Description:

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a variety of scenic, dining,...

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a variety of scenic, dining, and specialty excursions throughout the year. Individual and group rates are available for the Mountain Limited, our scenic excursion, as well as Evening Paradise Dinner Trains on Saturday evenings. Also available throughout the year are various specialty and holiday excursions.

*Special Notice*

Despite a landslide that occurred along Western Maryland Scenic Railroad tracks, WMSR will adhere to its 2016 schedule.

Operations will continue with a change to the usual route. Excursions will depart eastward from the Cumberland Station. This will provide guests the opportunity to view the WMSR Shop, where our heritage equipment is restored, maintained, and housed. This is the current site of the C&O 1309 restoration. The train will then head west, traveling past the Cumberland Station to Woodcock Hollow. Guests will have the opportunity to see the most notable landmarks along the route, including Brush Tunnel and Helmstetter’s Curve.

The section of land where the landslide occurred in early 2016 must be stabilized before safe passage can resume to Frostburg. It is the priority of WMSR and the government agencies involved to ensure everyone’s safety.

WMSR would like to thank Allegany County and the surrounding community, as well as its guests, for their continued support. As we look forward to our return to Frostburg, we will continue to provide our guests with fun, memorable experiences aboard WMSR.

If you enjoy going backwards from the station for 15 minutes then back through the same area, this is for you. Nothing but green trees on both sides for miles...can't see a thing! This is not made for children...nothing to do! So slow you could walk the route faster. Route was changed due to a landslide. Price should have been... More

First - I LOVE trains. So does my family. We were very much looking forward to this as a culmination to our vacation in the United Stated and were utterly disappointed. The first 40 minutes or so just killed it. That part consisted of an absolute crawl to West Virginia and back to the station - we could have walked... More

Travel back in time, enjoy a scenic train ride while enjoying a funny murder mystery. Being our anniversary, we splurged on first class dining tickets. It was a great experience, but the food was average, and not that warm. Better food at Golden Corral. We were told rhis was the first time with that caterer, and they would be looking... More

If you are a train fan this is the way to make the trip if you do not mind riding backwards til track is repaired to Frostburg turntable, due to several slides If you want a regular ride they have several choices that a handicapped person can do.

After seeing their changed itinerary on website we were nervous about our trip but it turned out great. Station is easy to get to and parking was easy Gift shop was very reasonably priced and lots of cute train toys and gifts Ride was fun. Conductor was incredibly nice. We were traveling the C&O and Gap by bicycle and planned on the WMSR to take us to Frostburg. I bought tickets online but there was no obvious notice that the train would not take us to Frostburg. It was not until we were ready to leave that I saw a note taped to a window. Once we were on... More

Rode the rails and stopped before Frostburg because of landslide. We were able to go back to the yard and see the engine they are working to rebuild. Fun day on the train. Sit on the left side as you enter car for the best view.

I visited the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in the fall of 2015 and it was a great experience. The train ride was nice and I got to see a lot of beautiful scenery. The stop over was nice too. I would highly recommend this to anyone who just wants to get away for the day.

Rails closed to Frostburg. They claim a landslide. Train travels very slow in one direction and then goes back the same track through town and out the other side and climbs a mountain. Views are fair due to overgrown vegetation. A stop up the mountain for 30 minutes for pictures. Head conductor was terrific. Helped everyone off and back on... More

We paid $60 a piece and we sat in the lounge car. Chairs were in twos facing each other and comfortable. Inside was very clean but the outside of the cars were that of a train grave yard. 'snacks' were a small plate of cheese, crackers, mustard, salami, and grapes....it was very good. We had to pay cash for all... More
