A perfect campground for RV and tenters alike. Clean, level pads. Camp store with ranger activities. Lake, Ramp, and several docks. Canoe rentals. Sandy beach. Paddle boats. Swimming areas, there’s also a picnic side of the lake and an adjacent amphitheater. Also along the lakeside...More

We stayed at Site 99 on the Dogwood loop. The campground was almost empty so we had a choice. The lakeside sites were taken, which was fine for us. After searching all the loops we came upon campsite 99. We liked the charm it had....More

Rocky Gap camping (6 Replies)
Has anyone camped at Rocky Gap State Park? We're from Ohio and are looking for a road trip and quiet tent camping. Any suggestions?

I've stayed at the resort and we hiked throughout the camping area around the lake. The State Park is wonderful and the camp sites looked very nice. There is an awesome beach, fishing, and grills available. I don't think you would be disappointed. The lovely, hilly scenery and clean lake are also bonuses. It's a bit isolated but there are still places close enough to get supplies/groceries.

Cumberland Fall Wedding (2 Replies)
My fiance and I are getting married at Rocky Gap State Park (the park, not the lodge) in fall 2013. Us and our guests will be staying in Cumberland, and I'm looking for recommendations about a few things: 1) Best place for a rehearsal dinner and why? 2) Good bar/pub for post-reception drinks? 3) Fun things for guests to do before the wedding? *4*) Any experience with caterers, tents, shuttles, florists, DJs, or other wedding-related vendors in the area? (We have a lot of this already,...More

Camping areas (5 Replies)
Which camping area would you recommend within a two hour drive or less from Rockville MD (Cabins are fine too)? We want to escape from the noise and relax a little bit so a place very concurred is out. These 3 parks showed up in the MD Dep of Nat Resources, would you recommend one of them or suggest any other destination?: Elk Neck State Park, Martinak State Park and Rocky Gap State Park. A beach camping would also be great but so far Assateague is the only one I can find and that is...More

Not sure about you, but my camping options shriveled up when MD State Parks banned alcohol form camping areas. That left us with Maple Tree Campground, a privately-owned campground located outside of Burkittsville, MD. I would recommend it, but I still do like the set-ups of MD State Park campgrounds better. If you are looking for swimming, look into Cunningham Falls State Park. There is a lake with beach area, although the campsites are located in a different area of the park. You could...More
