I've lived here for 15 years and never rode the train. When my sisters came down from my hometown I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the open air... read more

I visited the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in the fall of 2015 and it was a great experience. The train ride was nice and I got to see a lot of beautiful scenery. The stop over was nice too. I would highly recommend this to anyone who just wants to get away for the day.

Rails closed to Frostburg. They claim a landslide. Train travels very slow in one direction and then goes back the same track through town and out the other side and climbs a mountain. Views are fair due to overgrown vegetation. A stop up the mountain for 30 minutes for pictures. Head conductor was terrific. Helped everyone off and back on... More

We paid $60 a piece and we sat in the lounge car. Chairs were in twos facing each other and comfortable. Inside was very clean but the outside of the cars were that of a train grave yard. 'snacks' were a small plate of cheese, crackers, mustard, salami, and grapes....it was very good. We had to pay cash for all... More

I've lived here for 15 years and never rode the train. When my sisters came down from my hometown I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the open air car most of the time. One sister and I stayed near the train in Frostburg while my other sister went up the hill to... More

We had to pay cash for all our drinks including bottled water. The trip itself was lovely with lots of historical information. The only issues we had were... More

Trip was nice. Had a good time with family. Views were better on one side of the train. Other side not much scenery.

As a father of 3 kids, my son recently graduated high school and making his debut to college. Before that happens, I gave him a special graduation present by taking him to downtown Cumberland from Boston on Amtrak. The ride itself to frostburg on the WMSR would be on the engineer's side. This visit was historic since LS&I 734 mountain... More

Pricey for a round about train ride. Two gift shops.. one for the Western Maryland Railroad and one for the Outfitters. Pretty train though.

Sadly, I did not have the experience of actually riding the train. I had scheduled a birthday trip for a friend who is a historian and train-lover for July 16. We booked first class so we could enjoy the old school train experience WMSR promises. Shortly after I booked, there was a landslide compromising part of the journey. That was... More

My wife and I made reservations 6 weeks in advance for first class passage which included a prim rib dinner. When we checked in we were told they lost our reservation and they were not serving anything. We were put in the salon car, given a $10 voucher for drinks and promised a reimbursement of the difference in price. I'm... More
