The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine...

The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine devoted to Our Blessed Mother Mary, is a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization and reconciliation.

This beautiful mountain shrine features one of the oldest American replicas of the Lourdes shrine in France, built about two decades after the apparition of Mary at Lourdes in 1858, and attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year from all over the world. It offers the occasion for a deepening conversion, a step forward in the journey to God, with Mary as the model for that journey.

Actually I sent this as a suggestion to visitors from Panama recently because I went there many years ago. So the review is old, but I remember vividly because the National Grotto had such a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The whole area seems to exude a sense of peace and timelessness. We did go by to "The Grotto Water" taps,located... More

But this spot is beautiful and peaceful. I don't know what else to say, other then it is worth a stop for sure, and maybe many more just for slow contemplation.

A most holy place where silence and reverie seeps through the trees and peace quiets the heart. Let your sorrows lay down and rest for a while. Know God is with you. Walk through the gardens and enjoy the beautiful grounds.

What a beautiful place. Really loved it and was the best part of our trip to Emmitsburg. It is a memory that will stick with me for quite some time. The view was amazing. The Grotto itself was really special and such a holy place. I would allow at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours for your visit, just to... More

This shrine is very well kept, a holy place that arouses your natural senses to encounter God with numerous chapels and the sounds and sights of running water and trees that encourages a reverence for and awareness of Someone greater than ourselves.

I was so happy to finally be able to visit this beautiful National Shrine. It was quite peaceful walking around the grounds and saying a few prayers. It was just a shame to have it all overshadowed by the many plaques memorializing the donations as well as the requests for donations for lighting a candle, etc. It is still definitely... More

My go-to place whenever I need to clear my head. The best time to go is on a week day; you can appreciate the silence of the place as there are less people visiting. I love the whole town of Emmitsburg. It's quaint.

This is a historic and beautiful tribute to the Grotto of Lourdes in France, and it is nestled in the quiet wooded land near Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg. It is an easy walk from the parking lot and there are dozens of statues along the walking paths in addition to the Stations of the Cross. You don't need... More
