I took my two adult children and 3 of my grandchildren ranging in age from 9 to 17. Everyone had a fantastic time. Our guide was extremely competent, personable and focused on making sure we all enjoyed ourselves. They provided a tasty lunch after the trip. There is a separate company that takes great pictures of all the rafts that go by. Be prepared to get very wet and possibly fall in the water. It is an exciting trip. The only negative was an offensive comment made by the guy at the desk before the trip. it was disrespectful of women in general. He thought it was a joke but he's lucky my daughter didn't take him apart for it.

We picked this rafting place because they were discounted on Groupon and had great reviews. All rafting companies in this area offer lunch but we wanted one that ate AFTER the trip not on the banks of the river midway in your trip. After finally finding an open date (thanks, Melinda!) we were booked. When we got there they had announced that they were having a special spaghetti lunch. Many people were very upset about that because that is not the lunch that was promised on the website. I spoke up and complained and she said they would find chicken for us. As it turned out they did offer people barbequed steak and chicken along with the spaghetti. The chicken was great and my husband said his steak was very good. I think they realized they were going to get a number of complaints about the change in menu. Our guide was Bill who was hilarious and holds no thought back- hahaha The group of people in our boat and Bill were a perfect match! We have been rafting in the Smokies with a guide and the Kennebec did not disappoint! After taking a 20 minute bus ride to the drop off point we received instructions, carried our raft down the many stairs and were off! Some of the waves were crazy! At one point Big Mama hit us on the left side and 3 out of 4 people were knocked out. I don't know how, but I was the only one on that side left in the boat! Everyone helped those who fell out and we were off. It was a ton of fun! Afterwards we had lunch and watched pictures from our trip. GREAT day!

I want to start by saying if I could separate my review of the Outpost rental and the rafting section of the company I would rate the rafting trip 5 stars and the Outpost 1 star. If you are considering renting at the Outpost please read my full review but I want to make sure I start by recognizing the positive and the first class staff that is running this business with what appears to be zero support from ownership. Our rafting trip was wonderful our group consisted of 14 people 8 adults and 6 children range of 10 years old to 50ies some with rafting experience most without. We where separated in 2 groups in which the boat I wasn't in said there guide was excellent I regretfully did not get his name. My boat which contained 3- 10 year olds and a almost 13 year old and a couple in which the husband had both of his knees replaced a while back but is in good physical condition, me, and my husband the only experienced rafter in the group had one of the best times of our lives. Tom our guide was a true adventure professional he kept my family safe but also gave us a thrill, his knowledge of the river and the surrounding area was not only impressive but so informative. Tom taught us how to be safer on the river with how to read currents, how to know where obstructions may be hidden, and what to do if you find yourself in trouble truly potentially life saving information. Thank you Tom! Tom also shared some really great local stories don't worry Tom I won't give away all your secrets he is a great guide I highly recommend him. The young women in the store handling day to day operations is truly a customer service entrepreneur mind individual to the owners you are unbelievably lucky to have her and who I believe is the head guide the gentleman with the white beard. These 2 individuals go above and beyond kudos to the 2 of you if I ever open a business in Maine I will be head hunting you, if you haven't already found your truth and, or successfully living out your dreams. Which is what I fully expect to find. For those of you still reading to get to the negative but very important info on the truly disappointing experience my group had with the OUTPOST her you go first of all they advertise that 21 people can stay in the 5 bedrooms if you utilize the pull out sofa for the price of $550 a night this is $110 per a room while this is by no means a fancy hotel room price while reading this think about a comparitive room you have stayed in for close to that price. Our first and with out a doubt largest problem was the quality of the mattresses they where so bad that 2 of the 4 couples split up and didn't sleep together these where the 2 lucky couples when 2 people are in the bed they practically fold into the middle. Those of you that can imagine the old cartoons where the bed eats the person who lays down this is fairly accurate but no where near as funny in real life. Got some insider info from a different local business owner who said he thought the mattresses where most likely the same ones that where there in 1993 (seriously owner's this is unacceptable). Oh and I should also mention the biggest bed in the house was a full size bed. While the lucky couples got to sleep one in a child's bunk bed and the other slept diagonal and across the bed to avoid being eaten the other 2 where stuck sucking it up all members suffered from severe back pain and lack of sleep including most of the children. Thank God for yoga and sheer determination or I'm not sure we would have been able to enjoy our rafting trip. The fact that the other couples had no choice but to suck it up kind of makes you question how they come up with the 21 person potential sleeping possibility since there where only 14 in our party let me run threw the room lay out real quick. 3 rooms have a full size bed and a set of bunk beds, 1 room has 2- full size beds, and the last room has 1 full size bed if you max out the possibility there it's only 18. They say there's a pull out couch but there isn't only 2 broken couches one which also wants to eat you when you sit down the other has a piece of plywood under the cushions for support ( maybe that couch successfully ate someone at some point. If anyone has a open missing person case and the person stayed at the Outpost I would check there.) The love seat was relatively comfortable but still no pull out I actually considered sleeping there but I was a lucky couple and only 5'2" so I could fit in a bunk bed my 6' friends where not so lucky. My guess just so I'm not accused of calling anyone a liar we did find 2 spare bunk mattresses under 2 of the beds and if really brave individuals where willing to sleep on the couches then I guess we got 21. ( Again extremely unacceptable owners). So now I have covered the major issues our minor issues where barley working AC units, zero to no water pressure in the showers, and oh yeah we found a snake in our bedroom the morning we checked out. ( Wow do I really need to let you know but unacceptable owners). So to some up this unbelievably lengthy review for the poor souls still reading US rafting white water adventure trip was awesome staff is amazing and unless you are a true adrenaline junky with a possible death wish stay far away from the cheep potentially dangerous rental called the Outpost. To the owners I was told when I reserved this trip that your true passion was family and that your goal is to bring that family feel to an industry that has commercialized and is more concerned with shoveling as many bodies down a river that they could. All I have to say is you might want to reconsider your definition of family hospitality while I might consider rafting with your company again only because your staff was that great and I would consider them potential family. I will never expose my true family to your neglectful abuse after hours in your Outpost again shame on you get your act together. Sincerely, truly disappointed and even embarrassed for you and by you since I picked you.
