About
South Mountain Heritage Society preserves the historic Resurrection Reformed Church, an architectural landmark located in scenic Burkittsville, Maryland. Erected in 1829-1831, the church was the site of a field hospital following the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam in 1862. The museum includes exhibits which tell the unique heritage of Burkittsville, its people, and the surrounding country.

The old white church caught my eye while passing through Burkittsville
Oct 2020
Coming back from Gathland State Park, made a quick stop in Burkittsville and the small village seamed interesting. There is not much in the village, but the old white church which is now the South Mountain Heritage Society museum caught my eye, for it's simplistic design. There is a cemetery behind the old church which sits on a hilltop for nice views of the surrounding landscape. Did not go inside.

Did not go inside, but..

Because we couldn't park the RV at Gathland, we actually turned around here. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and walked through the cemetery. This alone was worth it. These families go back to the mid 1800's. We found it very interesting.
