If you want to see what life was like way back when then you will enjoy a trip to Smith Island. Don't expect amusements and lots of excitement, just an unhurried approach to life with proud people who work very hard for what they have. A boat leave daily from Somers Cove in Crisfield, MD and takes about 1hour 15minutres... More

The boat ride over was peaceful and enjoyable. We were able to see different types of birds and enjoy the breeze. Once we got to the island, we ate lunch. The food was only mediocre. Their "shrimp tenders" are just popcorn shrimp. We shared a piece of cake, which we were excited about, and it was not at all what... More

We took a private boat to the Island with friends for lunch. We had lunch at the Bay Side Inn . We all enjoyed our lunch . They have a all you can eat home style meal for $20.99 or you can do sandwiches and great cream of crab soap. Ice cream and snow balls around the back. Saw they... More

2.5 hours on the island is too much. There's literally nothing to do there but eat mediocre lunch and good not excellent smith island cake. You can walk the sites in less than 10 minutes which are uninteresting. There are a few gift shops that sell junk like any other gift shop. We went thinking it would be a picturesque... More

I went with a group of ladies on this 1-hour cruise on the Chesapeake to Smith Island. Going there, I hoped to learn more about the island and its inhabitants. What our group did not realize until later was that the motel where you buy the boat ticket, the boat itself, and the restaurant where you dock on the island... More

This is a must do for everyone. Yes you have to arrive by boat but a day you will always remember. A step back in time a bit with all the modern luxury. Food you will never find anywhere else. People that don't know strangers. Friendly and Fun. Experience this treasure in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay!

If you are looking for peace and quiet, tranquil star-filled nights, and a laid back trip, look no further. A great little museum, friendly folks, and walkable village is a welcome retreat. Don't expect cheap souvenir shops, bikinis, or bars, as you won't find them here. You will see lots of wildlife, taste incredible crab cakes, and taste heaven on... More

My wife and I were invited by friends to take the boat ride over to Smith Island. Realize when you board the boat to make the trip out to Smith Island that you will not be going to a glitzy tourist attraction, that Smith Island still is a working community even today. When one arrives at the island (at Ewell... More

I read pretty decent reviews about going to Smith Island for a day trip so my husband and I decided to go for it. I put in “Smith Island Ferry” into the GPS and it lead us straight there. I thought I had done as much research as I could, but boy was I wrong. We had no trouble finding... More

Traveling by ferry to Smith Island, you are taken back in time. The principal industries--fishing, crabbing and oystering--are plied by inhabitants whose ancestors founded the islands. A great day trip.
