We are staying down in Perkins Cove Ogunquit area, and all the local charters were booked up for days, so we drove 20 min North to Wells. Captain Derek was awesome. My kids (14 & 12) are novices and still had a day they will not soon forget.
We booked a 2 hour “kids intro” charter, and we had so much fun that we wished we had booked more time. We started off with a short boat ride which the kids loved, then trolled for bait fish. The captain was open to our request to see his lobster traps - so we swung by my and pulled up a pot. Learned about lobsters, threw the small ones back and there was one keeper that my kids named “Josh”.
We then moved onto the fishing grounds with what little time we had left, but boy were they biting. The kids soon had 4 hits and hauled 3 aboard. Derek, my father in law and I spent so much time helping the kids land their fish that the adults did not even cast! But so much excitement.
One child caught a striped bass too small to keep, followed by one to big to keep, and had bragging rights to “largest fish” and “most fish”, while my 12 yo caught the keeper and provided us with dinner, aka “most tastiest fish”.
Derek was great and was open to our thoughts on itinerary, swing us by to see the seals basking on the rocks, etc.. posed for pics with the kids, helped them hold the lobster for photos, etc… All in all a great operator and a super fun trip.
One Note: the boat holds up to 6 passengers, but our group of 4 felt about right. If uncles had joined us - it would have been pretty tight.

Signed up for a Four Hour In shore Fishing Trip with Captain Derrick and brought my two grandsons, ages 12 and 13. Despite foggy weather and minimal catches previously in the day, we managed to catch several large striped bass. Derrick was very helpful in locating the best locations for fishing by communicating with other captains. He was also very helpful on board with casting, baiting the line etc… I would definitely recommend Apex Charter not only for families , but also when fishing expertise is expected.
We had a wonderful time and plan to go again next year.

Had a fun trip with Capt Chris this afternoon.... It was a rollercoaster ride out of the harbor through jetty but out on the ocean it was a nice rolling ride. The kiddos really enjoyed that part of it. Fishing was tough between the fog and cloudy water but Capt Chris put us in a position for the two younger granddaughters to land a couple of nice fighters. It's become and annual tradition this time each year with the three girls, Grammy and gramps and their parents looking forward to the two hour kids fishing trip! Soon they will be graduating to the four hour trip !

Captain Derek took us on a four hour inland striper fishing tour and it was an absolute blast! My group had such an amazing time and the ear-to-ear smiles in all of our pictures proves that.
Captain Derek was terrific! Extremely knowledgable and helpful and put up with our shenanigans! The whole experience of being on the water, enjoying a boat ride along the beautiful Maine coastline, catching the bait-fish and feeling the fight of the stripers, it's a one of a kind experience that we recommend to anyone looking for a fun Maine experience.
We cannot wait to book this again and are already looking for our next excursion with Apex!

This is a New England MUST DO!! Captain Dereck gave us the best two hour lobster fishing and sightseeing tour we could have asked for! He's incredibly kind, knowledgeable, PHENOMENAL with kids and letting them get involved on board! You can really tell he loves what he does. We went with a party of 10 and he arranged two boats for us and we came home with lobsters ready to cook! He even held on to the lobsters for us while we finished up the last leg of our vacation until we could come back to pick them up from him. This is an awesome, unique Maine experience that our family will always remember!

Best in the business hands down. This was my wife’s and I second year chasing trophy stripers with A Pex Charters and catch trophies is exactly what we did!
From beginning to end. Fishing with Captain Derek and Captain Chris is like going fishing with a friend from casual chit chat to tips and tricks,talks about Maine and it’s awesome fisheries and outdoor activities. It’s a special thing when you find a guide who does it more for the love of the sport than the money.
I highly recommend anyone who is thinking about it to pull the trigger and and Book a trip with A - pex I guarantee you’ll be planning a second trip before the first ones over!!

We had five people (2 adults, 3 teens) in our party for a 2 hour scenic trip. Weather was nice, boat was clean, and looked well maintained and safe. Our capt (and owner) was easy to talk with and he really wanted to know what we wanted to do and see to make our experience the best it can be. The Capt. was well informed about the local fishing and lobster industry. He pointed out houses along the coast that had an interesting story and brought us to see seals (enemy of the fisherman because they eat a lot of fish). We stayed around the Well and Ogunquit area. Highly recommend and we will use Apex again when we come back to the area.

Another great day on the water with Apex Charter Service ! Our second time with the grandkids on the 2 hour fishing trip. Everyone caught fish and had a blast.
Capt Chris kept us with lines in the water and dealt with a few tangled line quickly and with a smile.

Happy to fish with a knowledgeable captain, great father, husband and quality human. Bluefish in the morning, then checked out some beautiful homes while fishing the coastline. Popped over to show my 3 and 6 year old some seals, and what a maine lobster looks like. Derek knows his regs, biology of the fish, and makes it fun for everyone. We live in the Keys and I grew up in the fishing industry. Long story short I met Derek on his own fishing trip in the Keys. It was nice to go with someone who was not just focused on the fishing, but the overall experience for the whole family. My dad would be proud!

My nephew and I had a great experience. We took the lobstering experience for a two hour tour. The captain was extremely knowledgeable about lobsters, and we were fortunate to have three in the first trap we pulled up. Because we covered most of the details about the subject with one stop, he then took us on an unexpected tour of the area including Ogunquit, Perkins Cove, lighthouses and the general area showing us architecture, trails we should pursue and gave us recommendations that turned out to be great. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Unfortunately, I cannot remember our captain’s name; he is the owner, and I think it was Greg, but not sure.
