Nice hiking trail but gets muddy after rains
Nov 2020
We went hiking in Cedarville and it would have been a nice stroll if it hadn’t rained heavily a few days before. We couldn’t complete the the trail as a bridge was out but I would certainly recommend a hike here in dry weather.

Where's the park entrance?!
Sep 2020 • Solo
Wouldn't recommend camping at the Hatchery. Difficult to find park entrance. Little to no information on the website and no one to contact.

Terrible experience

Not a place to come if you are looking for peace and quiet. Arrived at 6pm and there was no ranger on duty/no one answering the phone to open the wood storage so we didn’t have a fire/dinner the first night (Yes, you can collect fallen wood for a fire, but that’s not helpful if it is all damp). This is a little ridiculous considering you can’t check in till 3pm, so a 3 hour window to be able to get there and get wood. The main problem is the campsites are NEXT TO A SHOOTING RANGE. All day you hear gunfire, which our dog absolutely hated. We were also woken up to a wood chipper or a lawnmower at 8am. Not sure what that was about, but as of writing this it is still going on (9am). The only nice thing about this place were the bathrooms, which were very clean. We are leaving a day early because the balcony of my downtown apartment in Washington, D.C. is more peaceful than this campground! All in all we will never be coming back, there are plenty of better campgrounds in Maryland.

clean campsites, easy access to rest rooms/showers

This campground is just an hour from my home, but seems a world away. We've stayed twice in the past six months; park staff were helpful, and other campers were respectful of quiet time.

If one wants to make some brief excursions, there are several local wineries/breweries/distilleries within a 20-minute drive.

Fun local place; easy hikes
Aug 2019
I did the blue trail. Very enjoyable. Likely especially beautiful in the fall, but I enjoyed my cool summer day and was surprised I wasn’t bitten by any bugs given all the water. Have fun!

Great hiking trails!
Apr 2019
I prepared for a hiking trip to Arizona (Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, etc.) by hiking the various trails in this State Forest near my home between January 2019 and May 2019. Most of the trails here are relatively flat, so that didn't help with the elevation in Grand Canyon National Park, but overall I was well-prepared for the almost 70 miles of hiking I did in 8 days!

Not a lot to do there. Most trails were closed & the camp check-in/store's posted hours were...well let's call them approximate. The sites were OK, the restrooms were fine, the location is why you would come here. So close to DC, Alexandira, etc that there would be tons to see & do around the place, but the forest itself was nothing special. The cost compared to hotels was great & pet friendly. Had i not had my dog with me or a larger camper, I probably would have spent some time exploring the surrounding areas.

Weekend camping.
Jun 2019 • Couples
Great place. We spent the weekend in our pop up camper. Sites have nice distance from other campers. Shower house was updated and clean. Trails were really nice, lots of shade to stay cool amd wildlife to observe. We did the blue trail with a walk to the fishing pond to eat packed lunch.

Just thinking

Quiet and serene, a good place to meditate and collect your thoughts. Also, a good place for a picnic and to enjoy family and friends. It is in close proximity to route 5 branch ave and Route 301 near Brandywine Crossing. You should find it very suitable for family entertainment or individual seclusion.

Came to Maryland for a wedding

Stayed here because of location. Camp is small and over grown, but we didn’t do much “camping”. Shower house is nice and clean and they do have water hookups and also a dump station. Had everything we needed.
