I had been a power boater, but Captain Glen (who taught me power boating) encouraged me to try the Bay Sail ASA 101 Keelboat Sailing class. What a blast! I learned a ton over 3 days. We started each morning in the classroom, but spent 90+% of the time on a 22 ft Catalina Capri sailboat. Capt Glen is The Best. He can teach me anything on the water. He is true Captains' Captain. He even lives on a sailboat! If you want to learn to sail, then I highly recommend Bay Sail and Captain Glen. Their facilities are clean, and their staff are courteous and professional. And their sail boats are well maintained. Above they are very safety conscious!

I just spent 5 days (24/7) on a gorgeous 38 ft Beneteau sailboat taking the ASA combo 103 (Coast Cruising) and 104 (Bareboat Cruising) classes. WOW! Awesome! You are totally immersed in the sailing concepts and practical hands-on applications from sun up to sun down. Capt. Glen rocks! I previously took the ASA 101 class with Bay Sail & Capt. Glen. Everything I know about sailing I learned from Capt. Glen. I fully endorse Bay Sail and Capt. Glen and encourage anyone interested in learning to sail to contact Bay Sail (and absolutely ask for Capt. Glen).

I took the 3-day ASA 101 class which was taught by Kevin. We had 4 students in total in our group and we each got plenty of hands on experience sailing the boat. Kevin did a fantastic job of covering the ASA 101 material and answering any questions we had. If anyone needed extra help with any particular aspect, Kevin made sure to follow up on those things so that we were all comfortable with the boat and the learning material. Most of the class was spent out sailing. I had a great experience and look forward to taking a the ASA 103 down the road.

Had an anniversary sunset cruise with my wife. It was early October and the autumn nights were just getting a little chilly but with a little champagne and some dinner fare we had a wonderful experience. We have lived in Havre de Grace for ten years but we haven't seen the lighthouse from a sailboat until that night. Anyone visiting this town should take advantage of this opportinity.

My husband and I rented a 22-ft. daysailer. Grace and Capt. Rick were able to accommodate our last minute change in reservations. Before departing the dock, Capt. Mike went over everything with us from bow to stern. Perfect weather and good wind made for a great day of sailing! I highly recommend them. We overnighted at Havre de Grace with is a cute town full of history.

My husband & I have talked about sailing for years. I saw that Baysail had a one day introduction course so we decided to sign up, it was wonderful. Not intimidating at all everyone there made you feel welcome and comfortable. When you are on the boat with the instructor you are doing everything so you really get a true feeling for your capabilities and enjoyment of sailing. Did I mention that I knew absolutely nothing about boats and I was at the helm tacking and jibing. If you are thinking about learning to sail Baysail is the place to go. We will be returning to take the courses for certification so we can sail on our own.

Ever since I first took out a daysailer in the 1970's, my dream has been to get back on the water. But, then along came a wife, kids, a business and all the other obligations life throws at you when you live over 60 miles from the nearest navigable water. So, here I was, 60 y/o with a girlfriend who shared my dream even though she had never sailed before. So, I looked into the idea of checking this one off our bucket list.
I saw that Havre De Grace would be the nearest place to try sailing and after a little research, we picked Baysail to go for our ASA 101 certificate. We showed up for our first day (of a 3 day course) on a rainy friday morning (9:00AM) a bit concerned about the weekend's weather forecast.
We met Captain Russ who would be our instructor and he quickly got to work going over some sailing basics on a monitor in a tiny classroom. The great thing was there were only 3 students (class size is always between 2 and 4 students). Beth, myself and another friendly fellow from Delaware. After a couple hours in the classroom, fortunately, the weather broke and we were off to our 22 foot Catalina (Carolina) for 6 hours of hands-on sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.
Saturday and Sunday were about the same. A couple hours classroom going over all the practical knowledge a sailor requires to safely take a small sailboat out on the water. Then about 6 hours out on the Bay learning skills and having fun. Sunday afternoon, we all passed our ASA 101 tests with ease.
The long and short: No matter your age or experience level, all you need to get into sailing is the desire to do it and three days of your time. Of course, you can spend all your years perfecting those skills. Baysail is an excellent option. It's not just about the money for them, they really enjoy helping new sailors get started. Although everyone we met there was friendly and knowledgeable, Captain Russ is highly recommended. He is an expert sailor and is patient with new students.
So, if you're like me and have sailing on your bucket list, just give these guys a call and ask for Capt. Russ!

Just got back from taking the 101 class at Baysail with my 16yr son and it was an excellent experience! Captain Glenn was extremely helpful and patient as everyone was learning new skills. He got us right out on the water and incorporated a lot of the class instruction on the boat. For any Father or Mother looking to do something different with your kids I would highly recommend this. We are already planning our first charter and thinking about when to schedule the ASA103 session.
