great hike
Sep 2021
A relatively easy hike - a steep-ish climb, but short.  Three ladders to climb, but nothing scary or difficult at all.  The short loop at the top gives amazing views.  We took the Canada trail back to the parking lot, for 2.2 miles round trip, about 1.5 hours.  Not many people over here.  This was the easiest of the non-flat hikes we did, but rewarding.

gorgeous views!

This is a great little trail. We took Beech Cliffs Trail there (it's strenuous with ladders and ledges), then took Canada Cliffs Trail back to Echo Lake Beach parking lot. All together, one of my most favorite hiking experiences ever.

Beech Cliff trail
Jul 2021
We were looking for a short early evening trail & this was a winner! The ladders add an extra element of excitement & the views are great. I thought I'd be more anxious on the ladders, but it wasn't so bad! Definately no dogs on this hike. The Beach Moutain hike however, was very nice with our dog. Great hikes on the quiet side of MDI away from the crowds. Very well marked & easy to navigate.

A favorite hike in the western mountains of Acadia
May 2021
Less crowded in summer than the classic hikes like Cadillac. Fun trail up Beech Cliffs (with ladders) and views of Echo Lake. Summit features MDI's sole remaining fire tower and views of Southwest Harbor.

Awesome park views
Jun 2021
Fun trail...with ladders and great views. Maybe need to invest 90-120 minutes to hit the top and return back to the parking lot.

Breathtaking views of Echo Lake
May 2021 • Couples
Please pay attention to the review named “Beware of the hiking trail names”!!! We almost made a mistake veering off to the that long and challenging trail with iron ladders mentioned by the reviewer.

Despite a little rain on Acadia Mountain, we never wavered from our intention to go on the second hike of the day. The sun was shining again, so why not? Beech Cliffs Loop is very close to Acadia Mountain, so we arrived to the parking lot in 10 minutes and started this short and easy. It is only 0.3 miles long, but what a view! The first striking impression was the deepest sapphire color of tranquil Echo Lake surrounded by lush greenery of the mountains. Interesting how different the color of the lake was in spring... We had done this hike in the fall when the dark color of the water created dramatic contrast with golden mountains in the peak of foliage. Magical beauty...

Then we descended to the intersection with Canada Cliffs Trail, continued to walk, but after half a mile decided to return because the trail was running down to the Echo Lake and it means that we would need to go all the way up again, but we had no time left for this. No big deal - we hiked back admiring the views of the lake along the way.

We returned to the car around 3:30pm and started driving home.

One of the best hikes @ Arcadia
Aug 2020
Absolutely one of the best hikes in the park! Remember to look for the iron ladder on the way up and to rest at the beach on the lake on your way down ;)

Be careful of trail names!
Oct 2019
Be careful. The reviews here are mixing up the Beech Cliff Loop (the correct trail for this section) with the Beech Cliff Trail (a VERY different trail, with iron rungs and ladders ascending the cliffs).

The Beech Cliff Trail is a short loop, only about .4 mile, that allows you to explore the ledges at the top rim of the cliffs AFTER YOU ARE UP AT THE TOP OF THE CLIFFS. To get to the top, use the really steep Beech Cliff trail from the Echo Lake parking lot (if you are in good shape and not afraid of heights) or simply drive to the end of the Beech Mountain Road, park in the National Park parking lot, and take the easy, short and not very steep trail to the cliff edge. At the trail junction, turn left to make the loop along the top of the cliff.

The views from the loop trail are SUPER, either way you get there.

Fantastic views from this trail. Some steep climbing but well worth it. Trail is well marked and moderate hiking.

This hike was fairly easy and wasn't too long but it was such a great view! I am very happy we went.
