Come here for an oasis in the city; walk the trails, sit on benches and take in the area at its best. You can also visit the gift shop that has a mix of books and goods related to the core mission of the organization, which is the wonder of birds. It is also a lovely place to book a... More

If you are traveling with children or are an avid nature lover, Woodend is well worth a visit. It has acres of trails through a wooded hillside in Chevy Chase. I recently spent several relaxing hours here with my grown sons, daughter in law and small grandchildren. We were all in town for a family wedding and it offered a... More

ANS is a wonderful destination for a nature walk as it includes meadows, wetlands and deciduous forest. There is a well maintained native plant garden near the bookstore entrance. The bookstore has bird feeding supplies as well as binoculars, lenses and all sorts of books and gifts related to natural history. Consider joining the Audobon Naturalist Society as there are... Worthwhile children's and adult programs. Very good selection of bird seed and suet cakes in shop along with other bird items. Also lovely room for wedding receptions.

Love the fact that you can walk the trails here and find quiet in busy Chevy Chase. The paths are best for children 2+ and adults of all abilities. There are all sorts of creatures and birds to notice and wetland areas. Deer at twilight. Gift shop. Special place.

We ended up visiting the nature area on a last minute whim. We wanted an easy and convenient outdoor adventure for our toddler. She really enjoyed the green space filled with ponds, streams, and rain pools. The trails were a little tough with our small, umbrella stroller as they were mostly made up of wood chips. We still were able... More

This multi acre sanctuary adjacent to Rock Creek Park in Chevy Chase has a visitors' center that is an old mansion. Many events are held there from classes to seminars, meetings, camps and can be rented for weddings and the like. Bird watching tours are offered as are summer camps for kids. It serves as the headquarters for the Society.... More

We live close by this all-too-often overlooked scenic spot. In these days when folks are worried about keepinmg their kids under lock and key, this is one area where they can wander about safely. There's a lovely walking trail, a lively pond, and plenty of wildlife. It's a treat in all seasons. Parents should take note of the great schedule... More

This is a serene, if not all that well groomed, area of considerable natural habitat affording an opportunity for all manner of communing with the ecology. There are hardwood groves, streams, ponds, and an amazing variety of ferns, vines, and other woodland flora. Granted, its popularity seems to derive mainly from its suitability as a venue for weddings, reunions, and... More

Our wedding took place on July the 4th weekend which is a very busy time to have a wedding we found out, but Rebecca and others went our of their way to make sure our wedding was extra special. We arrived at 8am before the wedding at 10am and to our delight there were deer on the property, a perfect... More
