Ok, I am a bit biased since I am on the board, but this really is about the only option for classical music -- ensemble, not orchestral -- west of Hagerstown. In addition, the quality of performance is top-notch. We heard the American String Quartet from NYC for $15 -- this was a fantastic performance and "deal".

Very intimate seating.

Good food available next door, too.

Tried of all the political haggling in our modern world - Take a leap into another reality - Fill your tank with some Hi-Test culture. It beats listening to the latest propaganda or fake news.

So pleasantly surprised that on our brief trip in Grantsville, we were able to enjoy some world-class entertainment. Arte Trio was playing, and these three accomplished ladies performed pieces from Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Dvorak. The setting was small, intimate, and really allowed all observers to experience the intensity of live music. This series is most certainly worth the $15 ticket. In fact, an employee informed us that they struggle to keep the prices so reasonable, seeing as the performers are generally highly acclaimed artists.

Music at Penn Alps offers the only classical let alone ensemble music in Western Maryland. There are occasional "traditional" groups but even they are interesting and entertaining. Occasionally, a performer comes along that is extraordinary but the "ordinary" is exceptional. Performances run from May through August -- highly recommended! The cost is $15/person and is free for those 19 and under. Good food is available at the restaurant next door.

I've been to Penn Alps numerous times and have seen several changes in ownership and/or management. Most recent visit was October 2012 when once again we were greeted with downhome cordiality. We had my aged aunt with us. She required some extra care but the staff was quick, helpful and courteous. The food is very good. The buffet is not monstrous but always adequate.

This restaurant is old fashioned, but really neat the food is great, people are really nice and they have a few rooms filled with crafts.
