The trail ride down the GAP was amazing, all down hill. The ride to Frostburg was pleasant and informative..

I rented 2 bikes from CTC for a 35 mile trip on the GAP trail. Excellent and friendly customer service.

I'll definitely rent from CTC again.

Great service here

We found this shop online and called to reserve a shuttle for our biking anniversary weekend. They promptly issues a contract and emailed it requiring only a 50% deposit. When we arrived they were on time with a colorful driver named Hutch with good tidbits about the area as we drove. He carefully loaded bikes with blankets in between to avoid damage. He drove us up to Deal and unloaded us for a great ride downhill back to Cumberland. Excellent company. Store cat and dog were friendly and a fun bonus!

One of the best half-days Maryland has to offer!
Aug 2019
I went with my children and nephews (age 11 to 18) on the Deal, PA to Cumberland, MD section of the G.A.P. trail - 8 people in all, 3 adults, 5 kids. CTC rented us the bikes, and shuttled us from Cumberland up to Deal.

I'm tempted not to tell folks how amazing this is, b/c if everyone knew what an amazing bike ride this is (25 miles of heaven), the trail would be packed with people.

We had a range of fitness levels and bike skills in our group. CTC set us up with great bikes, a good orientation, and an engaging shuttle ride. Then the trail itself was amazing. Beautiful vistas, peaceful, fun tunnels. We spent four hours on the trail, taking a VERY leisurely pace, with lots of stops to take in the sights.

The secret? for this section of the trail, IT IS ALMOST ALL DOWN HILL.

We look forward to going back, and doing more of the trail, and will definitely use CTC again.

I rented a wonderful bike for the GAP Trail. Thanks, Hutch, for helping with the bike and panniers! Chuck was an amazing driver shuttling us to the start. Thanks for your patience and answering all our questions. We highly recommend this bike shop!

GAP trip and shuttle
Aug 2018 • Couples
From the inquiry phone call on Sunday to Tuesday morning, everything went smoothly.

The shop has rentals, repairs and insight on the trail.

They run shuttles from DC to Pittsburgh, which are tailored to the wants of the customers.

We were shuttled from Cumberland to Deal, about 25 miles up the GAP.
The driver, Chuck, was very personable, efficient and professional.

What a beautiful experience that we had! And couldn't have done it without Cumberland Trail Connections!

Disappointed

I am pleased to see that most reviewers had a positive experience with CTC unfortunately I can not say the same. I talked to Jason on the phone when planning our ride and found him to be friendly and helpful. I reserved 3 bikes (2 e-bikes, and 1 hybrid) and arranged shuttle service for 4 to Pittsburgh 3 months in advance of our ride. When making the reservation I asked questions about the type of bikes they rented, and shared information about my riding experience, the type of bikes I am comfortable riding, and my height. Flying across the country and taking off on a 150 mile, multi-day dream ride I wanted to be sure I would have a comfortable bike.

I was surprised, at the least, to arrive and find the person at the shop scrambling to find a suitable bike. The first biked offered to me was quite obviously too large. I tried out 2 others and settled for a Cannondale touring bike for an additional charge of $50. The bike was a great bike for the GAP trail, but too large a frame for me. My reach was much too small for the frame size and left me in a panic when faced with descents in the towns on the trail. I simply could not get the leverage needed on the brake handles. I felt very unsafe and nervous.

The e-bike my husband rented malfunctioned just 17 miles into our first day of riding. In addition the key that locks the battery to the bike broke in half in the lock. A pair of tweezers and ingenuity saved the day. Our phone calls to CTC about the problem were of little help.

We received a request from CTC the day prior to our shuttle reservation asking if we would be willing to have some additional riders in our shuttle van. We were happy to do so, but when we arrived that morning they had a van suitable for a maximum of 6 riders, bikes, and gear and we were now a group of 7. It seem to take advocacy, and produce some stress, on the part of the driver before someone in the shop finally agreed we needed to use their bigger vehicle. We ended up leaving 35 minutes later than reserved.
If we are fortunate enough to ride the GAP again I would look elsewhere for rental bikes and shuttle service. That is unfortunate because the location is so convenient.

Easy and Convenient
Nov 2017 • Couples
We had to rent one bike as mine was out of commission for the time being. We took the bike up the mountain to Frostburg on the train and rode the trail back down for 16 miles. The staff was prompt at 10:30 am opening time and helpful. The staffer was kind and made the rental simple and easy. Even saw a staffer later with a lovely office dog visiting. I would definitely recommend this place for convenience and price.
