Our guys golf weekend concluded with a visit to this gem of a course. We had a fantastic time. The natural beauty and scenery of this golf course are extraordinary. The long cart path bridge leading to the 9th tee is really cool. There are numerous spots on the course with cool views of Ocean City, MD. The course is interesting and plenty challenging. We had a great time.

Took my two teens boys to play Links at Lighthouse Sound and we loved it. I wouldn’t want to play from the tips but the mid tees were just fine. Conditions were very good, staff friendly and respectful of the COVID safety requirements. My younger son broke 100 for first time which is a great milestone. Green fees reasonable for a beach location especially for kids. FYI this might be the least walkable course I’ve ever seen. Will go back.

Played on a Friday 11am tee times. Normal pace of play. Beautiful course but lacking on support staff during the pandemic. By the 7th hole, which is technically their “turn” the snack shop was closed. We had to call the clubhouse for drinks on #15 after only seeing the beb cart on #3. They show up on 16 with a very limited selection and everything is warm. For $180 a round I expect top notch service. This was definitely lacking. Course was full too, not sure why they didn’t put the effort in when they could easily have been busy all day long.

This is a gorgeous course, especially the front 8 holes. But, it is not worth the money and time to play it. I am a local and avid golfer and play many Maryland and Delaware courses, private and public, and this was my worse golf experience in 20 years of golf here. It took 2 hours and 45 minutes to play nine holes. It was more important to get golfers on the course so workers could go home than to attend to the experience of the golfers. I can't recommend this course to others. There are so many other options. This is simply overrated.

I'm very sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. Could you please contact our general manager and pro, Scot Dailey at 410-641-1189, or email me at kim@ruarkgolf.com? We are very surprised to hear about your complaint and want to get some more information. We have not had any pace of play issues all summer and want to get to the bottom of this issue. Please contact us soon and again, we apologize for your negative experience at Lighthouse. Thanks, Kim

My friends and I always make it a point to play Lighthouse whenever we are in OC for our summer vacations, and I won't go back!!!

We were planning on playing Bear Trap Dunes on Monday, Sept. 3rd, but the course closed when a thunderstorm came through.

The VERY FIRST course I thought of playing after we left Bear Trap was Lighthouse. When we arrived at Lighthouse, I heard one of the starters say, "yeah, these two guys are dressed like golfers," meaning my friend and I, and assuming we were going to keep them there longer than they wanted to be when the sun was shining in the later afternoon. The golf shop staff were professional, as always...and VERY courteous! The men and women in your pro-shop have always been the BEST when it comes to customer service!!!

The starters, however, had MAJOR attitude with us showing up at 4pm for playing golf, even after I tipped one guy $5 for doing nothing. I asked if we could please squeeze 12 holes and he didn't respond, just gave me a "look." We were even 26 minutes ahead of schedule according to our cart's GPS after 9 holes.

If your starters don't want to be there when dusk comes at a golf course, find another job!!! I've worked at golf courses and you shouldn't have attitude when you are there late, that's the nature of the business. If the golf course didn't want us out there, and we were such a hassle to everyone, why didn't anyone say anything to us before we started??? We would have putted or just hit the driving range.

When we finished 11 holes because of darkness, we played 18 on the way in. When we drove all the way back and came down 18 and the starter came out and said, "what is wrong with you two, you don't look like guys that would do this??!!" "You kept us here too late," yelling at us at the top of his lungs. I didn't get his name but he was an older guy with glasses and dark hair. He rushed us off the golf course and we just picked up our balls. I told him to "smile, it was a holiday."

On top of all this, the greens were the worst I have ever seen at Lighthouse and don't look like they have been kept up lately.

I think the older guys starting need some lessons in customer service...I've never seen any staff member at Lighthouse have attitude the way they did!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I PLAY THERE!!!

Went to play on Tuesday September 13, 2011 - cost was $129 per person. We called ahead to make sure that the course had not been aerated. We were told on the phone - no we aerate in August and that the course was "pristine, the best condition it has been all year" Well if that is their best it certainly wasn't worth the money; not only that they had just aerated their fairways and the greens were still recovering from it. The greens were so chewed up from spike marks and ball marks not repaired it seemed that they were relying solely on their mention in the TOP 100 Courses you can play article. Well you can play it because it is not nice enough to be private that's for sure. In the Ocean City, MD area there are certainly a lot of golf course options and for a lot less money. I have no problem in spending that much to play a nice golf course. Now on to the pace of play - 5 1/2 hour round to me is unacceptable - we told the ranger twice; it is one thing to back up occasionally on a par 3 or something but we waited on nearly every single shot - the second time the ranger just said "there is nothing i can do" - So if the ranger is helping pace of play, or making sure people fix ball marks - what exactly is he doing? Save the payroll and pass the savings on to the players. The bathrooms on the course were dirty - soda machines full of cobwebs ( probably because they were either broken or disabled because they were unplugged ) - the one guy that used the bathroom came out disgusted and said it would have been more sanitary to just go in the woods. When we said something at the end of the round - it was very obvious that they had heard this before and showed no sympathy - we all agreed we won't go back and would not recommend anyone else play there either.

My buddy and I were scheduled to play Lighthouse Sound during a recent golf trip. On the day of our round Ocean City was clobbered with a massive storm that dumped 9-12" of rain in the area, along with lightning and gale force winds. See attached pix for the radar and gale warnings.

So of course we can't play and if the course is closed we get a refund instead of a rain check. Well, guess what? My buddy calls and Lighthouse Sound says oh no, no refund, we are OPEN!!!! We can play. You can't make this stuff up. Now of course they know we won't play, nor will anyone else. And that means they don't have to do anything but issue rain checks and can reap the revenue. And they get to keep it, too, because I can tell you we will NEVER go back to this course again.

As a side note, the company we booked with [Pam's] made good on our losses, which was very classy of them.

I had really looked forward to playing Lighthouse Sound again after my first visit 5 years ago. But sadly I was stressed out by my unpleasant interactions with the pro and starter at the first tee. It really ruined my day. Their back tees are 7,000 yards and they have a policy that you need permission to play those tees. Ask yourself how many courses you've played where you are not allowed to play the back tees without permission from the pro. I can't name any and I've played at hundreds of courses and have worked in the industry for 20 years. Even Bethpage Black offers a harsh warning, but no permission needed.

My group was well capable of handling the back tees, but we were very thrown off and flustered for the first 9 holes or so thinking about the frustrating experience.

The course itself is cool. I love the seaside design, but in the service industry, service is number one. Baywood Greens was abundantly better from the service perspective, the course was prettier, and the conditions were better.

Lighthouse Sound had poorly cut greens, they never took the time to edge, so you could see straight mow lines across every green. The greens were beat with spike marks and we teed off at 11. I guess their primary concern is packing as many golfers in as possible, which is why they don't let you play the 7,000 yard course without permission. They want to ensure the pace of play is as fast as possible to make sure they can pack it in.

We played the back tees... we waited on every shot. We all broke 80. Even with the excessive stress and racing heart feeling we got from the nonsense on the first tee.

We probably wont be back. Why waste a vacation visit on stress?

Sidenote: It took them a few minutes to get to us at the bag drop as well. We needed to call them over.

Holes 2-7 are on the bay front and picturesque and coming home to the 18th green is a photo must. The staff are very helpful and genuinely friendly and the course was in pretty good condition. I cannot speak to pace of play because most of our round was threatened by T-storms and a lot of players bailed so we had clear sailing the entire way. The only negative issue we encountered was a LOT of bugs and mosquitoes on holes 9 through about 14... bring the bug spray
