Great treat to visit on a lovely Maine Summer Day
Jul 2019
We had this on our list from two years ago and made sure we put it on the 'do not miss, this time' list for another trip down to Corea, Maine. East to find, actually, off Route 1. Very enchanting 'I'm going to do this because I like it!" design because it is their home. So, be respectful to visit within their hours of operation. We like gardening and landscaping so really appreciated all the little details of items added over the years and years of living in the area adding up to the whole of its gardens. The gallery is small but full of their work. I really loved the carved pillars and lintel arch between the main rooms of first floor. Don't forget to get up to the second floor, too, even if it's a steep narrow climb. Enjoyed talking with one of the artists/owners of the husband/wife duo for quite a while about the art and the area and the subjects. I'll bet they alternate who greets the next visitor who rings the bell on the gallery, when both are home. Very different styles from each other. Lots of details by one and lots of color by the other. Their bio sheets speak of these trends, too. We purchased two prints that hit our fancy because of their links to our own history of beachcombing and pets. We'll be back for the actual garden tour when it's not so mosquito-laden or make sure we arm ourselves with mosquito zapping racquets (or I go with folks who are not mosquito magnets!); it's called "Spring Woods" for a very good reason and the mosquitoes are happy there, too.

Storytelling Art & Northern Hospitality
Jun 2019 • Couples
Little did we know it was long after business hours when we followed the signs to Ann & Paul Breeden‘s built-by-hand Springwoods art gallery (and garden) off Rt 1 on the way from Schoodic to Hancock Point. We were sad to have missed some of the galleries back in Winter Harbor, and were delighted to see the county sign pointing just a stones-throw to Springwoods. A cozy little lane led us back to the lovely homestead and shop which we were delighted to see was OPEN. The placard said to ring the bell, so we did. Paul walked kindly from his home to let us peek in his gallery—and only then did we find that they had been closed for over an hour. From the recycled canvas sail over the front door to the hand carved interior doorframe, Paul humbly shared he and his wife’s stunning and whimsical craftsmanship—fine art of every genre! With a natural air of hospitably, he answered our many questions and the lovely story of their shared artistic journey unwound. What a serendipitous way to uncover this true national treasure. So, by all means, go see Paul & Ann—but please note, they’re only open til 5!

You have to search for brochures to find out about this

What Ann & Paul Breeden have done is extraordinary, beautiful, & unusual. This area has been transformed into a unique nature garden, plus their art gallery. What a pleasure as we drove up toward Bar Harbor
.
I am angry at having to check couples when I am traveling with my daughter.

Amazing find!

This little gallery tucked away in the woods in Sullivan, Maine is sure to delight you as it did me and my family! Paul and Ann are two incredibly gifted artists, and kind-hearted people to boot. Paul's paintings are absolutely spell-binding, and Ann's are beautiful works of art. They have items to fit every budget, and quite the selection to choose from. Make sure to plan for a bit of time strolling through their quintessential gardens as well. What a treat!

Charming gallery, beautiful artwork, wonderful owners
Jul 2018 • Family
I had read about this gallery online and while in Maine realized it was very close to where we were staying. After a day trip we went just to see where the gallery was located, as we were pulling up, Paul & Ann were actually leaving, but went back an opened the gallery back up for us! What a cute and charming gallery filled with gorgeous artwork. Our 3 boys were able to explore the outdoors a bit, while we were able to view the art. So nice to chat with Paul and Ann, wonderful people, grateful to have met them in our travels.

Magical place with beautiful art...and lovely proprietors!
Jul 2017 • Solo
We quite by accident took a turn and found this gallery....to our delight! We stayed down the road in Birch Harbor and were out exploring one day and got truly lucky. The beautiful garden next to the gallery caught our eyes first. Filled with beautiful sculptures and a fair house amongst all the beautiful plants...it truly felt like a secret garden. We back around to the Gallery and were greeted by Paul....such a fun and kind soul.

We were delighted when we went inside. The artwork was gorgeous...with such detail. Both Paul and Ann Breeden are truly talented artists. My friend and I purchased some work to remind us of our wonderful vacation in Maine. They truly capture the essence of Maine in their work.

The next year...we rented again..but brought along friends with us to visit the gallery...they enjoyed it as much as we did. Paul chatted with us while we all perused the prints and stunning paintings on the walls. The large one looking through trees down to a lake was my favorite..and a friend surprised me with a gift of the print a week later for my birthday. We all left with a keepsake (or two) and a wonderful memory! Thank you Paul....(sorry we didn't catch Ann)...for affording us such fun and beauty, it is in our memory banks for a very long time!

Artwork to remember our visit to Raven's Nest at Schoodic.
Oct 2017 • Couples
The first thing we saw when entering the Spring Woods Galley was Paul Breeden's painting of Raven's Nest which we had just visited on Scoodic Peninsula. Paul does detailed work, and we liked his Raven's Nest as much as we enjoyed the actual Raven's Nest site. We also learned he had done illustrations for Peter Jenkins' Walk Across America books as well a host of other pubications. His wife, Ann, also paints and the gallery is filled with paintings by both.

Paul told us about Sorrento, a beautiful place just up Hwy 1 from his gallery where he walks with his dog, Zoe. We visited Sorrento and fell in love with the road along the ocean with the Mountains of Acadia in the distance. In fact several days later, we decided to stop by Sorrento near sunset after a day trip and pulled up to see Paul and Zoe enjoying the view. We,along with our dog, enjoyed a few moments viewing the scenery with them.

We later stopped by the gallery and bought a print and several B&W photos of Raven's Nest to remind us our visit there. We enjoyed additional time with Paul and his wife Ann as well as in Willowbrook Garden they have next to their gallery.

We recommend taking the time to visit and enjoy the gallery and garden as well as Paul and Ann. Living in the area for many years, they are a wealth of knowledge for visitors like us. Also ask Paul about the "Acadia Mountain Dog" pedigree of Zoe!

Thanks for your terrific review! We sure enjoyed spending time with you both. And then to meet by chance along the shore in Sorrento with our dog, wow, what fun. Love that photo of Ann and Zoe and I, thanks for sharing it. Hope to see you again!

Our home is filled with artwork from this beautiful gallery! We are especially fond of Paul's series of Maine wildflowers. Everything about this gallery is top-notch - the ambience, the garden, the smiling welcome from Paul and Ann, and the customer service. If you are in the area, don't miss it!!
