I took 3 grand kids, maw maw, and 2 daughters on the North Pole train. Had a great time, Kids really enjoyed it. Visited with Santa, got a gift, at the North Pole. Returned back to Cumberland. Need to get tickets early in Oct. A little pricey, but a good time.

I had first rode the train at age two and many times after. The train station in Cumberland is very nice and packed with 1950's style. The ride up is very nice passing through the narrows, Americas first gateway to the west. You pass through piney mountain in a tunnel built more than 100 years ago. The narration on the... More

The Santa train is something every child should experience. The regular train is exciting for families of all ages.

Unsure where to begin as pictures are worth a 1000 words. First off, the entire staff and crew were incredibly welcoming, friendly and genuinely were glad to see you visit their railroad. John (one of the managers) gave me the 411 and items needed for my cab ride aboard the steam engine. Another John (their unofficial historian) was kind enough... More

The purpose of my trip to Cumberland, MD was to take the Scenic Western Maryland Railroad train loop from Cumberland to Frostburg while the leaves were in color. I would not have visited Cumberland normally, but was pleasantly surprised by its historic quaintness. Cumberland was a frontier town in the 1700s, and its history is well-displayed through historic markers, restoration... More

This is probably last season for the steam engine as it is due its Federal inspection...a long costly affair that is sure to take years to complete (if ever). Close in parking to Cumberland Station is sparse. I was able to park in pay lot right at station which was 1 dollar an hour and you can only pay with... More

I am seriously questioning the integrity of reviews on this site after our day trip to this train. We went on 10/31/15. First, the communication is terrible. After we purchased tickets several weeks ago, we never received any e-mails with details on what to do the day we arrive - time, parking, etc. When we got there, there was little... More

This was our first time to take the scenic train ride and it was so enjoyable. The conductors are very helpful and nice too. We did the premiere seating ($40 per person) and it was just right. You can walk through from car to car and take pictures, which we did. There is a snack car and of course you... More

First, I traveled to this attraction specifically to photograph the train NOT ride it. Therefore my review is of the locations and the visual impact of the Western Maryland RR not the ride itself. The engine will be retired due to FRA rules at the end of 2015 and may not run again for 5 or more years so I... More

We took the train ride in hopes of seeing some fall colors but it was too early in October to see much. The map given to us at our stop had several closed restaurants listed. Our waitress on board was very friendly, helpful, and pleasant. I included some pictures to help future travelers decide where they might wish to sit.
