process is incredibly inefficient.

Highly recommend doing the zip line tour! We had a great time! Our guides, Tyler and Mack, were very fun and helpful and made sure everyone was safe. Even when one in our group jumped before they were supposed to!!

Fun Activities for a Non-Lake Day
Jul 2021 • Family
We went to Wisp in July to take advantage of some of the activities they had to offer.
We started with the mountain coaster. The ride itself is fast and fun. You have control of the brakes and can zoom down the mountain pretty fast. However, that also means that slower riders can slow down the line for everyone. We waited about 1.5 hours to get on. When some riders take it down the mountain too slow, the staff has to wait for them to clear the track before they send others up. Three of us went onto the coaster so we bought a 3-pack for $44 (plus tax) so all three of us could go down one time.
We also tried the spider monkey ropes course. This was also fun and challenging. The staff manning the course was helpful and friendly.
Our youngest enjoyed playing on the small playground, too.

Best (only) attraction in Deep Creek!
Jul 2021
The Mountain Coaster was the best attraction in Deep Creek! Line was a little long, but worth the wait. Staff was very fun and friendly! We had a party of 16 and 2 of us decided to do archery instead, it was fun and service was still great. Was a little confusing for us being 1st timers that there were no signs directing you on where you needed to go and buy tickets or that the waiver needed signed 1st. Still not a big problem. Great money saver was that they allowed my family of 5 to buy a High 5 Pass and saved us $20. We all really enjoyed the coaster!

Go ANYPLACE else!
Apr 2021
This resort should not bill itslef as a resort! We just spent a night there and there were no services- not even coffee in the morning. We paid a ridiculous amount to sleep! We should have stayed anywhere else- at least then we would have had coffee in the morning. Seriously- no food open on premise! I have never been so angry at a booking- especially since I called to confirm things were open!

Snow tubing at Wisp
Mar 2021 • Family
Poor experience snow tubing Lines were long. Went down just 3 times in 2 hours. Lifts kept shutting off. Employees were more worried about their cell phones than going down slopes in a more timely fashion.

Ski weekend at Wisp
Feb 2021
We had the best snow/ski conditions that we have in years. They were making snow and doing a great job keeping up the trails.

Always a great time!
Feb 2021
Went here with family and friends and did some skiing/snowboarding. We had a great day and the trails were in nice shape. The lines at the lifts were very long though. Everyone had on face protection when in line. I will go back.
