A mix of vintage and upscale.
This is one of the nicer beaches in Maine. It's clean and has lots of amenities -- public rest rooms and bathhouse, ample parking, a promenade with benches, a park and gazebo, a playground, etc. There are several shops, restaurants, inns, hotels, Airbnb, etc. in the area. The views are great, and there are many historic homes in the area with beautiful architecture. There's also York's Wild Kingdom just a few yards away and the renowned Goldenrod Kisses restaurant with their famous taffy.

    A beach for all seasons
I've been going to Short Sands for over 50 years. My mom and I used to go in the winter and collect sand dollars. My wife and I went today. Huge waves. Bigger waves from a previous time had deposited a lot of large rocks and sand on the sidewalk and in the parking lot. The beach was covered by water during the time w were there, but we walked the length of the beach and down the road. It was windy, but nice. Scenic views. The parking lot may be small in the summer. Public restrooms. Great for people staying across the street. Located next to downtown, so close to restaurants entertainment, etc. There is a playground adjacent to the parking lot. Ellis Park is right there, too for plying in, or picnicing.

    Busy beach with facilities
I went on a beautiful summer day on a holiday weekend, so it was crowded. Having said that, I enjoyed having bath houses and restrooms, and plenty of nearby food and shopping options. The water isn't very warm in Maine, but the sun shines brightly and Short Sands is a good place to enjoy it. I think it'd be nice for families, with plenty of things nearby for the kiddos.

A nice small beach on the shoreline of Atlantic Ocean within area with lots of attractions. This is a beautiful beach with all the local attractions nearby. This beach is very crowded during the summer, not so much during the Winter or Fall due to the weather. It is worth visiting but like most summer beach place, it is hard to find parking and can get super crowded.

We ran by here during Memorial Day weekend. It seems like a nice spot to watch the waves come in on stormy days (which is was 2 out of 4 days of the holiday) and the crowd seemed fine for families and children. Not sure how the parking situation is, because we rented a place just down the street with a water view, so we just walked there. Free to roam, which I guess is an advantage over other places.

Short Sands is such a neat spot, right in downtown and with good parking nearby. The beach itself is small but you can walk quite a ways out and the water isn't deep. On this beautiful July day the water was tolerable. I don't really like the arcade right there, but there is a timeless feeling to York Short Sands. It is like stepping back in time to my teen years, there has been little change to the beach. Bring drinks and snacks, and don't forget to visit Goldenrod for the salt water taffy.

We love this small beach! Go early to get a spot since high tide makes it tight. Ample parking, walking distance to village treats, and clean public restrooms.

When COVID was not an issue they also have a great playground.

Great beach especially for small children. Nice flat beach so when the tide comes in it is still very safe for children. Rocks along the edge for the littles to look for clams and other sea creatures in the tide pools .Stayed at the Union Bluff House and it is right outside your door.

This is the perfect beach spot for families with young kids. There is a small beach with nice loose sand for the kids to play in. There is also a very nice playground which has been redone in the past few years. It is really quite large. This beach is right in the heart of york village so there is a lot of little shops as well as food nearby. Very convenient with bath houses/restrooms as well as a shower to rinse off at the beach itself. There are a few hotels right nearby that are nice as well. I highly recommend this beach for families.

My family have been spending at least a week or two at York Beach every year for about 20 years. We have never been disapointed even if the weather doesn't cooperate. There are soo many things for all ages to do within walking distance to all the cottages & motels & hotels. We have stayed at the Ocean Bluff (excellent) The Sands (excellent) Rockmont by Rivers by the Sea(excellent and for the past 10 years have been renting cottages by the week to save a few bucks by York Rentals.com. We have been to beaches all over New England and a large part of the world as well but nothing has as much variety to offer than Sort Sands and Long Sands which is right around the corner. Visit the Nubble Lighthouse, Animal Kingdom, Bingo 2 nights a week and all types of snack shops to resturants including the Golden Rod are favorites. Try York Beach Maine. You won't be disappointed!

I absolutely love Shorts Sands beach!! The Arcade, Animal Kingdom, Goldenrod, Bill and Bobs..it has been a tradition in my family for over 30 years. Plenty of metered parking, not like Long Sands where it is damned near impossible to find a space. I really like that it has yet to become yuppieville like Kennebunk or Ogunquit. An old fashioned New England beach in an old fashioned New England town. No Coach store in York Village, and I hope there never will be!!

We live only 40 minutes from Short Sands Beach. For the past few years it has been our favorite beach spot other than Ogunquit ME. The Union Bluff Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. They have live Blues music at the Inn on the Blues, shopping, great food and lots to do for kids. This is the first year that we have been so disappointed with the beach that we may not be going back to the area. Last year the beach was converted over to a non smoking beach which was wonderful. The problem is that there are many rude people that do not feel that rule applies to them. I do not want to smell second hand smoke ever, especially when I am trying to relax on the beach. I am sure that parents of small children would probably leave the beach if they were beside someone smoking. I know that when my Daughter was little I would have been leaving.

The last two visits to the beach with my family were the worst. My Husband was so upset he thought that we were being punked and the show "What Would you Do?" would be showing up soon. People have been so rude and loud at the beach. Not single, young people. People who have small children. They scream and use the most disgusting language over and over with their little children and do not care if they are overheard or force other beach goers to leave the beach because of it. I have never seen anything like it. TRASHY, TRASHY PEOPLE. I feel so sorry for the children growing in families like this. And they are behaving like this on a beautiful beach day. I cannot imagine what they are like on a bad day. The first thing that my Daughter said was I feel so sorry for those kids. Someone nice should take them home. I think that the York Police should be walking the beach (on the sand) to see what is now ruining the business for Short Sands York.

We left the beach that day because of a rude, screaming Wife/Mother who would just not stop. She woke my Husband up. After about 10 minutes of this my Husband even went over to them (they were 10 feet from us) and asked if there was anything wrong or if he could help in any way. Amazingly enough they did not feel that anything was wrong?

We will not be visiting this the beach again.
